“Excellent Service from St.Helens”

★★★★★

written by Alannaf357 on 15/08/2017

Book my wedding hire with the St. Helens branch. We were met by the Manger who introduced herself and said she would be working with us to pick our outfits. Excellent knowledge of the suits and the fits help with choosing colours for ties advising the groom could have ivory to match my dress and the rest have ties the colour of the bridesmaids dresses. This was very useful and we decided to take this advice. All paperwork done deposit paid then we were given a date to come in for measurements the lady explained this was a guide and the suits would arrive 7 days before the wedding for a fitting and if anything needed changing this took 24/48 hrs. At the final fit the groom and his party went to the store got the same warm welcome from the manager helped with the fitting and spent time with each person only one item needed changing and as said took 24 hrs. The suits looked fabulous and fitted well. The service provided was excellent and the manager new what she was talking about, Highly recommend this store and the Manger big thank you.

“Order 6, pay for 5 get 3 - and a load of hassle to boot!”

written by greenwoodsconnectcomm on 05/05/2017

By the time you find out the sort of people you are dealing with... its too late! Greenwoods: 1860 Suit Hire If you are looking at this review you will see also the plethora of other dissatisfied customers. Heed them! Avoid: avoid: avoid! If you do not, like us, by the time you find out who you are dealing with it is too late! Greenwoods Suit Hire is run by people who seemingly couldn't give a damn. I'd go as far as to say that it seems a big joke to them. We hired six suits (without the benefit of reading the dreadful reviews, having used the long established shop in Bury St Edmunds (formerly Foster Mensware) on and off for retail purchases for many many years without problems). The deal was order five suits and get a sixth free - useful, as we needed to equip 6 persons: the the Groom, Best Man, Fathers of the Bride and Groom, a 12 year old Page Boy and his 3 year old assistant. It was to be a smart wedding, the groom had requested tails so we attended the Bury St Edmunds shop for selection, measurements and trying-on. This stage of the procedure went well and I was compelled to pay in full to secure the 'deal'. I, the Father of the Bride, paid in full for the entire entourage, £372.20 with the special 6 for 5 deal and I think there was another Christmas discount offer too - I can't remember now. With a smile and a wave, we wished them a Happy Christmas and went off, confident that they had the measure of our requirements with instructions to the adults to turn up a week before the April wedding for final fitting. (We were warned that if we left it any later, were there any fitting problems we would have to pay for 'overnight' courier transport.) The appointment was made. The Page Boy (12 yrs old) was advised to come in a month before to avoid problems were he to experience a growth spurt between measuring and fitting - an appointment which he kept on 11th of the preceding month. The Wedding was Saturday, 8th so our final fitting appointment was made for Saturday, 1st, as required. The Groom's suit fitted. The Best Man's suit jacket was too long in the sleeves and a replacement was ordered. The father of the Groom was well fitted. 1 The Father of the bride had, for reasons beyond our comprehension, been fitted with a 'Slim-Fit' shirt... 2 The Page Boy had am ill-fitting shirt and a pair of trousers which came to halfway up his calves - one wonders how it could be so wrong, particularly as Greenwoods 'experts' had measured him three weeks before! 3 The Page Boy's Assistant (from Reading) was unable to attend the fitting but we were, mindful of the appearance of little people in grown-up suits, quietly confident that his suit would fit, after all, Greenwoods were given his measurements and should provide clothes to fit. 1 The Father of the Bride. My 16 1/2" collar shirt was labelled Slim Fit: Much as I would like to be slim-fit again, as a 58 year old, I have thickened up a little as the years have passed. Naturally, I questioned this fitting. On trying the shirt, the top button was on elastic which was inadequate to hold the collar together - the shop assistant explained how this special addition made the shirt flexible and able to fit various people of a multitude of shapes - I wondered aloud why they couldn't just make shirts to fit properly in the first place. The shirt was returned with instructions to get a 17" Regular Fit shirt which was promised for delivery the following Tuesday 11am, Wednesday at the latest. 2 The Page Boy, really looking forward to dressing up to look the part was, at first, very disappointed to be the laughing stock, trousers halfway up his legs. Fortunately, he was soon to realise that the joke was on Greenwoods: it was they who were the incompetent buffoons. The shop assistant was rather too quick to point out that the Page Boy must have grown - Err, no: not 6" in 3 weeks. It was clear to me that an error was made somewhere and for my own peace of mind (and to apportion blame correctly) I was keen to confirm the measurements they had previously taken. This data seemed to unavailable on the Greenwoods super-computer and the only thing they could confirm was that the clothes he had the misfortune to have tried on were, indeed, the sizes that the distribution warehouse had sent out! The cuff-links might have fitted (if the shirt had), the jacket was OK (see photo) but the remainder was returned for replacement with correctly sized clothes, promised for Tuesday ()or Wednesday at the latest. 