"Sorry, we are unable to quote new business for this vehicle Unfortunately, we are unable to insure Self Build / Conversion Motorhomes Unfortunately, we are unable to offer cover unless your Motorhome is garaged overnight when not in use Unfortunately, we are unable to offer cover unless your Motorhome is garaged overnight when not in use We are unable to offer cover for vehicles kept on the road"

Yes, you are correct we do not insure self-build campers and we’re unable to offer for some motorhomes that are kept on the road. We do try to make this clear across our website and usually try to help those self-build owners who call us to find a suitable provider. Good luck insuring your camper.

“Change of number charge.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 21/05/2022

Just spent six minutes on the phone with caravan guard ( would have been three minutes but I had to get my credit card ) wanted to change my reg number to a private plate, this cost me £50, this on the day I renewed. £50 to input a number, I hope the guy on the phone is paid at that rate? that would be £500 an hour.I know the charges are laid out in the documents, but on the day of renewal.

Caravanguard's Comment

Written on: 24/05/2022

We'd like to look into why you have been charged this amount if you could contact us urgently please?
A private registration plate change would not normally lead to a premium increase and the fee for an adjustment like this would normally cost no more than £15. There might be another reason for the premium increase at your renewal which we can explain once we know your policy details.
Thanks Liz @ Caravan Guard

We found the staff very helpful when renewing policy. Gave good advice on how to ensure policy covered our needs. Good price for the policy so we were very pleased with the overall experience.

It was so straight forward, the member of staff was knowledgeable, knew exactly what we needed and covered all aspects with minimum of imput from ourselves. The policy covers everything we need and is excellent value for money.

“Beware of this company”

★☆☆☆☆

written by markoldroyd on 09/09/2020

Beware of this company. I bought a new motorhome and they gave me the best quote. I took out insurance from them and as requested sent them proof of my NCD. They emailed back saying the NCD proof was good and no further action was required. A month later I got an email from them saying the NCD proof was not acceptable and they wanted another £530 ! I immediately cancelled the policy and moved to another insurer and the NCD proof was no issue.

Caravanguard's Response to markoldroyd's Review

Written on: 10/09/2020

Hi,
Apologies it has taken us so long to respond in full. Originally we were unable to locate your record from the details provided. We’re sorry you’re not happy with our service. As explained in our recent correspondence we cannot find an email accepting your proof of NCD however we’re sorry if you were given the impression that your NCD had been accepted in any way. The proof of NCD we have received did not match up with the details entered for the initial quote and therefore we were unable to accept this. Without this we provided another quote, which was higher. We understand that this has meant you’ve cancelled the policy and insured your motorhome with another provider and we’re sorry to see you go elsewhere. If you continue to be unhappy I believe our adviser has given you details of our full complaints procedure.

Well yes other than the 14 emails we have exchanged over the past couple of days it must have been hard to identify me. I can only assume I was lost amongst all the others making the same complaint. Since you “lost” the email you sent confirming my NCD valid this is not a surprise. The reason given for rejecting my NCD proof was that it came from a multi car policy. Each car has its own NCD ! Every single other insurer I talked to knew this and accepted my NCD.

“Cancel insurance”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 304Pollard on 25/08/2020

No empathy for person having bleed on brain and having to cancel policy as caravan had to be sold. Just pay up and take heed of final nasty letter without the benefit of having a final bill. Will not use again or recommend - lousy company.

We would usually waive the cancellation fee when a customer is cancelling due to ill health. We're unable to locate you on our systems from the limited details provided. Please could you email your surname and postcode to us via our website address and mark for the attention of marketing. We'll be more than happy to take a look into this for you.
Kind regards

“Not happy”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Levesque23 on 01/07/2020

Disgusted to find that when cancelling my policy one month into renewal after being a loyal customer for several years I get charged a £30 admin fee and a further £7.50 for no obvious reason which was about half the annual premium. No complaints with the cover, but never made a claim.

Caravanguard's Comment

Written on: 13/07/2020

Sorry you've rated us one star. As the insurance policy is a 12 month contract most insurance companies do charge to cancel a policy before its expiry date, and this is clearly explained when you take out the policy and is set out in our terms and conditions.
We do regularly monitor our fees charge to make sure they're amongst the lowest in the insurance industry. Without knowing your full policy details we cannot comment on the £7.50 charge, so if you please email your postcode and surname to us we can look into this for you. It could possibly be for any legal expenses cover taken, as these are non-refundable.

“poor online quote design”

written by umWiley343 on 23/02/2020

Enter every single detail over 4 pages - then be told your vehicle is too old for them to insure. Please - don't just harvest personal data, simply qualify the vehicle first.

We’re sorry but our website isn’t able to confirm all the necessary requirements until we have taken all the details needed to provide a quote.
It is something we are looking into as we’re aware it can be frustrating for our customers and hope to change this in the future.
Please note your data will not be used for marketing unless you have opted in and it will never be shared with third parties.

“Motorhome breakdown on busy A51 road.”

★★★★★

written by on 11/05/2019

On 2nd May, 2019 experienced a call out for the first time in over 50 years driving (drive-shaft exploded) From the time of the emergency, the Caravan Guard operator provided reassurance that was 5* platinum. Moreover, from the estimated time for the recovery vehicle to arrive (5*) to the attitude of the driver, particularly my safety (also 5*). The delivery link to a garage in Uttoxeter was a 5* definition of teamwork to a customer in need. Well done!

