“Avoid!!!”

Severe allergic reaction on areas of skin I used this product on. DO NOT USE this product!!! I have tried using antihistamine to get rid of itching and discomfort but it’s resistant to that. Early in my holiday and have no idea how long it will last

“A wonderful product.”

★★★★☆

This is amazing. Highly recommend. Put on before you go to the beach or pool to get the best coverage. The only block I’ll buy. Good price. Arrived quickly. The only sunblock that works on my pale skin. This is a great moisturizer, provides great protection, smells nice, and is not greasy. I use it on my face every day to both moisturize and protect. It does not make me break out or have shiny, oily skin. It is a wonderful product.

“dont buy this product, it will ruin your holiday”

After 3 days of use I am now covered in an itchy rash. The rash is developing into pustules/blisters and is extremely uncomfortable. Avoid Piz Buin like the plague, it's awful and will ruin your holiday. I will be complaining to J&J when I get home....

Used this for four days, now have a rash everywhere it's been applied. Nothing is helping. Will never use again. Face is swelled up and it's extremely itchy.

Nightmare suncream Avoid! I used this and have been covered in the most painful itchy rash for a week now. Nothing eases it, I have missed work and I am struggling with the rain. It's like prickly heat only 100 times worse. Please share this on social media so that no one puts it on their children. Johnson and Johnson should be deeply ashamed not hiding behind excuses!

“Never again!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by RowanJoyce on 05/08/2014

I got to 40 years without ever suffering an allergic reaction to anything, until last week when, unusually for Blighty, it was too sunny to go outdoors unprotected. I slathered on the Piz Buin and went about my gardening. I didn't burn, so I suppose that's a plus, but I've had a severe itchy rash (contact dermatitis?) for days. Interesting that the manufacturer says that this only happens to 0.01% of people using their product. I think they ought to have a glance at review sites such as this, and think again about their figures.

Piz Buin products are my favourite. They go on easily and give the necessary protection. used to use their shower gel years ago as well after sunbathing and it was brilliant.

“Excellent product!”

★★★★★

Myself and my family have been using this product for years and found it to be the best one ever. It isn't sticky or greasy and works really well. My youngest daughter would re-act quite badly to some things but has never had an issue with this product. I think you just have to go by trial and error. Certain products work for some people & don't for others but that's true of all things. Just because you reacted badly to it doesn't make it a bad product overall just not the right one for you. In my opinion the best sun cream I have ever used & will continue to use.

“Ruined my skin”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 21/01/2014

I used this product in Italy after being there the previous week using a different product. After applying the skin on my neck/ chest felt irritated but I thought it was the sun so applied some more protection. My skin continued to worsen that day so kept the area covered only to find that my skin absolutely erupted in to red risen blister type sores !!! The redness worsened even though I stayed out of the sun - the irritation was unbearable. After about three months it was a lot better; but even now, after nearly 3 years it takes very little for the area to become irritated - I can definitely not apply perfume to the area. If only I had known the consequences of using this product. Have even tried the allergy cream but this produced a similar burning sensation. Do not risk ruining your holiday or your skin with these products.

“makes sun bathing easy to do”

written by Raty on 12/09/2013

Have no problems. One application and set for the day. Goes on easy with no allergic reaction for me or my wife. Just wish they did more that factor than 15 or 30. A 10 or 7 would be good. Used in France, Itally, Maldives, US great.

“Allergy nightmare from a product I used to love!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 12/08/2013

Please beware! Patch tests may not help you tell if you're allergic to this for several days! I bought this because I'd used Piz Buin One Day Long lotion a few years ago, and found it great - really durable and excellent sun protection. However, it seems they've since changed the formulation, advertising its helioplex technology. I used this new one on a short trip to Portugal last week. Now I'm lying awake from a lumpy rash over most of my body - apart from my tummy, lower back and face, which were the only places I didn't use this cream. It's so bad I can't sleep, and is worsening so much I'm going to the doctor tomorrow. The rash first appeared on my chest and neck four days into my holiday, and I thought it was heat rash. But I returned to the UK (much cooler) the next day and it got worse, spreading elsewhere on my body, so I realised it was more likely an allergy. I Googled the sun cream when I noticed I'd only developed the rash where I'd applied it (thank goodness I used their facial sunscreen on my face, which I seem to be fine with) - really wish I'd done so before I bought and used it, but as I'd used it a while ago I thought it would be the same as before. I do have sensitive skin to like to still to known and trusted products. My Mum seems ok after using it, apart from getting acne on her face where she did use the cream, so obviously not everyone using it will react like me. But I'd advise you not to risk this cream unless you've used the exact formulation before, over several days, with no reaction to it. I'm definitely going to write to Johnson & Johnson to complain, because I'm not sure enough people will realise it's this cream they've reacted to if, like me, the reaction took several days to develop. This is the worst reaction I've suffered to anything and will be binning this cream. Just hope this unsightly and painful rash nightmare will clear up soon!

I too have had the same reaction to Piz Buin 1 day long. Having previously used it and had no problems. My fore arms so itchy, red and blotchy. I had to resort to antihistimines to get a good nights sleep. Only discovered it was this product when I ran out on holiday in Portugal and could not get it and bought another product. Within a day the itch subsided and I could even stop the antihistimines. After 3 weeks of this the skin on my arms is only just getting back to some kind of normal in apperance

“Brilliant Colour”

★★★★★

written by on 06/08/2013

I was given a tube of this suncream a few years ago and tried it and thought it was great. Since then I only use this cream when going on holiday. Myself, my husband and our 3 kids (ages 9,8,3) all use this suncream and thinkg it is brilliant. The kids have beautiful golden/olive tans and none of us have ever had sunburn whilst using this cream. We start with factor 30 and gradually reduce to Factor 10. As my kids are in an out of the water a lot , I do reapply later in the afternoon, I don't know if this is necessary or not but I would rather be safe than sorry. We also all use the Factor 30 and Factor 15 face creams you can get. None of us have ever suffered from any allergic reaction to the cream. Like all chemically made products some people will suffer from reactions which is why most creams and colourants advise to do a sky patch test rather than apply all over the body.