3 Assistant Page Boy wasn't available for fitting, a fact which seemed to cause some concern to the assistant. He repeatedly stressed that he wasn't responsible for ill-fitting if the wearer was unable to attend the fitting. I was pretty confident in his mother's ability to use a tape measure and assured him that if the clothes were the right size, correctly labelled, and fitted a dummy of the sizes we had given, I was confident that they would fit him. I remain of that view - even after the potential disaster which was dressing on the Wedding morning! Greenwoods had my home number (with answering machine in our absence) and were instructed to contact me or my wife as their point of contact. Monday came and went. Tuesday: we were expecting a call (promised on Saturday) after their delivery, scheduled for 11. Tuesday lunchtime, Mother of the Bride telephoned Greenwoods - nothing in yet - will call back. Tuesday afternoon, Mother of the Bride telephoned Greenwoods - nothing in yet: won't be in until tomorrow now. Wednesday, at about 11:30, the Mother of the Bride telephoned Greenwoods - nothing in yet. Wednesday lunchtime, Mother of the Bride telephoned Greenwoods - nothing in yet. After being necessarily cajoled to do so, the shop assistant promised to look into it and call us back. Mindful that time is running short, mindful of Greenwoods hitherto inability to measure/provide clothes that suit the measurements/to call back when they say they will, and the fact that we won't be available on the Friday for late fitting due to our commitment to decorate the hall, we were a little less than calm and relaxed! Wednesday afternoon, the Mother of the Bride telephoned Greenwoods - she was told that all they have received are the groom's replacement trousers (the Groom, doesn't need replacement trousers!). Greenwoods promised telephone when the rest arrives. Won't be in until tomorrow now. Wednesday, very soon afterwards - Father of the Bride - explained to Greenwoods that they were a disorganised rabble who needed to get a grip and find out where the suits had got to. It was no good just sitting on their hands and hoping that they may be in tomorrow (perhaps they'll turn up next Monday - but that would be rather too late!). If they can't establish exactly where the clothes are now, I suggested that they needed to get someone in a car to go and pick-up a duplicate set and bring them to the shop for collection tomorrow at the absolute latest. 'That's not how we work.' I was told. I wondered aloud whether, of the 60,000,000 people there are in this country, one couldn't be found and matched up with one of the 50,000,000 cars and they could drive our clothes to their shop. 'They come from Scotland.' - to which I replied, all the more reason to get a grip now! A short time later, about 4pm, we received a call telling us that the suits were in - apparently they had arrived yesterday (Tuesday) and they had, referring to the sizes, been able to work out that 'the groom's trousers' were in fact the trousers for the Page Boy... Meanwhile, the Page Boy's mother had also been in touch with Greenwoods, worried for her son's disappointment if his clothes weren't available. Having been advised that the clothes were now in, I arrived just before 5 (having had to park and walk to the shop). 1 My replacement shirt has the requested resized 17" collar but, once again, I was supplied with a Slim-Fit shirt. The shop assistant was adamant that the 17" collar shirt was not slim fit, despite the labelling as such - I wondered aloud why the manufacturer bothered to go to the time, trouble and expense to embroider labels and sew them in if they were unfit for purpose, indeed misleading: it would be better, surely, to not bother. In fact, despite his assurances and although the chest sizing was acceptable, the arms were very tight and it was very awkward to roll up the sleeves later for dancing. 2 The Page Boy and his parents were already present and fortunately the Page Boy's replacement outfit fitted him. The cuff links supplied, unfortunately, were unable to be used because the shirt was a standard button/button hole shirt. As a result of this incompetence, the wedding couple's gift to him in memory of his day as their Page Boy was spoiled as the special cull-links they had bought him were unable to be worn. 3 On the day of the wedding assistant page boy's mother attempted to fit the 3-year-old into his clothes. The trousers fitted, the waistcoat fitted, the jacket fitted. Why was the shirt 4" too small in the chest? It measured 21". The jacket chest size was absolutely fine. Unable to fit into the hired shirt, he was dressed in his own blue shirt for the wedding, one might argue, spoiling all the wedding photographs. In fact, it was a beautiful wedding, in spite of the pathetic performance of Greenwoods. In short, Greenwoods Special Offer equates to - Order 6; pay for five; get 3 satisfactory suits with, FREE, a whole load of hassle and worry at a time when you can well do without it! When I returned the clothes to Greenwoods store in Bury St Edmunds I arranged to meet with the (so-called) Manager: I expected