Written on: 25/11/2002

Please beware that this phone CAN send 160 characters. It can in-fact send long sms up to 490 characters in length.
The explanation for this is:
"This guy must have the language set to one which requires unicode -
it is taking 16 bits per character, which actually gives you 70
characters per SMS rather than the 60 he counted"
-Matthew Haigh @ uk.telecom.mobile newsgroup.

I've had a 5210 for about 6 months now. It has a decent range of features and in general it works fine. But I have noticed a glitch in the reception. Occasionally (about once per day)the phone appears to lose reception even though there is a good signal. The phone cannot be rang as it thinks it is out of coverage. If I make a call from the phone, however, it picks up coverage straight away. This only happens when the phone has been idle… Read Full Review

Written on: 07/11/2002 by Richard M.. (1 review written)

I recently replaced my 'old' Nokia 3310 for this phone. It had provided very good service over 18 months, and had converted me to the Nokia brand after owning many different phone models in the past. What swung the decision for me to buy the 5210 was this models practicality. It is quite unique in it's sector of the market as it is dust and water resistant (splash proof) and shock proof. It is therefore ideal for me as a walker and cyclist, as I can take this phone with me everywhere. I go in… Read Full Review

I have had this Nokia 5210 mobile phone for over 5 months and i like it a lot but when it rings you can't hear it as the shell is so thick - even on loud. Apart from this it is well put together and has some good things on it. It could be a bit smaller but it is very lite… Read Full Review

Written on: 16/10/2002 by thazure. (1 review written)

The Nokia 5210 mobile phone is basically an 8210 with a sturdier physique.
The keypad security code is a big plus. It prevents others from using it without your consent and get this: if ever you misplace your phone and another person tries to use it, he'd have to punch in the code (it has to be keypad locked). If he turns it off, he'd have to input a pin code. If he changes sims, another security code. Great anti-use, huh? Reception wise, it doesn't matter - as with every nokia phone a call… Read Full Review

Written on: 21/09/2002 by chikoy. (1 review written)

I bought the Nokia 5210 mobile phone simply because it was supposedly shock and water resistant. It really is! I deliberately dropped it several times and used it while it was raining to check it's durability. It has never failed me yet. This phone is perfect for the outdoor and adventure type person. It has most of the basic nokia functions plus additional features the younger generation will appreciate like games, picture editor and ringtone composer. The stopwatch and timer is not that… Read Full Review

i used to have an ericsson t10 which i loved, then moved onto the nokia 3310 as a temporary phone and finally ended with the nokia 5210. for my lifestyle being throwing the phone onto the table, or the botom of my breifcase this phone is the best. it is built to be shock proof, dust proof and can withstand splashes of water, even the dc socket for the phone has a gasket covering it so water would not seep in. the reception is good and the sound is great. the personal profiles is endless and… Read Full Review

Written on: 23/07/2002 by Froggy. (1 review written)

I bought the Nokia 5210 mobile phone just the other week. Can't find any faults. Before, I have had a 5110 and a 3310. Both have been good phones and have had no major problems, so the 5210 was the next step for me. I am a sporty, active person and have already put the phone to the test with it dropping out of my pocket while on a Mountain bike ride in the peaks. It fell onto a hard surface at about 25mph, then into a puddle and ended up hitting a stonewall. Apart from a small scratch, nothing… Read Full Review

I've owned the Nokia 5210 mobile phone for 2 months. My first 5210 (after less than a month) froze every time i entered the Games section. It was then replaced by another which (after a month) won't vibrate. I would not have complained but as the ringtones are not loud enough, i can't hear or feel my phone ring. Most other people who i have spoken to have not had any faults with theirs so maybe i'm just unlucky. I've found that some of the features on the phone are useless especially the… Read Full Review

I work in a mobile phones shop, and I can say that this Nokia 6510 mobile phone has some problems. In this category (tough phones), reliability is the key-factor, and the 5210 isn't so reliable. Its battery has poor performance and reception is below average. I think that it isn't worth the money… Read Full Review

Written on: 17/06/2002 by greg. (1 review written)

This Nokia 5210 mobile phone is very good except that the on/off button is bad. I also agree with another reviewer that there is a problem with the phones reception as I have used my old 3210 & 5110 in the same locations with no trouble. I also use a plug & play unit a lot & there are a few functions which do not work while plugged in {keypad lock, thermometer}. If anyone is thinking of buying a leather case for the phone, they're fairly useless if you need to open the bottom of the phone… Read Full Review

Written on: 14/06/2002 by cam. (1 review written)

All the features on the Nokia 5210 mobilel phone are pretty much the same as other nokia phones. New functions such as the thermometer aren't that acurate therefore aren't that practical to use. The cover locking mechanism feels weak and flimsy. The cover looks sturdy enough, but did not live up to my expectations after reading nokia's review more or less discribing it as being able to take a beating...
The on/off button is an absolute B*****D to turn on and off, i found it's quicker and… Read Full Review

You guys obviously have different opinions. The phone is probably the same anywhere but different networks, usage, coverage etc will all affect the reception & battery performance. I expect if you all put your phones in the same place the reception & battery life would be the same if used in the same manner with the same services & settings. So get over it!!

Written on: 29/05/2002 by Charlie Kininmonth. (1 review written)

I was on my third Nokia 5210 mobile phone in 12 months. I like to have a good phone but if i buy the best, I will lose a lot of money when it inevitably breaks in the near future. So I buy mid range phones generally, 3310, 3330, 3330. These never lasted more than 4 months. I am a clumsy person and my phone gets dropped often. This phone practically bounces back into your hand when you drop it. Feature wise, it is a substantial upgrade of the 3330, which in turn is an upgrade of the 3310. It has… Read Full Review

Perhaps if you are a clumsy person, you should get a belt clip or carry case for it.
Also, I would not suggest you hold it under a running tap as it is supposed to be splashproof only NOT WATERPROOF. You are lucky that it still worked...!
