Fantastic breadmaker, can bake rapid loaves, fantastic gluten-free bread or even just make dough for pizzas or sweetbreads. Has a special dispenser which you can put fruit or seeds in to add it to br. Everything is lovely and fresh and not dry at all, bread freezes well.

“Best One”

★★★★☆

written by VinitPatel on 19/09/2020

Best-One. managing to achieve a level of rising and fluffiness far in excess of other machines or hand-made bread. It appears that spares are easily available, an important consideration given that my previous machine, a Breville, found it's way into a skip due to the non-availability of replacement buckets and the manufacturer's non-existent customer service. But best of all, the Panasonic is almost silent in operation.

Already using different Panasonic appliances. This one didn't disappoint me either. It has sixteen different modes with three different loaf sizes and crust settings.

“Yummy yummy Bread, do not buy any other bread now.”

written by Seaside46 on 04/10/2018

Bought this machine about 9 months ago very easy to use. quiet, tried fruit bread also good & Pizza dough. Most People put machine away in a Cubboard, after use, then do not use it often enough. But I keep mine in a corner. On my worktop, and use it every other day. Bread does keep fresh for 2 Days, if not eaten before! Did have one 10 years ago, but nothing like my Panasonic

“Fantastic Bread Maker Couldn't Do Without”

★★★★★

written by KathrynMunn111 on 06/08/2015

I've owned 3 Panasonic breadmakers now and I can say without doubt that they are the best there is. Lots of my friends have similar offerings from other companies and I can truly say that Panasonic have got it right. This unit currently sits on my kitchen side and happily churns out 2-3 loaves per week. The kids love the cake options and the timing functions are fantastic. At first, the interface is a little tricky to get your head round however once you've sussed it using the machine slots nicely into your day. Me and my family can't even fathom why we'd buy loaves from the shops now, well done Panasonic!

“not flexible, no menu on the machine. ”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 07/12/2012

I bought this machine mainly for mix and raise dough. I was expecting to be able to control the functions like you could do to a washing machine. eg, sometimes i would like the machine just do mixing or mixing a bit longer but i can't do it. i like use the machine to do a quick dough, but i can't. you have to wait for the rest time. On the machine, the only thing you can see is numbers and you need to have the instruction book with you all the time. With out the instruction book you would lost. Only thing i can say is that its a really dumb machine. If i knew it's like this, i wouldn't have bought it.

“9 years good service”

★★★★★

written by Burdieuk on 17/03/2012

After 9 years making 2 loafs a week we are going to buy new, after a couple of bearing hub replacements because we had worn them out we have decided that perhaps a new pan and bearing would be better spent on a new machine. This is an absolutely fabulous machine, this is our second, we would not be without one. BUT you MUST weigh out the ingredients accurately or it will give you a bad loaf.

“Should have gone for the Kenwood”

★★☆☆☆

written by green glass goblin on 04/10/2011

Bought this over 12 months ago to updat my old Russell Hobbs that had seen 5 years hard labour. I nearly bought the Kenwood - much the same price. After only 12 months and not hard work as for 2 of those months my kitchen was being revamped and the machine was not used. Now the paddle is only turning intermittantly and not making the bread poperly. I will be getting a kenwood to replace. this is the 3rd machine I have had. 1st one was the basic Morphy richards 12 years ago. great little machine and still going well for my daughter. 2nd was the Rusell hobbs pro - top of its range wore out after 5 years - this one - b*ggered up in 12 months and has not done the work either of the other two did. Would not touch this one again -

No problems at all, every loaf a winner. (Unless I forget to put the yeast in then it makes lovely cricket balls. This has only happened once)
The quantities are very important so the recipes must be followed to the letter for success, doing this always results in a good loaf.

written by on 24/08/2010

My second Panasonic breadmaker. Wore the first out after 7 years and thousands of loaves. This one is almost as good to use and I think its direct drive so very heavy wholemeal doesnt damage the drive belt like in the old one.
Make all kinds of bread (heavy and light), dough, cakes.
Sometimes forget to do something and get a mess but it's always my mistake for not following the instructions or leaving out an ingredient (or the paddle!).
I think the bread recipes need a bit more water about 20mls extra (oddly the old recipe book says more water but they reduced it for this model).
Save yourself lots of money, get nice bread and wake up to nice smells.