copious apologies and some explanation for their failings - perhaps a cash adjustment to the charges they made. I was to be gravely disappointed. He didn't give a damn. He really couldn't care less. He made it seem as if everything was our fault. Was he at all apologetic? - was he hell-as-like! Allegedly, they did call on Tuesday and told us that 'the groom's trousers were in.' - Err, no, they didn't - it's a moot point in any event: it was incorrect and incomplete information! (the groom's clothes had already been collected and were fine - seemingly the remainder were, unbeknown to the shop assistant, in the shop awaiting collection.) Allegedly, one of our party had grown a little in the three weeks - Err, not by 6"! Apparently 'Slim-Fit' Shirts are made to fit slim people and the labelling is correct (so why wasn't the correct shirt supplied to me?). I asked why the Page Boy's shirt was not a formal shirt suitable for cuff-links and was told that this was normal for children's shirts - I wondered aloud, why provide the cuff-links then... Finally, and most irritating of all, was the exchange about assistant page boy's outfit. Allegedly, the sizing of his body is down to the size of his neck - if he has a 10" collar, he should have a 21" chest! Evidently he did not. I explained that Greenwoods were well aware of his chest size. They provided a well fitting jacket. Their repeated response was that with shirts, the neck size is all that matters. If he is an unusually proportioned child (which he isn't) he should have come in to have a fitting. I tried again to explain that Greenwoods had known his chest size and that this was fundamental to wrapping the shirt round his body. Frustratingly, this concept seemed beyond Greenwoods' managers comprehension: I think he considered a child to be like a sausage and we could just squeeze and manipulate him into the shirt. With no attempt to make any concession, he apportioned the blame for his shirt firmly at our door because we failed to bring him in for fitting, referring to his Disclaimer/Terms and Conditions. I have no recollection of being issued with a copy of the Disclaimer/Terms & Conditions. Irrespective, I did point out that under the Sale of Goods and Services Act (Replaced with Consumer Rights Act) I expected Greenwoods to be competent (to operate with reasonable care and skill) and that they had demonstrably proved that they had not been competent in measuring, in provision of the hired clothes, or in their control of and distribution of their stock. Further, I pointed out that if the Terms and Conditions on which they apparently were relying upon so heavily excluded their duty of care to us, their customer, then they probably comprised unfair contract terms which might be considered illegal. I asked him very firmly and clearly to acknowledge their failings, and, somewhat exasperated by their position, demanded that he make some financial discount from their charges to recompense us. He went off to and (allegedly) telephoned 'Customer Services' at Head Office and returned 15 minutes later, refusing to accept responsibility for Greenwoods' failings or to issue any refund. Clearly we were getting nowhere with this so-called manager (a person without the initiative or power to manage the situation) so I elected to leave, promising the pursue this with both my credit card company and through the courts if necessary. I asked for a copy of the Terms and Conditions and was refused. He took the position that the contract was not with me but with the Groom. He said that the groom had signed the Disclaimer and therefore I should speak to him. I pointed out that the contract was with me, that I had ordered and paid for these goods/services provision so I should be provided with a copy on demand. Again he refused to provide me with a copy. I promised to publicise our experience - hence this review. Since then I have found the many, many other customers' reviews who have almost all experienced similar treatment...Since Greenwoods do not have my signature on their Disclaimer Document or and document accepting their Terms and Conditions, irrespective of the content/wording of their Terms and Conditions (whether or not they are lawful or unlawful, contain unfair contract terms or not) I consider them to be to be irrelevant. I believe that, in any event, I have a right to expect them to behave displaying reasonable care and skill. When ordering clothes for any wedding for a specific date, I believe it is reasonable to expect them to have the ability to accurately measure each wearer (or take the measurements they are given as accurate) and provide clothes to fit the wearer in a reasonable time. When ordering six matching outfits, I expect everybody on the day to be able to wear six matching outfits - not have the Page Boy unable to wear his special cuff-links nor to have his Assistant wear a blue shirt (instead of white). I expect Greenwoods staff to have some appreciation for the make-up of a human body and the fact that a garment must fit the largest part of the body, not that the body must fit the garment. Finally, I expect them to provide this service with a degree of efficiency - not have us running about at the eleventh hour in a panic whilst they sit on their hands. As such I believe Greenwoods to be in breach of the Consumer Rights Act and they are clearly unwilling to offer let alone reach a satisfactory agreement.

