“Flood risk area - Tarleton Plox Brow development!!!!”

Written on: 25/03/2015 by Sheag207 (1 review written)

A number of elevated houses border the Tarleton Plox Brow development. At the bottom of their gardens is an established and very deep reed bed which has created a large pool of standing water. Barratt were aware of this when they bought the land. Due to the flood risk area and the location of the canal, the site needed to be elevated by approximately two + metres. However, the elevation of the land has not extended to the edge of the land which borders on existing houses. What you have now is… Read Full Review

“Very rude & unprofessional!!!”

Written on: 22/03/2015 by IvyCarter474 (1 review written)

I was interested in the new development at Tarleton Plox Brow but the sales lady was the most rude, abrupt & unprofessional person I'd ever met. I couldn't quite believe the way she spoke to myself & other people enquiring in there. I will NOT be going in there again!… Read Full Review

I have to disagree. We found her to be very friendly, plain talking and helpful each and everytime we dealt with her. No jargon, no snobbery and to the point.

“Will find a way to wheedle out of anything in 5yr Warranty”

Written on: 20/03/2015 by Doughbun (1 review written)

Anything even obscure things have to be serviced every year or warranty is no existent. Having all the gas appliances & heating serviced annulling is not enough..every appliance has be serviced annually ! The hot tank has a faulty valve...which is a fault...the acustoer service team agreed it was a fault with the actual valve, experienced by a whole lot of other buyers... But if you can produce an annual service certificate for that particular appliance ....nothing!… Read Full Review

“Barratt Burton Woods Disappointment”

Written on: 11/03/2015 by MicahLamont (1 review written)

Looking for our first home together after getting married in April we reserved a plot off plan on Burton Woods last year in the phase 2 development. It wasn't until we viewed the actual site that we noticed a full sized man hole bang in the middle of what would be the front lawn that we decided to move plots and house type. This was stressful in itself as we preferred the first house but couldn't live with the man hole. After moving plots we went to see how it was coming along a few weeks… Read Full Review

Hello, we live on this development on the dwh side.
We have a compound (or tip ) would be more appropriate opposite us and care currently in dispute over the plans for this land which apparently they don't yet own either! I just wondered If your issues were resolved on the end?

Hi, sadly we pulled out of the purchase as planning permission was never granted and according to the Durham County Council website it still hasn't been granted which is very strange as it's now over 1 year since it was applied for.
We're now in the process of buying a new build in Bishop Auckland and are hoping to complete on the 26th June.
Very strange situation with the land at Burton Woods, I hope for everyone's sake the planning permission and purchase of land gets resolved sometime soon.

“Never again!”

Written on: 01/03/2015 by TaniyaFournier117 (1 review written)

Basically once they have your money they are not interested in any problems. The condition of our property on moving day was horrible. Dirt and dust was visible. The floors were dirty, there was grit in the bath and the kitchen sink was badly scratched. We were told the property would be cleaned to a 'sparkle finish' before we took possession. Initial small snags were sorted fairly quickly - the kitchen sink was replaced, the bath was polished to make a smooth surface, chips in the kitchen… Read Full Review

Similar problems to mine in the MAYFIELD MANOR estate in North Ayrshire I certainly would avoid them with a barge pole and after being in my home for 4 years in June I'm still finding things going wrong inside and out!!!!

“Just don't buy”

Written on: 24/02/2015 by dm40 (1 review written)

I cannot possibly take the time I really need to fully write about my experience with Barratt Homes. What I will say is this: I am not a fan of new houses but I bought this instead of an old house because my life is complex and I am time poor. However, the time I have spent chasing, being home for constant 'attempts' at repairs, and dealing with failing plumbing, electrics, and electrical items could have been spent doing up an old place! Aside from the faults, there are so many very… Read Full Review

“agents wasted my time and money do not go with them”

Written on: 20/02/2015 by 55Munoz (1 review written)

I was dealing with a agent who was misleading me to buy a property. I have had the worst experience my time and money has been lost in this all I can say is they promise you the stars and deliver sand. David Wilson homes are nothing they give every state agent a bad name in the industry and that's why a lot of people do not like state agents.do not consider dealing with them rite at the end they will one way another make you very upset and angry believe me dealing with them has broke my trust… Read Full Review

“David Wilson Homes”

Written on: 18/02/2015 by DMcNeish (1 review written)

I bought a house from David Wilson Homes in June 2015 in Strensall. The finish was nothing short of shocking. 8 months later, we are still finding things wrong. We have had 3 leaks, the 3rd one being a flood before Christmas, in the garage and hall. The company will not compensate us for anything in the garage because it should only have a car in it. Even though part of the garage is classed as a Utility Room on the plans. They have lied to us from start to finish. Speaking to other home owners… Read Full Review

“Perfect Location!!”

