“Stay away”

Written on: 13/10/2013

Paid reservation fee and was never told that the house I was buying for £240 000 needed £15 000 upgrades. I got a shock when I was called to come and view the plans. The standard features are cheap quality so you are forced to upgrade. So what I literally bought was a shell with corner shop fittings, 2 tiles in the toilet to be specific… Read Full Review

“Terrible service and awful to deal with”

Written on: 29/09/2013 by Milster123 (1 review written)

Looked at a Barratt home in Finningley which we really liked, so agreed to go ahead with a part exchange valuation. Told the sales rep the property had just been valued independently at £158,940 and this was the minimum we needed to achieve to do a deal. We had problems with arranging valuations, but finally organised after two weeks. Spoke to a financial advisor recommended by Barratt and gave him all the details of the deal we needed. He confirmed we would have no problem with a mortgage… Read Full Review

Spot on .. Nearly all negative comments come from experienced buyers .. Unfortunately first time purchasers and young couples fall for their marketing techniques .. Absolute rubbish built .. Thinky dogs would do a better job .

“poor customer service”

Written on: 23/09/2013

We bought a house 2 years ago to the day. Initially we were really pleased but we have had quite a few problems over the years and my conclusion is they are cheap houses where the Guarantee is not worth the paper it’s written on- they will find some excuse not to cover major faults! Furthermore the customer care is shocking. • The first winter we had rain coming through the window which literally soaked the wall and the curtain. When the site manager came to look at it he first accused me… Read Full Review

“Poor customer service and workmanship”

Written on: 28/08/2013 by schitzo15 (1 review written)

We've lived in our home for 4 years now and have had countless problems. The first week we moved in we had to have window vents and door handles replaced, the front door completely re-fitted and the bath re-sealed. There were further issues with our front door which were never rectified as we didn't receive any calls back. This has resulted in the front door lock finally failing and now being out of warranty. Had we bought the house in the last year or so it'd actually be covered by the new '5… Read Full Review

“Flooded in 12 hours”

Written on: 23/08/2013 by 19mo89 (1 review written)

Property got flooded within 12 hours of moving in, they promised to compensate for our damaged belongings. They stripped our carpets and vinyl and we had loss of a kitchen for 4 days even though we were advised it would take one day!. So the concrete flooring had collated dust, me and my pregnant partner had been inhaling this throughout the whole rectification process. It took them two weeks to replace the carpets vinyl and kitchen unit, they wanted to prolong it for a further week if it… Read Full Review

“Poor Workmanship”

Written on: 22/08/2013

We moved into our new house in December 2012 when our troubles started, our family bathroom toilet was plumbed into our central heating system so they had to cut two holes into our kitchen ceiling to connect the correct pipes to each other. Our front and back doors leak every time it rains I do feel they are of a poor standard not just the way they are fitted. The decorator was a blind man as there is paint over door handles, heating controls, doorbell box and ceiling paint on walls. The… Read Full Review

“MONEY DOWN TOILET”

Written on: 07/08/2013 by Hogette (1 review written)

We moved to a four bedroom detached double gattage Barratt property in Rugeley Staffordshire in August 2012. Having part exhanged my beautiful traditional victorian properly. What a mistake that was. The built quality is dire. Fixtures and fittings are the cheapest you can purchase. Poor finish on basically everything. Boggy garden which they refuse to do anything about. Tarmac on the drive with indentation from parking . Was told not to put heavy objects in hot weather!! Customer… Read Full Review

“Please DO NOT buy a Barratt House!!”

Written on: 03/08/2013 by teletel (2 reviews written)

After reading these reviews I am annoyed with myself that I did not read these BEFORE I bought a Barratt House. In summary they are cheap shoddy quality! They offered me a derisory sum in part ex, so I took out equity and rented my old house to pay the deposit and have money left to pay towards the new house mortgage. The quality is very poor: Kitchen Double Glazed Windows are a joke! My bay window is like a listing ship, internal window beading fitting is very poor. Most of the glass is… Read Full Review

“How are Barratt Homnes still in Business ??”