“Bloody rubbish”

★☆☆☆☆

written by RosePugh96 on 07/02/2017

I hired three suits from greenwoods, all I can say is that they were absolute rubbish. The suits just fell apart and buttons get falling off. Would I recommend this company to anybody else, the answer is a resounding NO. After paying the deposit to the Grantham branch, they neglected to tell me they were closing down, then after going to Lincoln they virtually called me a liar saying one suit had been collected. Then when they admitted it hadnt, they couldn't find it and when I refused to leave before I saw all the suits together they got extremely funny with me. If your getting married then do your self a favour and go else where to hire.

“Feel second rate”

written by Feelingsleighted on 25/08/2016

We visited to enquire about highland hire for my brother in law, greeted by assistant in very off hand manner and when explaining what we required for him basically he told us it would cost two weeks hire, plus an extra 25-50% to get it in time and that it would probably not fit as he is a strange size and shape. He is a Downs Syndrome young man and was talked down to or over and made to feel uncomfortable and as if everything was too much trouble. He left feeling upset as we all were we would strongly recommend that nobody should use this company.

“Shocking service and after sales support”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Smart270 on 18/05/2016

I feel compelled to write a review following our wedding. The wedding suits that we were supplied with being not cleaned (confetti was found in the pockets) and there were a number of incorrect sizes of suits, despite being measured a number of times. Following the wedding the matter was raised with Greenwoods and they took no responsibility at all. Their response was basically 'tough luck' and 'we think you're lying'! Very very disappointed. I would suggest that others don't use this company!

“Greenwoods metro centre”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 169Bentley on 02/10/2015

Please if you want suits for a wedding don't go to Greenwoods Metro Centre Gateshead. We have hires 7 suits 4 adults and 3 children the adult ones r fine but the children's are shocking with pants that don't fit the 2 year olds look like they have been cut off from the knee to get his leg length so the pants look like flares on him and one of the other children's pants were supposed to of been taken up but they still coved all of his feet. I rang the shop to be told I will get the manager to call you back in the morning bearing in mind the morning is the day before the wedding. The manger did ring to be told that we should of had a final fitting which we did that is how we knew there needed to be changes (idiots). The store was no help and told me to take my complaint to head off but he did say I am trying to be sympathetic with you it's not sympathy I wanted it was for some action to be taken. Head office as much use a chocolate kettle as I kept getting told it your fault and that we accepted the term and condition of the hire I hung up in frustration. Bearing in mind we paid £500 for the hire so the day before the wedding we have no suits for the 3 children we are now having to run round and buy outfits for the children. We got another phone call from head office offing £68 back for one of the suits which I think is an insult so if anyone has any sense stay away from Greenwoods they are happy to take you money but not willing to take responsibility for their mistakes I just wished I had read the reviews before we hired the tat they supply.

