I often get those Maplin brochures arrive in the post with lots tempting products. I have purchased many items from them and have been generally happy with the service until now. I recently purchased an item from Maplin which was faulty. I took the item straight back and expected them to exchange it for a new one. Silly me, Maplin are the only store that don't exchange faulty goods for new. Instead you have to send the item back for inspection by an engineer, this takes a couple of weeks… Read Full Review

Be very careful buying anything of high value from Maplin. If it's broken or you want to return it for ay other reason you may well have a fight on your hands.
I bought an external hard disk drive from the store on the Strand, London. It was a well-known brand but did not function as expected on my laptop, even though the manufacturer stated it was compatible. I went to maplin in Stockport for a solar panel, yesterday 26/12/2008, I saw a 60what solar kit reduced from £299 to £229 a saving of £70 I thought, well keeping that in mind I looked for similar products in the instore maplin catalogue only to find the identical same product at a listed price of £199. I asked the manager if this was a mistake and could I have the £70 saving of the catalogue price because there was clearly an error in the sale price. Maplin is one of those places you either love or hate. If you know what you want then all is well. If not, then you have to rely on the store staff and I've found that this can be 'hit or miss'. But in my local store, the staff are always willing to help out, and will get someone who can help.
To be realistic to get highly knowledgeable staff, in a high street store, with the range of products that maplin sell is going to be tricky (no offence young chaps of this world)

Returned an ME1 media centre and HDD on13/4/08,both puchased feb 08, Repair centre didn't recieve them till 22nd.I called 1st may to chase them up and they hadn't even been looked at.Called again on the 6thmay ,they had been looked at ,found to be faulty but i was informed that a 'final decicion' had to be made!!! i was told to call back monday 12th may making it a whole month since returned to store… Read Full Review