“****AVOID THIS PRODUCT****”

written by BendyYendy on 29/07/2013

If you are in the market for suntan cream I would definitely not recommend this product. After using it only once I have been left looking like the monster from the blue lagoon. It has made my face and eyes swell (I look as if I have been in a boxing match) and I have come out in what looks and feels like hives in any place it was applied. It's three days since I had my first reaction to this cream and my face and eyes are still the same. PLEASE PLEASE AVOID THIS PRODUCT.

“Severe Allergic Reaction when you use this”

written by on 26/07/2013

I recommend that urgent action to be taken to identify and have all this Brand of Piz Buin re-assessed because it causes skin damage.I put on the Johnstone & Johnstone Piz Buin 1 Day Long Sun Cream on Friday 19th July 2013 on my Face,Arms & Neck. The next day I woke up to discover that I had a serious rash with tiny red lumps on my arms & neck,my Face was badly swollen up. Went to my local A&E & explained what was wrong. They informed me that The Watchdog TV Programme had a lot of people complaining about the Severe Allergic Reaction when using this Sun Cream. Was prescribed Hayleve for it & was told if still having bother to go back to see my own GP which I will doing.

“"Used Piz Buin 1 day has made very ill"”

written by on 23/07/2013

i used the above product for the first time last Wednesday 10/07/2013. It was applied to my arms and legs only once and two days later an itchy rash appeared. Since then the condition has got steadily worse resulting in me visiting my GP this morning who has prescribed me Fexofenadine 180mg tablets, Eumovate Cream And Dermacool Cream. Due to the severity of the rash the Doctor told me to make another appointment for next Friday(19th) to see how I am, and if necessary I would be prescribed Steroids. This I did and was prescribed I am very upset that Jonson & Johnson are supplying a product like this for sale, which can cause the purchaser so much suffering from a very uncomfortable condition. The rash etc is still on going.

“Causes horrendous allergic reactions”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 23/07/2013

I have suffered with a terrible itchy rash for three days on my scalp, arms and legs after using this product. I have never suffered from skin allergies previously. This is a known problem with this particular product, yet it continues to be sold. When I visited my GP today, they told me that I was the latest in a long line of patients who had visited in the past fortnight following extreme allergic reactions to the same product. Avoid it like the plague, or you will end up looking and feeling like you've GOT the plague.

After reading all the reviews i was concerned myself as had bought the lotion for my holidays. Just returned a few days ago. So thought would do a few patch tests on face and body. No reaction. Used the all day long spf 15. I used this product throughout scorching temperatures and this cream has been the best i have used to date. I didn't burn and have an amazing tan. I don't tan that well but i did this time. Really happy with product. A patch test first to be sure. I also purchased the pizza buin after Sun tan intensifying lotion. I haven't peeled yet and this too is an excellent Cream. My skin is quite dry normally. Don't be put off by bad reviews. We all have different skin. Not water resistant. But i didn't burn mind as always re applied anyway when been in pool.

“Do not buy! Allergic hell!!”

I used this suncream for a week. My arms, legs and ears are now covered in a red itchy rash. I have been suffering for 2 days now and just want the pain to end. I only just figured out what was wrong with me today. When I googled this product I realised it is a common problem and has been on watchdog. This stuff should be banned immediately!

Having used this product for years, I have recently become allergic to it ?I suggest while it is still a great product that you test a patch of skin first, my rash is restricted to the inside of my arm crease but having read up on this people are suffering far worse than me, just take care especially on children.

funny how different creams affect people. I used to think it was a ridiculous amount to pay for sun cream but its worth every penny. I'm very white and burn within a few mins in the sun. The only time I burn using this is if I miss a bit. really enjoy my holidays now as just one application and lasts all day,you do have to use a reasonable amount ,one tube will last a week on holiday abroad.

as long as you can get a high enough factor , then would have thought that it would be ok. I would use factor 50 on a child. Also test an area of his skin before you apply all over to make sure there is no reaction from any of the ingredients. If he is going to be in the water a lot then you may need to apply it more than once. Also needs to wear a hat. My grandchildren wear the swimsuits that block out the uv rays, personally I would use these on a baby.

Last year the product was on watchdog and this morning after some people had horrific reactions. I would check if the product still has the ingredient that 1 in 10 people are allergic too. I would look for something that does not have these it in. 3 of us on holiday were badly affected by this product not worth the risk and Johnson and Johnson really did not think there was an issue. Last week, the sun cream featured on the BBC's Watchdog show after producers were inundated with health complaints about it. Leading dermatologist Dr Ian White, of St John's Institute of Dermatology in London, said two of the cream's ingredients could be the reason for the severe reactions he had seen. He said his organisation had demanded urgent action into the safety of one of the chemicals used in Piz Buin, C30-38 Olefin/Isopropyl Maleate MA Copolymer, two years ago. He also claimed that one in 10 of the patients he now sees were allergic to another active ingredient in the cream - Methylisothiazolinone.
