“ongoing problem”

★☆☆☆☆

written by cokey46 on 06/03/2019

Took "removeable" filter out to clean and was unable to replace it as locating nib on kettle broke off when filter was removed. As this was flagged up in 2015 clearly nothing being done to address problem. Also quite noisy.

THESE KETTLES ARE RUBBISH, LID BROKE SO THEY SENT ME A NEW ONE AS A ONE OFF AS THEY DIDN'T WANT THE BROKEN ONE RETURNING, THE NEW ONE LASTED 2 YRS. OR SO THEN LID BROKE, SO I STRIPPED IT DOWN AND REPAIRED IT USING SMALL PULL-TIES, NOW GOOD AS NEW

“No good”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Bauer177 on 05/11/2015

don't be taken by the handsome design of the Magimix Kettle! I didn't read reviews before purchase and after only getting a very short life span out of mine, it now joins the junk heap! After less than 6 month of owning it the lid kept popping open!..and refused to stay shut!!! After just over a year, the lid came off altogether !!! After that it switched itself off before reaching any kind of temperature, so we resorted to taping down switch on button!! Unfortunately I had bought in in UK hut live in Ireland, so wasn't able to take it back within the guarantee period! A sorry sight it is now and wasn't cheap to buy!!! we have replaced it with a handsome KMix Kettle by Kenwood! I can only suggest if you are tempted to buy a Magimix Kettle to read reviews thoroughly. This product is a definite NO NO!!

“Filter housing and lid”

★★☆☆☆

written by RileyPeterson on 01/04/2015

Problems yet again with this product and exactly the same problems. On removing the filter for cleaning the locating nib in the permanent housing immediately snaps making it impossible to replace the filter. Lid also steadfastly refuses to open fully when release mechanism is depressed. Initial kettle had to be replaced due to broken filter housing. Very poor design for a part that is meant to be removable.

Yes, exactly the same thing has just happened to us and no spare available. You would have thought by now they would have produced one. Before that, we loved this kettle :-( I'll buy a cheap as chip one next time.

“Useless lid mechanism and hinge arrangement”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 11/01/2015

Just consigned the kettle to the bin as the lid has completely detached from the kettle - a very weak and poorly detailed hinge arrangement - all revealed when the lid came away - very poor design. I have also been totally unconvinced by the claimed thermal properties of this kettle - just touching the side after it has boiled tells you its not any different to a single skin kettle. Ease of use has been compromised by the lid opening mechanism - always quite sticky.

“3rd time lucky?...... No!”

★★☆☆☆

written by Hibby1 on 12/12/2014

Our 3rd Magimix just gave-up. Each of the 3 kettles we have had failed due to poor quality design and fittings. First time it was the leaking plastic window. 2nd kettle it was the lid - the shoddy plastic hinge is just not built to last being in a hot environment!. 3rd kettle had a broken filter housing after a few months and yes, impossible to replace. Then, the lid hinge has just failed, broken, just like the last kettle. Magi mix make a product that looks sturdy and heavily built. But when you get used to the plastic parts that easily break or wear down inside, you realise its poorly designed and built and very difficult to repair. Why use posh stainless steel and then use flimsy plastic parts on important areas which come under stress in hot water?

“Faulty off and on switch”

★★★☆☆

written by RyleeGibbs on 28/11/2014

Really nice looking kettle but for the price the switch mechanism is poor quality at best, worse still you can`t buy a replacement switch. Easy fix though, gently prising off handle cover, remove screw below switch pull out switch, remove plastic L shaped part, superglue a 3mm piece of plastic or similar to the angled face that the switch comes against, reassemble and voila lid now opens.

“Excellent customer service”

★★★★☆

written by Spindrift1 on 15/10/2014

We, like others have had problems with this kettle, BUT we have had excellent customer service. The first kettle sprung a leak after 15 months and was replaced the same day. The second one had a failing thermostat after 2 years. At this point we thought, as over 3 years had passed by, Magimix would probably decline any further responsibility. So we wrote a polite letter with our tale of woes and received a new replacement kettle with a courteous, apologetic letter. It is a great kettle and as Magimix have responded so positively to our problems with good service, we would still recommend this product.