“Rip Off Bradford!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by ygWoodard432 on 29/04/2015

ust had a nightmare of an experience with Greenwoods as we have hired 4 suits for our wedding via their 1860 suit hire. First of all we ended up paying £439 for the hire of these suits when we were initially told they would be £95 each. Initial booking/fitting was January 2015. They booked the first and final fitting one week before our wedding day and found that 2 of the trousers didn't fit - according to the staff of the store this is nothing to do with them poorly-measuring the party, they have 'obviously' both put weight on, oh and my partner has also shrunk since the initial measuring 3 months ago. I collected the suits today as my partner was working, to be told by staff I cannot take the suits unless I leave my bank details. I queried this as they should have my partners details as he states they took them from him back in January. They have however taken my details so I could leave with the suits as it's 2 days before we get married. I checked the suits over with my mother when I got home and I am devastated to say the least. To say Greenwoods are supposed to pride themselves on a exceptional quality and services as "appearance counts" these suits are shabby! The waistcoats are frayed, some parts of the material is worn through with 'clicks' in the material, some buttons feel loose, there is loose thread and the stitching on one of the waistcoats is coming loose, you can see where the material has stretched and is pulling away at the stitching. I believe it is reasonable to have a bit of wear and tear on hire suits but to this extent (every suit) is quite appalling. I really think they should be ashamed of themselves if they believe these suits to be good quality for a wedding. It is too late to sort the suits out now but I have stressed this to the head office how disappointed and angry I am that we have paid so much money for shabby looking suits. I also sent pictures and said that if they deduct monies from my account blaming us for the current condition of these suits then I would be taking the matter further as I would deem this to be fraudulent, if they charged us for the poor condition the suits were sent out in. I received a rather abrupt call back from head office stating that they deem my email to them to be 'threatening' and won't accept the content of my email. I was told by them that they will not be held responsible for the suits as my partner didn't notice any of this when he tried them on at what should have been the final fitting. I asked this lady if my partner had chance to check all the suits over to which she stated yes he did. I then proceeded to tell her one of the suits and another shirt had not even been taken out of the plastic wrap, it is still sealed so not sure how he would have managed to check this instore. Funny enough she didn't answer me back on this. This lady told me that as it was a big day for my partner then he should have checked this there and then. Obviously forgetting that my partner is a paying client and he isn't employed and paid to up-keep the reputation of Greenwoods and provide good quality suits. Of course he is to blame for 1860 giving us shabby suits. She also stated that my partner had tried the tie on and that the bobbling was on the back so shouldn't be seen. I never mentioned which tie had the bobbling on, so obviously they are fully aware that the condition of the suits was not up to par prior to them leaving the store. In hindsight, for the money we have paid to hire these charity shop suits, we could have bought some decent suits, in a better condition from M&S or Next. I would urge all those wanting to hire from Greenwoods/1860 to be wary of what they are paying and the condition of the items before they hand over any money.

“suits didnt fit”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Caldewtod on 28/09/2014

After paying over £700 to hire 7 suits, when they arrived 3 days before the wedding 3 of them didn't fit, the shop manager tried to blame us for giving the wrong sizes but as they were the ones who measured us it was their fault, we only wore 4 out of the 7 suits and Greenwoods said we should have read the small print, they have offered a £50 refund which I feel is not enough, I would avoid this company for any kind of suit hire and go elsewhere and receive better service.