Written on: 20/01/2015 by molthomson (1 review written)

Since living in my new home on the estate of Saxon Rise i couldn't of had a better life. The locations chosen by Barrett’s are always thought out well so they could benefit as many different people as they can. They normally try to locate around a school, a village where there are local shops, transport and a quick drive to a train station, airport or other necessities. They fit my everyday needs and they have also encouraged me to try new things and spend more time with my kids… Read Full Review

“OUTRAGEOUS!”

Written on: 08/01/2015 by Jacobp316 (1 review written)

Do not buy a new property with Barratt Homes they are a sly money grabbing comapny with no morals !! They act nice and professionally until they sell all the houses in the street. They then employ a private parking ticket agency and put up parking restrictions months later on the streets which state 'no parking or waiting' 24 hours a day and issue parking tickets that are £100 per ticket. That's fine but when they only allocate one space per house its ridiculous. Barratt Homes are money… Read Full Review

“Cardboard ceilings.”

Written on: 20/12/2014 by Somerset45 (1 review written)

We bought a 4 bedroom barrett home in the houndwood development, street, somerset in April 2014. The property was the most expensive on the development. It has 2 en- suite bathrooms which we thought were lovely. My brother has one of the bedrooms which benefits from a en- suite. His bedroom is above the lounge. OMG, if he uses the toilet, when we are sat in the lounge, we can hear everything!!!!! And I mean EVERTHING, His toilet activities are generated very very clearly to the lounge!!!! Paulious's Response to Somerset45's Review

Written on: 05/01/2015

I completely agree with your review. I have myself purchased a Barratt 'Barbie' home a year ago and the general construction is terrible. Again we aren't talking about a small amount of money either, certainly more than a properly built Victorian town house. All internal walls were built using the Japanese paper technique and party walls are so thin that if I turn my open back headphones up to the maximum setting my neighbours can hear it! Absolute joke. Worst decision I've made in a decade. AVOID

I have the exact same problem in my Barratt apartment. Actually as I type this I can hear my neighbour above me using his toilet. The only place in the apartment that I can't hear him when he's in the toilet is the lounge. It drives me crazy!

“Happy Customer - Lyveden Fields, Corby”

Written on: 24/11/2014 by Saltwicksister (1 review written)

We reserved our new Barratt Home back in May. I do agree that it is slightly un-nerving how (all) new house builders pressure you to have a) already SSTC in order to reserve and then b) exchange contracts within a month or two - given that at that time the house you are buying is still barely more than a concrete slab. However, we did exchange contracts (did not pay anything towards extras until after contracts were exchanged) and then we waited and watched (like hawks) while our home was… Read Full Review

“Barratts !!!!”

Written on: 21/11/2014 by zendar (1 review written)

My experience of Barratts has been a rollercoaster and one I would not wish to go through again. Inexperienced new home buyer beware. The house I initially wanted which was a one bedroomed end house, apparently was going to be a show home(I didn't buy that, but was told ohh yes look its pencilled in here on the plan, still didn't buy it), The girl in the office insisted this was the case. Not long after I moved into my terraced the end house was occupied. The floors were in a terrible state… Read Full Review

“Ashford at BlueBell Meadow excellent purchase”

Written on: 08/11/2014

In November 2-13 I opted to purchase a 2 Bed Ashford house on the Bluebell Meadows development in Newport, Isle of Wight. My circumstances required me to move in to the house within four weeks. From the outset, this was an excellent experience and nothing was too much trouble for the two sales advisers. It was the same with the site manager, all were keen to provide a product of the highest quality. Between them, they held keys and provided access to varous service provides in between legal… Read Full Review

“Poor Building Quality”

Written on: 31/10/2014 by 1948Brewer (1 review written)

We recently moved in to the new build flat by Barratt London is total nightmare. The snagging list is never ended. Asymmetrical window skirting, wrong build in wardrobe being put in by Barratt contractor, Dents everywhere on the window frame, scratch window glasses, broken doors, uneven wall finishing paint. The workmanship is so rough that below most of the flats we stayed before. Just after two weeks I really want to sell the flat. When we bought a new build, was expecting to have a new life… Read Full Review

Put a £500 deposit down on a four bed terrace back in June 2014 on the Windsor Park development in Buckingham. I had already sold my own house but straight away they were saying you've got four weeks to do this....four weeks to do that. called me in to make any "choices" I might like, in other words extras, ..another £599.25 spent but this was just a deposit. The chain was delayed by the local authority... nothing any one could do.....and last Friday 24th October they pulled the plug on me… Read Full Review

Written on: 23/10/2014 by livesinaBarrattbox (1 review written)

Ok I have waited 15 months since moving in before writing this review but the time has now come! Bought a 2 bed flat in a new development in South East London from Barratts in August 2013. The best news is that it is a great flat in a great location and in terms of value for money the property has put on at least 20% in 15 months even by the lender's conservative valuation methods. The buying process is full of traps for the unwary. Barratts sales lady was manipulative throughout including… Read Full Review