Written on: 22/07/2013 by Joeyramone (1 review written)

I bought a Barratt house 8 years ago and the standard of workmanship is to say the least appalling. One thing after another. The latest is the faulty fitting of a Durco valve resulting in rotting timbers and flooring. They came to fix it this morning and replace a bathroom cabinet but their plumber never turned up! Same old saame old. Windows in my house all need replacing as they dont work but are not covered under NHBC (ANOTHER WASTE OF TIME). Best laugh is Barratts didnt use a FENSA… Read Full Review

“No more Barratt home for me”

Written on: 10/06/2013 by unhappybarratthomeowner (1 review written)

Please do NOT buy Barratt Homes. From the start, the sales person was on her first day at work. She had no idea what to do. Her supervior was not very polite until she knew we had a few investments. Upon the date of handover, the wood floor popped, scratches on the walls and balcony door. The flat was NOT ready to move in. The Customer Service representative who promised and promised that things will be done by certain dates. Never happened. Her job is to promise but Not to deliver. The… Read Full Review

“I wish i had never bought a Barratt house”

Written on: 06/06/2013 by essexboy71 (1 review written)

Firstly, the claim to offer 100% of the market value o my house if i part-exchange. They offered me £130k, but they were anaware that i had already had a valuation from the SAME estate agents a few days before who valued my house at £165k !!! Once i called their bluff they increased, and i eventually bought, even though i still didnt get the market value. As soon as Barratts got my money, the problems began. The happy, smiley customer service stopped immediately, and barratts became awkward… Read Full Review

“Disappointment after disappointment.....”

Written on: 20/05/2013 by DJ_Fonte (1 review written)

We bought a Barratt Homes apartment nearly 3 years ago and it has been problem after problem since then. Within two months of moving in the roof caved in after heavy rain in the W/C, hallway and bedroom 2. This was dealt with fairly quickly but the work was rushed and very poor. We also had some personal items damaged during this time. When I picked this up with Barratts they suggested that I claim on my contents insurance. I told them this would put my premium up and it was a faulty roof so… Read Full Review

“What a Joke”

Written on: 10/05/2013 by Ramsurn (1 review written)

My wife fell in love with one of their house. Just perfect in every detail. The house was on sale for £175.000 . Our house was worth £165 .000 for a quick sale. Although Barrats says that they offer 100 percent. What a joke. I don't know what their valuer valued our house for as he would not tell us, but they would only give us £130.000 for ours. I had our house revalued again by the same estate agent whom we bought it from and they insisted that we could get £169 .500 if we r not in a… Read Full Review

“Barratt breach the Consumer Code for Homebuilders”

Written on: 04/05/2013 by RyanThomas2013 (1 review written)

Barratt quoted a service charge estimate of £1200 to £1300 in their marketing material when they knew the ACTUAL cost would be £2300.79. I took them to the Consumer Code for Homebuilders for an adjudication and got compensation. You can read the full adjudication at Honeybadgerblog.co.uk. Uffizi's Response to RyanThomas2013's Review

Which property was it? Is it in East London? I just comitted to a Barratt Homes property recently and it will complete by end of 2014.

So, why the actual service charge is so far off?

It is GWQ in West London (Brentford). It was so far off because they simply published a completely false estimate - it really is that simple. If you go to [removed] you can read the claim I made and the subsequent adjudication made by The Consumer Code for Homebuilders ... who are themselves a complete bunch of jokers.

Aslan84's Response to RyanThomas2013's Review

Written on: 24/03/2014

Hi There I am interested in hearing more about your experience. I bought a flat from them last year and they give me an estimate of £1232.00 for service charge. and this year they changed the management company with one they set up themselves and increased the service charge to 1395, and gave the pathetic excuse that the previous company forgot to account for the car park service charge. Please help with any advise, as I am taking them to court for this. many thanks

Ryanthomas2013's reply to Aslan84's Comment

Written on: 13/07/2014

Hi Aslan - sorry for the slow response. In my case Barratt sold the property quoting a service charge estimate of £1300 but they were actually quoted £2300 by the management company 3 months BEFORE they started marketing the property. They then charged me £2300 at completion. The court process is still underway. It is quite a long process.

“Terrible doesn't cover it!!”

Written on: 01/05/2013

Really wish I had done my research before buying! I persuaded my family to move for a fresh start, bigger home and a house I could move into without rushing to decorate or sort. It was supposed to be a happy time instead it's been 21 months of hell! The minor snags I cold live with and at first not a problem but once the last house on the estate was sold they were gone and we were forgotten. I've had roof tiles come off and damage my car but more seriously the edging of the roof is coming away… Read Full Review

“nightmare”

Written on: 19/04/2013

I wouldnt suggest this company to anyone let alone a first time buyer like myself and my other half. This company has been a nightmare all the way through the experience pushing back the completion date further and further on a new build home. They gave us 2 working days notice untill the date we believed to be moving into the house that they could no longer meet the dates promised to us. I wouldnt give this a star but it was required to give at least one… Read Full Review