“Awful customer service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 159Kendall on 31/08/2014

We ordered 6 wedding suits for hire from the Selby store, which was closed down shortly afterwards and it was easy to see why. We had phoned in advance and made an appointment as it was Saturday. The staff were surly and uncooperative. As apparently we had only booked to look around they seemed horrified that we wanted to make an order and get people measured up because this would take up one staff member and the other couldn't man the desk as she was going home early. The IT system was terribly slow and out of date, this is what took all of the time. We then also had to complete a load more paperwork which was just repetition. We were told the suits would need to be returned on Sunday otherwise we would be fined. This was swiftly retracted when I complained that this was ridiculous since the wedding was on the Saturday the other side of the country. Plus some of the other stores people were collecting from don't even open on a Sunday! It is clear that the stores don't talk to each other or operate on the same systems. Examples being my dad went to get measured up at the Grimsby store and the reference number we'd been given couldn't be linked to an order. They managed to find it through surname but this could pose issues if you have a common surname. My husband also had a panicky phone call from one store because they didn't have all of the suits in, but only one suit was down to be collected from there. At no stage was I (as the noted contact) informed of anything, such as suits being available. Nor was anyone else contacted, we did all the chasing. The fits were generally good but one person got trousers that were way too long. This was a big inconvenience as they had to be reordered which meant another trip to the store. The whole bond issue is a farce. Why do you need to pay a £200 bond when the agreement already includes insurance. I doubt the suits are even worth that much anyway. I could have lived with this if it had been pointed out we would need to have a credit card to be swiped on collection (funds not actually taken unless the suit is damaged). This is in the small print - a full page of tiny A4 print - but something so important should have been mentioned. When people came to collect the suits this came as a shock. Overall very poor and caused lots of stress which you do not need when planning a wedding. We used them due to convenience of location but I would have travelled a bit further to somewhere with good service. If I had read the other reviews on this page then I certainly would have avoided them.

We hired 6 suits for our wedding from greenwoods in lincoln. Not a single suit was correct on arrival... The best mans suit didn't even arrive until 3 days before the wedding and was then still wrong! Every suit was a different shade of grey! Some not even matching as jacket and trousers! We were having to visit the store on a daily basis leading up to the wedding and the groom was left feeling upset and utterly disappointed in what he had to wear on his wedding day. The enough stress before a wedding without the suit hire being so rubbish! Do not use!

“Enter with caution...”

written by growl90 on 01/07/2014

I write on behalf of an elderly gentleman who was made to feel like a fraudster at the Northwich branch of them. He had purchased a shirt which turned out to have a black mark on it. He returned to the branch only to be told that, as a new shirt, it was impossible to have soiling on it. In disgust, he left the shirt with them and walked out. I complained to their HO and asked for an email address for their CEO but they refused to even give his name and informed me that i would have to have dealings with "customer services" - don't you just hate that term ? Stay away at all costs - they don't believe their customers with genuine complaints. They have probably repackaged the shirt and sold it on to some other mug.

“Absolutely Disgusted - Please Avoid at all costs”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 278Houghton on 27/06/2014

1860 / Greenwoods are by far the worst company I have ever dealt with. Please, do not give them a chance as they can't deliver even the basics that you'd expect when it comes to customer service. The staff in the Oldham store are rude, arrogant, unhelpful and dismissive. We ordered 5 suits for our wedding, and they sent us 5 different shades of pink waistcoats. Some were rose pink, some salmon pink - they looked ridiculous and a nothing like the store sample I had used as the basis of my order. I complained and eventually pursuaded the store to order another set of matching waistcoats in the shade I originally wanted, a la the sample in store. This was done despite the store insisting there was no issue, 'pictures aren't taken from the back' and refusing to even acknowledge the differences in colour. I have photos of them side by side and they really are laughable when photographed! These replacements then arrived, and they were wrong again. The store had ordered them in a completely diffent colour, and this was the 4 days before my Wedding. I again complained, and was told to choose a different waistcoat because they couldn't get the correct ones I originally paid for. I then had to compromise on a waistcoat I didn't particularly like, and at no point was I offered an apology for their mistakes, the constant trips to the store at my expense ot the fact that they left me 48hours before my Wedding with no choice but to accept an alternative outfit. I emailed their customer services, who promised me a full invesitigation within 5 working days. They failed to stick to this timescale, and I am still awaiting an outcome. They also gave me a phone number for Santander Bank as their contact number on their response e-mail (seriously!) which basically shows the contempt their customers are treated with. I wish I had time to include all the intricacies and problems I had with the store / company, but it's Friday evening and i'm going home now. To sum up, do NOT give these people your business, judging by the reviews on here i'm not the only one of this opinion.