“Third kettle! Time for a different make.......me thinks.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by uvSnow446 on 23/09/2014

On to my third Kettle, the first just after warranty expired lid broke, second just after warranty expired thermostat failed now the third kettle warranty has expired it has started to leak from the handle. How can Magimix justify the cost of these kettles when they only seem to last as long as the warranty, if these were £20.00 kettles I would understand but they are not! they may look good on the worktop but they are just not worth the money, think I shall go back to good old Russell Hobbs.

“Expensive, Heavy, Useless”

★☆☆☆☆

written by PaulNW on 25/10/2013

We bought the Kettle from COMET and soon after the Thermostat would randomly decide to cut out as soon as it was set, needing to be held in place until it boiled. Now the lid will not open. When polished it looks good on a worktop but buy a proper kettle if you want to heat water unless you want to stand holding the thermostat button.

“Three and out!”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 27/08/2013

The product looks good and solid and customer care was very good replacing two under warranty after faults developed but when the plastic lid mechanism disintegrated we were offered a discount on another. Other reviews are consistent with our experience, looks like a quality product but but fails to deliver for sufficient time to justify cost.

“Magimix kettle leaking”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Gizzybeard on 20/05/2013

We purchased a Magimix kettle as It looked good quality and the price certainly reflected this too. However after 3 years we noticed the kettle was leaking from the base on to the electrical base unit and worktop. We rang Magimix and they were aware of the problem but said it was out of warranty so they couldn't replace. This is a known problem.

Sfabri's Response to Gizzybeard's Review

Written on: 03/04/2014

agreed on the value for money ranking - leaking water and faulty thermostat switch seems to be the norm in this model and fail to understand how Magimix did not recall this model and replaced by new improved as after all, it's a pity knowing that the product seems durable and smart.

“Disappointing Magimix Kettle”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 18/05/2013

I give this kettle one star because it looks well on the worktop and has a good capacity, that's where all the positivie comments end. I bought a Magimix Kettle (stainless steel with cream inside handle), during a 25% off event at Debenhams. Staff assured me that there was nothing wrong with it and I was delighted to save a few quid. I brought the kettle home and put some water in it to boil, around half full, it seemed to reach boiling point very quickly but didn't shut off and I was a bit concerned. Once it stopped, I noticed a considerable amount of water on the worktop and wondered of I had perhaps spilled some when filling the kettle. I emptied the kettle again and repeated the process, this time it seemed to boil quicker. I noticed the water on the worktop again, I lifted the kettle and the base was soaking, tilted it to the side and water seemed to run out of it. I checked the manual to see if there was something I was doing wrong and it did say that in order to make the kettle cut off when it reached boiling point, it allowed moisture into the base- sounded odd, so I emptied the kettle and this time I made sure there was no water on the worktop, proceeded to boil and again it took longer to cut out at boiling point. I had also placed some paper on the worktop under the kettle and it was soaking wet. I cannot understand how a company can issue what is clearly faulty goods and do nothing to correct the situation. I bought Magimix because I have had one of their food processors for 37 years and it is still as good as the day I bought it. Returned it to the shop on the following day, told me they weren't stocking the product anymore.

“Expensive rubbish”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 26/04/2013

I have nothing good to say about these kettles - the first one I bought developed a fault in the lid which meant it flew open during boiling and then didn't switch off automatically. I was sent another kettle under the guarantee but 18 months on this has started to leak from the bottom and around the electrical connection to the kettle. I rang to complain again and was told that as my original guarantee on the first kettle was now just out of the three year period they did not have to replace the second kettle - I would have thought they would be embarrassed enough to want to replace it rather than hiding behind the small print. They look good but I found it poorly balanced to pour. Shame on you Magimix! Just shows that price is no measure of quality.

“On my 5th one in 3 years”

★★☆☆☆

written by donny10 on 25/04/2013

Bought the kettle to replace my 10 year old siemens (the base finally gave up). The first one worked well for about eigth months and my Mum and Dad bought one mine then started to switch off before it reacehed boiling point.Magimix sent a new one out.My parents kettle leaked and they binned it. My second one leaked and magimix sent a new one, third one leaked again and magimix again sent a new one.Into the third year and the lid would not open but now the warranty has expired. The warreanty starts from you origional purchase NOT from when you get your replacement. This is a shame as i thought i would never need buy another kettle again.Anyway to give magimix credit they did change it for the last time. The new kettle now has a terrible plastic taste so i am trying to cure it with bicarb. So 2 stars because magimix customer service has always been good but for £80 i expect a kettle to last seven years min.I will go back to siemens next time.
