Never Buy 1.6 first of all its equal to any other 1.2L or 1.3L
Always somthing thing will come up on Dash like warnings even you have got it checked from you mechanic.not really economical 5 to 6 year old wont do more than 22 to 24.handling well steering is good but handling itself Very Poor because the KIA Shuma cant figure out where driver wants it to go..well its very comfortable as compared with other in the price range. Since, it has been suspended by KIA so buy something else because you just gonna pay your gas bill after selling it..trust Me

I have had my KIA shuma from brand new and had to replace top end of engine twice!!!! at a cost of over £1000 each time!!! The design of the engine is useless and upon further research apparently this is a common fault the engine seizes with no warning!!!Also can only buy parts direct form kia who use this to their full advantage and put proces up by approx 500% compared to a ford!!

I would not buy an old one. Bought it at auction for £3,400 it was 18 months old with 20,000 on the clock in 2002.
Sold in 2008 for £720 on e bay
The car cost next to nothing to run excellent value.

Great car with respect to speed /acceleration / comfort! Great pick and grip of the vehicle. Spacious and relaxing drive.

Bought the Kia Shuma new in 1999 for just £6000. Incredible value for money at the time. Has cost me practically nothing to run: tyres £70 a pair for the front; one set of front pads in 118,000 miles! New radiator at 100,000 miles, driveshaft boots and a few bulbs. That's it. Not a spot of rust. Starts first time all the time. Just goes on and on. Okay, it's not a 'fashionable' car, but hell it's tough. Will be sorry to see it go.

I think that for the money that you pay for the car from new they are a terific little car and just keep going. The car has plenty of pull in all gears, good all round electrics, is relatively cheap and will keep up with most other cars. My one has done 104,000 plus miles so far and has never stepped a foot wrong!! I haven't had to do any major work to it other than the exhaust due to an over zealous bus driver pushing my other half into a ditch!! great car. the only very slight downside is the front lights... they just don't look as good as they could have done.. :)

Had my car for 2 years now. Only problem has been brakes, which after 1 month of buying it second hand the brake shoes shattered. On MOT the corroded brake cables had to be replaced. Today the servo had to be replaced due to the inlet being broken off, where with other makes this is made of rubber not metal so I wouldn't have paid out for a whole new unit. Come on KIA, keep up! Apart from this, I love my car. From now on I'll always go for KIA. Loadsa car for a little money.

Have had this KIA Shuma 1999 family car for three months and been very pleased with it, engine is more than powerful enough for the car and has handled anything I have thrown at it, ride quality is very smooth and quiet, and is a great car for the money, a practical alternative to a Mondeo or Peugeot 406 for those that can't afford one of the same age as the equivalent shuma. For the size of the car it is also quite good on petrol.

The KIA Shuma 1999 is a cheap car, very good value for the size and reliability, clutch went after the first year, I believe this was poorly assembled at the factory, never had a problem since having a new clutch fitted at my expense at the KIA dealership.

The car is a very good value for the money, no problems in two years, but will never buy a car from KIA again.
It realy has a big consumption of petrol (old technology) as with the air conditioning on is around 15 liters on 100Kms. Realy bad.

I have owned a Shuma since 1999 and I love the car. I found the car very reliable. The car is also very comfortable, both as regards interior space for driver and passengers as well as to its ride. Engine is slightly underpowered especially with the air-conditioning on. Overall, it provides excellent value for money.

So far spent a few thousand bucks just on repairs alone (drove the 3 year old car less than 6 months). However, I did quite a lot of modifications to the car, like bodykits, sports rims, etc. Improved the performance by a bit but there are still a lot of problems like engine leaking oil, brake disc warping, engine mounting crack, drive shaft, etc. Heard a lot of feedback about the poor quality of this model.

hey, where did you buy that body kit? I'm from norway, and have the same car as you, but can't find a body kit for it. Do you know about a good web site? Thanks!

Kia might be a good car in colder countries. Or it might be because of different manufacturers. I'm from Singapore and the car is really problematic. Anyway, I've just sold the car which is pictured above. I bought it at $49,000 and drove it for 10 months. I sold it for $36,000. Imagine how much I lost. Including all the stuff I added to the car to make it perform better, I lost more than $20,000 in 10 months. All because NOBODY WANTS THE CAR! There's no value for Kia in Singapore, or other tropical countries. :(

The Shuma is a nice 5 door hatchback from Kia with a nice shape (the front resembles a toyota celica, rear a Merc). It's major selling point is its spacious cabin and very low price (the price of a super-mini). The Shuma is also economical but it's 1.5litre engine is a bit underpowered. However, the car can take after market mods with ease. A major disappointment is the very low rent interior plastic material of the dash. Otherwise, a very good effort from Kia. My brother owns one and he absolutely adores it!