“Absolutely shocking service!!! ”

written by Luigi247 on 12/02/2014

First of all I'd like to say 1 star is far far too many. When I got to the branch in the metro centre, I was meseaured, told about the price and what date the fitting was. Brilliant, that's easy. Once I got there for the fitting there was different staff members. I put the suit on I was hiring and immediately thought it was too big. The shirt actually touched my knees and hung off past my hands. I was told to tuck it in to my trousers and hide it under the jacket!!! So I did just that... The jacket was far to small so the shirt now hung out of the jackets sleeves and over my hands. The trousers were slightly too long so I was told to pull them up, tighten them and eat loads of food so they don't keep falling down. I asked 3 times to begin sorting out a new suit and the lady never bothered but just kept on going on about the bond. The other staff member, a young lad, said he would change the pants for the next size down, but the lady over powered him and said "no, I'm not arsed about 1/2 an inch". So after I was told about 10 times it looked fine, and not once offered a replacement I was told to continue with the renting of the suit and finilaize the bond. Stupidly I did it, the pure fact I needed in 3 days for an important night for my girlfriend was enough for me to think take it home and have a look on my own. Big mistake! What they forget to tell you is that unless it's 48 hours before the fitting, you can not cancel and get a refund. So 2 days before it's even in store and you've even seen it you have to cancel it and get only half of your money back!! I went back 2 days after the fitting and was told I couldn't get a refund by staff, one guy who threw 2 different sized shirts on the desk infront of me in packages, DID NOT ASK ME TO TRY THEM ON! He then give me a number to take it up with higher office. So I did. A lady rang the store for me and was told from the guy at the store I "refused to try a new shirt on" which was a lie. The lady on the phone them told me that I was basically lying and to seek legal advise! So clearly from the top to the bottom of the company they are out to rip you off, they took the suit and my money and I have nothing to show for it. Go to next, you can buy suits for an extra £10.

“Poor Customer Service!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Tank5464 on 03/09/2013

I ordered six suits for my wedding and not one of them fitted! Examples include trousers too long, waist coats far too short, shirts far too big and the best man's shoes not turning up. I had a final fitting date of 28/08/13 but was later told by the local branch that the suits wouldn't be in until 02/09/13, just five days before the wedding! Customer services have told me that the lack of shoes was down to an IT error and the rush for the correct sized suits was down to me not turning up on the final fitting date specified (28/08/13). I couldn't believe their response!, They didn't even know they had sent the suits five days late! So here I am four days until my big day waiting for five suits to turn up. But according to Greenwoods, it's not their fault! My family and friends now know not to use Greenwoods and I dare say 120 other people on Saturday might think to go elsewhere when looking for a suit.

“All the wrong sizes! Arrgh”

One week before the wedding and the suits are all too big. Don't these people know how to use a tape measure? My son went to try on his outfit and the sales assistant told him it fitted. My son said it was too big and the guy told him not to fasten it! He said he felt more like the Honey Monster as the shoulders were so huge. I could have bought an outfit for my 2 year old grandson - should have... One expects professional service from such an established outfitters - better come good before next week.

“Shocking customer service rochdale branch”

written by cathyo on 15/06/2013

We hired 8 adult suits and 2 childrens suits from greenwoods, all the suits were great apart from my eldest sons pants. He was measured and when he went back for fitting they were 8 inches too long for him! They were sent back to be corrected and arrived back instore 3 days before the wedding, they were still too long for him and so were taken up instore and collected an hour later. On the day of wedding the hem had fallen down before he even walked up the aisle! He was so uncomfortable and constantly pulling them up all day it spoilt our day and looked awful on the photographs. I complained to headoffice who have basically said it was not there fault, so in effect blamed my 8 year old son! When i took the complaint further to the manager of 1860, he basically said the same and it was out of there control! This is truly shocking customer service and needless to say I will be taking this further. Would never use greenwoods again as there customer service is absoloutely disgusting.