“PANASONIC 255 Bread Maker ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 3170 on 22/08/2010

PANASONIC 255 Bread Maker
I started bread making with a cheap brand to see if I liked and got on with it. It was great, so I moved up the ladder a bit & got a Morphy Richards item. This didn't last long so I bought the best thing that I couldn't really afford - the Panasonic 255. I was thrilled with this so called high end appliance & started baking.
The first few loaves were o.k, but then I noticed that after 4 hours, the machine hadn't started its program. I switched it off & left it long enough to clear its memory & tried again. This time it worked properly.
After a few weeks, I now saw that although the program had started, it hadn't mixed the ingredients. At the end of the program time, the machine had baked the contents, not knowing that they weren't blended, so I ended up with a 2 inch slab of uncooked snotty dough, with a baked crust on the top.
The following time it was alright again. A few weeks later it failed to start & a couple of times it didn't blend the ingredients.
I wrote to Panasonic (who's customer care used to be so good) and they said "we have no idea what's happening. If you really must, you can send it to us, & we'll have a look". I asked how long it would be away for, as I'm disabled and only eat my own home made bread (I won't go into details here). The women said "it might be away for two months". At the time, I was so worried, that I decided that a/ I couldn't afford to send it around the Country and b/ that I couldn't be without my own bread for that long, so decided to keep it. It has now not mixed the ingredients a number of times.
On top of that, there are brown burn/scorch marks around the lid & opening & a grill where the heat escapes from the body. In my opinion, these things are designed & built to bake bread. This uses HIGH temperatures. Shouldn't they be designed NOT TO BURN ?
I now thought that their comment about being away for two months was a bit of blackmail to stop me sending it in.
It got to the point where I could no longer rely of this piece of garbage and I had to get another brand.
My advice: If you want a machine that will last a while and be reliable - look for a different brand.
I will never buy Panasonic again.

written by on 27/07/2010

I bought my Parasonic 255 in March of last year 2009, however the nut dispenser has just stopped functioning, a small plastic bar has snapped off (due to excessive heat, I presume). God knows why in wasn't metal in the first place. I won't be buying the Parasonic 255 again, I'll go for another brand which offers the the same functions

written by john raf on 10/07/2010

I bought one of these in 2006/7. In 2008 it started to make bread that had not risen.

It took months of communications to get a replacement from Panasonic.

It was repaired but was still with fault. I noticed at the time a number of complaints that these machines often went faulty after just over a year.

Mine was 14 months old.

Panasonic would not accept it was faulty so I returned it and it was damaged in the post, 2 months later they replaced it with the latest model, SD 255.

Now in 2010 July 1st approx this new one went faulty, same fault,, bread wont rise, no its not the yeast, nor the mix,, I have been using one of these for years, I know all the possibilities.

Good when it works,, no doubt,,, but if it goes wrong oh dear,, Panasonic don't have a good reputation for customer service, unless they have changed in the last 2 years and that's not just my experience. Will I get another,, what do you think,,, I will try their customer service again which can be painful and really their attitude is they hope you will go away!

So when it works its the best, but when is a bread maker useless, answer,,, when it stops being able to make bread, then even any other is better or buy bread!

No one is sorrier than Me!

John

Never owned a bread maker before, read the reviews here and decided to invest. Worth every penny. I started with a spicey fruit loaf on the first day and have since made 4 loaves both white and wholemeal. Used the quick bake and the 4 hour cycle and both give really good results. Need to try freezing to see how good the bread is from the freezer but if not it's easy enough to bake most days.

Cakes are next, can't wait.

“I was given a Panasonic SD255 breadmaker for my...”

★★★★★

written by on 10/06/2010

I was given a Panasonic SD255 breadmaker for my birthday, which was brill. My wife has needs bread that is wheat & dairy free and that kind of bread is either really crumbly or expensive (£3+) or both. I make between 4-5 loaves a week, however this week its been on everyday.

The "normal" breads Wholemeal, brown & white are super easy and take about 2 hrs to do and have all the benefits of timer etc. Very easy and realtively straightforward.

The Rye bread function uses a differnt paddle but no biggy. My wife fav is a 50/50 spelt/rye with dried fruit and mixed spice, I either make into loaves or make them into hedgehog rolls. Works well using the Dove brands too. I substitute soya milk for water so she easily can get all the enriched vitamins etc.

I have 2 grumbles 1. the paddle sometimes gets stuck in and needs easing out. & 2. the REST function before any mixing takes place seems just to waste time, I would understand if had mixed the ingredients but they just sit there until a time has elapsed and then the machine works.

Would i recommend it? Yes I would. :-)

stylish, quiet, like a little baker in my kitchen. I think it is great value for money. So good to know what's in the bread i'm eating and really have the taste that i can perfect.

the timer mode doesn't seem as good as some other models i've seen. i set it overnight - 8 hours, and it just sits there for four hours then starts a normal cycle for the last four (four hour loaf). so had it a few times where the yeast sits in water for several hours and it doesn't rise properly.