“Hidden Cancellation Fees to Pay”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Jonesie71 on 19/02/2019

I have been insured with Caravan Guard for over 5 years, never had a claim, all up to date and only have 2 months left on the policy which is only £20 per month. I sold my van and am not getting another so no need for insurance. When I tried to cancel I was told that there is a £30 cancellation fee to pay, even though I only have a couple of month left on the policy I know it is in line with the FCA guidelines and I know in their mind it is perfectly acceptable, I don't and neither do many others I would suggest anyone who is thinking of using Caravan Guard thinks hard about these little extras that you have to pay and look closely at the small print when you select insurance, I wish I had. You don't think you will sell your van half way through insurance and not get another one so I don't see how this kind of charge is fair.

Caravanguard's Response to Jonesie71's Review

Written on: 25/02/2019

Sorry you don't think our cancellation charges are fair but insurance policies are 12 month contracts and our fees are clearly explained on the phone when taking out the policy and highlighted in our terms and conditions.
Most insurance companies charge fees for the administration costs involved in cancelling the policy. We have always tried to keep these as low as possible in comparison to the rest of the market.

A £30 fine for not having an insurable asset is not a fair amount. Nor is the snotty follow up email saying pay up in 7 days or we will fine you again, £10 per 21 days. As I had already paid my premium for February I don't see how you can demand more money from me within 7 days.

Your responses lack any depth or warmth, perhaps the person who does them should take a bit of training.

“Friendly staff and great service”

★★★★★

written by brendandykes on 21/12/2018

I've just renewed my motorhome insurance with Caravanguard. What they offer for me is good value for money, but on top of that the friendliness of everyone I ever speak to is refreshing and the attention to delivering great service is second to none. I don't often write glowing reviews, I work in the customer service industry and perhaps I have too higher expectations but Caravanguard always reminds me that delivering prompt, friendly, efficient and effective service is possible from a call centre. This year I checked the market ratesfor insurance and for other policies, I have switched, but for our motorhome we've renewed with Caravanguard for the 2nd year in a row.

“Great service yet again”

★★★★★

written by on 13/10/2018

Well, caravan insurance time again. I hunted around as usual but couldn't find any equivalent cover for the same price. It would have to be a big reduction in price to entice me away as I've found their service to be excellent. I've been with them for several years already so I'm staying with them for another year. Called the office to renew and was greeted with the usual cheerful, helpful lady. She ensured all my requirements were met and that I was happy with my level of cover. No pressure sales of 'add-ons', just a really friendly conversation. I wish all insurance companies were like that ! Here's to more tours with Caravan Guard.

“Fabulous Service.”

★★★★★

written by NickyWales on 19/09/2018

Really good service from this friendly and professional team who handled my motorhome insurance efficiently. The website was so easy to navigate too and a query I needed to ask about was dealt with very efficiently by the staff members. Also I have to say a very competitive quote for the insurance which I was delighted to accept. Having shopped around for value this company was exceptional. So I'll sum up by saying I'd 100% recommend Caravan Guard to friends and family!

“Impressed”

★★★★☆

written by PalomaBall on 11/09/2018

Having just done a few quotes for my MH, one thing that stood out for me is I have insured my MH with a CC club recommended insurer as you get a discount. I renewed with Caravan Guard and got 270 days European cover and breakdown, for less than last years figure, where they only cover for 90 breakdown cover only. I am impressed with CG. Although I was taken back about paying the policy in full there and then to get the quoted price as my start date was 3 weeks away. Therefore they have had interest on my money for 3 weeks?? I have also cancelled my membership of the club and saved even more money

“1st time caravanguard policy holder”

The phone chat for my quote showed a far more switched-on vehicle company. The questions were more relevant. My quote was far cheaper than others with no less cover. I would recommend Caravanguard to anyone I liked.

“My Experience With Caravan Guard”

★★★★★

written by Martyn65 on 28/08/2018

The overall look of the webpage sets your mind at ease from the start. The application for a quote is so simple, just enter your details and away you go. Once you have got your quote there are different add on's to enhance your policy. The payment system is also very customer friendly there are 2 options of payment, a one off payment or spread the cost over 12 months. So easy to make the policy yours. Without a doubt I would definitely recommend Caravan Guard to all of my Caravan friends.

“Caravan caught fire and caravan guard took care of it...”

★★★★★

written by SkylaMcCain on 21/08/2018

After a home fire in our out building caused our caravan to melt we contacted our insurance provider on the caravan policy and from start to end four weeks. Amazing just totally took care of the whole process and on a new for old policy provided a new caravan. I would recommend having a Hd cctv watching your van as this was our case and made the whole situation straight forward. So pleased I returned for insurance on the new caravan. Great job guys.

“Avoid! hidden charges ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by SPC007 on 04/08/2018

Beaware of using this company! I have had insurance policies for around 25 years and never had to pay a ‘admin cancellation fee’ we sold our caravan as never used it, I had no claims and paid monthly as per policy. When it came to cancelling the policy as the caravan was sold they told me I would have to pay a minimum of 2 months insurance up front to cover the admin fee??!! steer clear of this company as details from other forums suggest they are just a middle man up selling AXA insurance policies.

Most insurance companies? if you can name these other companies I would be very surprised! I called 3 and they don’t charge cancellation fees unless a claim is in process. I hope others looking at these reviews look elsewhere for insurance to avoid getting fleeced when they want to cancel. Not a good company so avoid!!

We made a claim quite soon after taking out the policy, when we had not had our van for very long. It was quite large - the side was ripped, including the sliding door and the toilet cassette door.We found Caravan guard very helpful and good to deal with, and the claim was paid promptly with no quibble.