“Absolutely shocking !!!!!”

Initial customer service was very good, but then we collected the suits !!!!!( 3 full suits, 5 kids outfits consisting of waistcoats, shirts, rouches )Kids waistcoats had no backs on, despite it being obvious they did not have jackets, which we had not been told about. Shirts all wrong sizes despite being measured in the shop. Tried to resolve difficulties with waistcoats and we were basically told that it was tough ( they did eventually offer to stitch some panels over the big black elastic strip ), so we had to end up with the 2 smallest kids having waistcoats that were too big. We were fooled by how lovely the staff were initailly but then as soon as money handed over that friendly customer servioce vanished. Quality of clothing was very poor ( rouches came off the straps, buttons dropped off waistcoats, worst of all was a small hole in pocket of best mans waistcoat that brides ring slipped into leading to panic as thought it had been lost ) All in all - AWFUL !!!!!

I have to say that the service that i recieved was faboulous!! 5 stars, went into shop and got a warm welcome, i explained that i was getting married in november 2012 what suit i wanted and how i wanted waistcoats.they were very resourcefull i felt well looked after.i then ordered 8 suites, i am amazed how fast the suit were there! final fitting and not one of our soots needed adjustments,PERFECT! one bad thing is they require suites back the day after wedding, i would recoment that if you want to rent a suite then goto ALFRETON GEENWOODS MENSWEAR.very warm atmosphere.not over priced. about £640.00 for 8 suites complete, including insurance. thanks for a great service .REGARDS TEZ

“shocking customer service”

I would warn anyone against using this company for their big day. Our initial visit at the halifax branch was great - very good service and the member of staff knew there stuff. Unfortunatly the next visit to the halifax branch in which another member of staff attended us was the worst and has ultimatly resulted in us getting our deposit back and going elsewhere, it was the most unprofesional experiance I have ever had. The member of staff expected us to tell them what we wanted to try on including having to ask them for shirt to try on, didn't have anywhere near the sizes we needed. We left without two of the 3 people trying suits on. A completly wasted exercise! My partner went in and complained the next day and we were apologised to and told it wouldn't happen again. Fast forward 2 weeks later my family in nottingham visit the arnold branch. After the previous problems we made 100 percent sure this couldn't happen again (at least we thought so) we made 2 phone calls to the arnold branch and had the halifax manager ring and sort out also. We arrived to be greeted by a male member of staff who handed my dad a suit jacket over the counter that was far too small for him and he said so prior to trying on, he was told that was the only size they had. He didn't provide a shirt, waistcoat, trousers so we could actually see what they looked like. We got a feeling for how this was going and cut it short before wasting any more time. Made it known how unprofessional they were and exited the shop. I swiftly rang the halifax branch and demanded my deposit back. I strongly advise you to stay clear of this company as they may be ok on your first fitting but who knows whether u'll actually get your suits for the wedding! Overall joke service in so called reccesion.

I don't know what your problem was with Greenwoods and why you think you are due your deposit back, but if your claim is genuine, fair and reasonable, if you paid on a credit card you can probably use the Section 75 rights or consider the Smal Claims Court. You won't get any joy from the shop staff because (in my experience) as far as they are concerned, its all your's fault - whatever it is!

“Greenwoods Doncaster”

★★★★★

written by on 17/04/2012

Went to Doncaster Greenwoods for my suit hire for my wedding this year and I had the best experience of my life in so much as the customer service, help, suggestions on colours and styles. The prices were great as well nothing was to much trouble, I had people in different towns and they arranged for them to visit a store nearer to there home. Everything turned up 10 days before and only one little change over on a shirt that had a mark on the cuff but they changed it right away. Would recommend this store to anyone. I delt with a couple of people when I visited the store and all were very helpful and knowledgable, nothing to much trouble. Ask for SImon or the manager can't remember his name. John
