Would never use again. Wouldn’t even use them if they quoted me 90% off my policy. Steer well clear.

“Steer clear”

They automatically renewed our policy, without consent, they had put the price up £200 over the course of 2 years, annoyed with myself for it cancelling sooner! no claims made either. I then get a letter 3 months later asking to phone them and was told we owed them 3 months worth of payments, as they couldn’t take payment from us! I asked why they were calling about this 3 months in and not contacting us straight away and was told accounts looking into what’s owed every 3 months! Asked to be put through to customer complain and the call handler hung up on me. What a joke of a company! Won’t be using again!

“Will not settle claims and avoid contact ”

Lost my phone and despite assuring me my claim would be settled within a day or two, they have automatically passed my ‘case’ to a third party ‘fraud investigators’. Wish I had read these reviews. Having made 2 claims with AA in the past 15 years, both minor personnel belongings, always settled immediately. To automatically assume all claims are fraudulent tells me all I need to know.. Not a nice feeling when being suspected of dishonesty! Regardless of the outcome, I will not renew in February. Be aware.

“Awful”

Auto renewal of contents insurance and then charged £35 for cancellation as I had moved to Uni and taken insurance there. The premium had increased by 25% although I had not made a claim. Other companies give notice of renewal.

“Awful.”

I don't even want to give 1 star. They don't deserve a single star. Absolutely horrendous company! Do not get insurance with this company. Atroutious customer service, liars, let downs and totally untrustworthy. Rang a week prior to my policy renewal to cancel the policy as I found a cheaper policy elsewhere. I spoke to 3 different staff members who assured me it was stopped, 7th November; my policy was renewed and they took £164 off me! I then spoke to a further 3 members of staff to be told I'd have to wait a week for my money even though it's their mistake. If you speak to SAV then ask for someone else, he promised to ring me back, email me and sort everything for Monday, HE HAS DONE NONE. I have now been told I won't get my money till wednesday. Customer service is awful. They took my money without authorisation and have made this process a nightmare and caused such inconvenience. The problem still isn't solved and I am still having to chase. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

“Cannot make a 3rd claim and they actually cancelled my...”

Stay away from this insurance company. been at least 3 years or so with Bradford And bingley with home contents cover but recently got a letter stating the details on there side was wrong or incorrect and stated they cannot renew the annual policy. So as you do I rang B&B and asked what was the matter with the details and got told it wasn't the details side of things? But infact I had made a recent 3rd claim last year in june for a broken tv that had fell of a Tv-bracket on the wall and that I had gone over my 2 claims allowed limit but I was not aware and no where does it state this in my policy documents they gave me or even mentioned by B&B OR LEGAL AND GENERAL. So I advised them that wasn't in my policy or infact told to me from day 1 of signing up to B&B'S insurance. And after spending 30 minutes trying to get to the bottom of it I Since rang the financial ombudsman and told them the side of things and was told that B&B is being unfair and wrongfully Cancelling my insurance As I have not breached the contract or done anything wrong Apart from Making a claim as that is what it is there for! Would not recommend and hope no 1 gets stuck in the same dilemma as I am in! Also high increase rates when renewed annually.

“Auto Renewal Scheme”

★☆☆☆☆

written by GideonGuzman437 on 13/07/2016

Beware of underhand auto renewal tactics. The staff are trained to be very ruthless with this. The premiums in the second year are vastly increased from the good value offered in the first year.

“Beware the auto renewal and high costs”

★☆☆☆☆

written by CaraPruitt on 12/12/2015

Auto renewal kicked in, including a £60 increase over the previous year. Of course there was no record accessible of this increase on my previous premium as all documents specifying this, typically available through their online portal, were now removed and I only found out by calling their service centre. On top of this, turns out that they had my postcode wrong (hence the lack of notice on the renewal, though of course they can email once they have already processed the auto renewal), and one can only guess about the underwriters decisions if a claim had ever been required with such an important detail incorrect! After some effort, managed to have waived the £25 cancellation fee, only 2 days after the auto renew, given the postcode error and lack of letter. Highly cynical of the insurance industry at the best of times and B&B only added to this. It took me all of 10 minutes after cancelling to find an alternate provider at £100 less for significantly more cover!

“Missed household insurance”

written by JulissaMcCarty376 on 22/11/2015

Take home insurance out. Ohhhh come to claim for accidental damage to be told sorry there is only your TV covered. Excuse me Mr B and B I've got news for you my home contains more than a TV. This policy was missed to me absolutely disgusting service. Customer Services is pathetic. Can't register on Self Service site. Can't find out who the underwritten of my policy is. You have not heard the last from me. Going seeing a solicitor. Sick now off empty promises We will phone you back in twenty four hours well a week has passed several phone calls by me and still no nearer to settling my dispute. I suggest you search for another company to insure your contents with. Bradford and Bingley are total rip off merchants. They take your money and do not pay up or tell you sorry you are not covered.

“Drain fiasco”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Corinnew436 on 26/06/2015

I bought my policy with Bradford and Bingley through Compare the Market.com. It seemed like they were competitive and offered a good service if anything were to go wrong. Just to make sure, I gave them a ring and spoke to a nice young man who banged away at the fact that they covered damage to your outside drains and had a 24 hour help-line. 10 days ago, whilst working in the garage, we noticed there had been sewage escaping from the soil stack just below ground level. As you do, I telephoned the helpline to ask for advice on what to do next. Having given the details, I was told to get someone in, which we did. I was then put in touch with Legal and General, the first person I spoke to had the wrong information and wanted more, the second one had the information the first one took down wrong and told me we should have had a survey done before work commenced. I so far have spent hours on the phone with L&G, been told at least 4 times that this may not been covered, asked many times for a manager and I have been passed around like a packet of crisps. 10 days on and I still do not have my claim in motion and the complaints department 'looking into it' and she still is not sure if my policy covers it!! Do not touch with a barge-pole!!!

“Incompetent, unhelpful, won't support genuine claims”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Gloria299 on 05/06/2015

Given this one star as I had to give a rating - my preference is no stars. Same issue as a number of people on here. Paid by debit card; card got replaced and therefore payment couldn't be taken. Got an aggressive letter about a late payment and fee attached to it. Rang them and tried to pay by setting up a DD at which point was told the 'computer' wouldn't allow it and if we want to set up a DD instead the annual cover would be £2,000 (currently paying about £20 per month). Now having to phone every month and pay on our new debit card and have also been informed by the incompetent idiots that they will not be offering us cover when the policy ends - through no fault of our own. They admit it is a fault in their system; no room for human common sense here. Rang up this week to report an exploded (therefore dead) appliance and they don't want to know - apparently it is wear and tear (a 3yr old moderately used applicance). Disgusted. Will tell whoever I can not to use these idiots.

“Steer well clear”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Bradynn411 on 13/05/2015

Steer well clear of these bunch of charlatans. If you pay by debit card the small print says you automatically agree to renew and so if you don't act the second you get the renewal notice you're stuck. That's because they also squeeze every last penny out of you. My debit card had been replaced and so they couldn't automatically renew - before I knew it £20 failed payment fee please. How about a nice email or letter saying your payment's failed please enter new details. No chance, not when they can charge you for it. I wanted to cancel the policy given that they seemed to be taking every opportunity to rinse more money out of me but guess what, cancellation fee please! All in all steer well clear unless you like paying tons of hidden fees and being sneered at by some liverpudlian call centre worker.

“THEY MAKE YOU USE A KEY FOB AND THEN CHARGE YOU £21...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Cullenlg8 on 06/05/2015

I recently took out home insurance with B&B in joint names with my partner and myself. I received a letter from Keycard enclosing one key fob and stating "LOSS OR THEFT OF YOUR KEYS WILL NOT BE COVERED IF THEY ARE NOT ATTACHED TO YOUR KEY FOB". I contacted B&B to say that the policy is a joint policy and we would need another key fob, and they informed me that there is a charge of £21 for it!! So, we both HAVE to use a key fob or else we will not be covered for loss or theft of our keys but they only supply one and charge £21 for any additional fobs. There was no mention of this at the time I took the policy out OR in their policy wording. MISLEADING AND MISREPRESENTATION.

“Cancel charge during cooling off period”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 08/04/2015

I actually didn't take out their policy. It was very cheap but i wanted freedom to cancel without charge during the standard cooling off period. Tesco and Legal & General, for example, do not charge and this should be industry standard. Bradford & Bingley will charge 25 quid even if you have had it for 1 day. They said it's normal, but it's not. Very harsh on those who choose it but then find a better deal, or those who perhaps find out they get it automatically as a bank account benefit. Could be any number of reasons. Not good in my opinion.

“keep away from them - home insurance .... what a joke." ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by fgardiner on 19/02/2015

I recently made communication regarding an issue , and requested advice, not intending to make a claim, but may take that route should it be necessary. I spent over two hours between 13 members of staff , who simply passed me on to another person and so on. They are useless in every sense od the word from a contact to actually listening to what has been asked, as it was an o844 number , m bill was about £10 . The calls made over the entire two hours on and on were to say the least like sticking jelly to a ceiling. My advice to B /Bingley is to sack the incompetent lot currently in place and start at the top. There is no way this BROKER, yes they are only a broker in the real sense. They should NOT be allowed to operate on behalf of "legal and general insurance" It appears that know looking at their review record many people have given this lot a 1 star. (terrible) I would go one further Minus -5 and not worth being insured with. Be well warned and look elsewhere.

“Incompetent and aggressive”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Keonr129 on 29/01/2015

Policy was up for renewal and premium way too high. Obtained cheaper and advised them two days before the renewal date that I did not want to renew. Followed this up with a letter. Two days after my renewal date I cancelled the direct debit at the bank to be on the safe side. In between this, Bradford and Bingley issued a letter to me with a charge of £20.00 for cancelling early and within the letter they make threats about debt collection agencies. They have sent me various text messages and left me voicemails telling me to call them URGENTLY. Clearly they are incompetent or worse are trying to force poor unsuspecting customers into paying fees for nothing. Formal complaint made via the Financial Ombudsman Service. I've also received an email with a customer satisfaction survey - what a cheek! Filled this in detailing my experience and surprise surprise they haven't done anything. If you are thinking of taking a policy with them I urge you to stay away!

“Avoid Bradford and Bingley”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Roachcc19 on 05/12/2014

Avoid at your own risk.Poor customer service and pain strikingly slow at resolving issues. My policy was on a no auto renewal yet they still renewed, tried to access my credit card without consent and then tried to bill me £60.00 for there error when the credit card company declined payment???? Lots of fanying around later and threatening letters i have to send proof of a new provider to them?? to a postal address? have they not heard of email? Biggest bunch of idiots and money grabbing fleecers i have had to deal with for a while. Avoid is my recommendation !

“Dreadful!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Leannal311 on 02/10/2014

Had to change my surname on their records as a result of getting married. They carried this out over the phone and straight after deleting five letters on their system and adding four letters, said that they would be charging me £20. It may very well be in their small print but I am cross that they did not warn me of this before proceeding to change my name - otherwise I would have left it be. Worst of all, I did not give my authorisation for them to take £20 from my MasterCard but they proceeded anyway. Very unpleasant customer service and would never use again.
