“Stay Away!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Giarcza on 23/10/2022

We bought a car from Strood, desperate as we were moving from Germany to UK my wife flew to fetch a car that claimed to have airxon (in the advertisement description) and then they had the cheek to charge their standard £600 servicing fee for the vehicle. A day after getting the car we get a flat Tyre, head to a repair place and get told the tires are shot, four brand new tires later we get told the brake pads are also shot, so £7000+ for a car we had to replace tires and brakes a few days later on....would never recommend my worst enemy to these clowns.

“A dump and I think the salesman has a personality disorder”

written by Rafferty122 on 02/09/2022

My bro and I drove 80 miles to buy a car advertised on Autotrader. Should not have bothered, they tried to sell us a 'car package'..it had 800 miles more than advertised, and the sales guy we spoke to had 0 charisma and wouldn't even entertain any price bargaining/discussion. Messy cramped car lot with unprofessional sales people, trying to sell mis advertised dodgy heaps of junk. Avoid like the plague

“Strood Motor Centre BEWARE Care Package!!!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by JammerSi on 24/11/2021

Firstly, if I could have selected the option for zero stars I would have, please read, this is factual and not a rant. Went there with my partners daughter to look at potentially buying a car. It was a Grey Ford Fiesta 2014 with 38,000 miles MJ64 EKH. When we asked anything about that car the person I dealt with didn't know the answers, such as how many owners, last serviced etc which was odd. I asked if it had had any paint or repairs as I’d already detected it had as nearside rear door had been painted and the rear bumper didn’t align properly and no direct answer was given. In fact at no time did he really try to sell us the car, what he was most interested in was selling the so called 'Care Package'. The care package consisted of replacing a boot floor/carpet and a dash vent that were missing, a service but no detail as to what the service Included and an MOT which the car currently didn't have. We made him aware on several occasions we would not be interested in the care package at all, but he still insisted throughout our conversation that he would continue go sell the virtues of it. At no point did he try to sell us the car, no mention of any features, advantages or benefits of the product we wanted to buy, just of the "Care Package" we said we would want to buy the car but needed to make a few calls to allow my partners daughter to source some extra funds in order to achieve the asking price of £6475, so we said to him, we're popping for a coffee down the road while this happened. He then said he could sell us the care without the care package but we would have to fill in a disclaimer, with that he produced a large sheet with loads of scary small print, to which I said was absolutely fine and we left. 20 mins later, he asked boldly, “so what do you think" we replied we’ve got the cash and would like to buy the car, he looked delighted until we then said without the care package! He then said his colleague has got someone on the phone right now coming to see the car which is really awkward. I said why is it awkward, just call them and tell them its sold, he then went in to say about he can’t have battles with other salesmen, to which I said that was not my concern I was there to buy the car. He then said it’s just not fair to waste the other customers time in coming to see it, but he failed to realise he’d just wasted our entire time, speaking to him on the phone the day before, driving all the way there to view the car and test driving, then spending time on the phone arranging the funds to buy the car. He was talking utter BS! My partner called his bluff at this point and said, so what if we'll take the car and with the care package, of which having a very awkward look on his face he said no, how would we like being messed about. if he had agreed to that it would have proven him a liar, my partners daughter was so noticeably upset and in tears which he totally ignored. He said look, let me help you out, as soon as this other guy has seen the car I will call you back. He called 2 hours later to say the other viewer wanted to buy the car, but he needed to trade-in a car but SMC wasn’t interested in his car. So the good news my partners daughter could buy the car, but she had to buy the care package and if she didn’t he would not sell her the car. Not only that but he gave her 1 hour to respond with her decision. So I will leave it up to you good people to make your own minds up, but I will strongly urge you to read all the reviews available on the interwebs, then you’ll find out what we did and that there are far more skeletons in Strood Motor Centres closet than meets the friendly salesmen’s eye!!! I’m not telling you not to buy from them, I’m just sharpening your senses before you go to view and potentially buy a car from them, so you know what to expect.

“Strood motor company ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Menam on 01/11/2021

I have just got back from visiting Strood Motor Company after seeing a vehicle on Autotrader I was interested in. Once I looked around the car I was then told I would need to pay an extra £150 for the warranty then another £300 for the care package. He said that he will not sell the car to me unless I pay these extra costs because he did not want to the garage to have a bad name if anything goes wrong with the car. Absolutely ridiculous. I do not recommend this garage at all stay clear!!

“Buy a car here at your peril! As previous reviews...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by KinleySpencer173 on 27/01/2017

Buy a car here at your peril! As previous reviews state, they add the warranty cost onto the advertised price and then also insist that you sign to agree to take your car back for it's 6 month service. I (maybe stupidly) thought this was part of the sale deal but they charged me another £50 for the pleasure! If you DO decide to buy from them, keep your fingers crossed that nothing goes wrong with your car! The year's warranty holds no weight at all and they will do anything they can to get out of fixing the problem. I have 7 weeks left of the warranty and I'm STILL waiting for the faulty gear box on my car to be fixed after 3 visits over the past few months. They claim to find no fault and said it needed to go to a Fiat specialist. After being told that the Fiat mechanic wasn't returning their calls I called him myself and got my car booked in for the same week. Funny that!!! I had explained the problem with the car to him and that it was still covered by the warranty. He asked that I left the copy of my warranty in the glove compartment for him. Strood Motor Co did actually take my car there for me and I have now been told that they had removed the warranty and told the mechanic that he didn't need to see it until he had found any faults. As it stands today I am driving around in a dog hair covered "courtesy" car waiting to get my own car back. Strood Motor Company staff are rude, sarcastic and talk down to you with a laugh in their voice! And speaking to the boss doesn't help as he is as rude as the rest of them! I wish that I had read the reviews on here before I bought my car and would now like to warn others of them. Avoid at all costs!!!

“Horrendous experience!!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Donavanj174 on 05/10/2016

Just been to Strood Motor company! Horrendous experience!! The price you see on the website isn't the price!! They make you buy the £300 care package and £150 admin fee! They can't explain what they even are and won't let you buy without! We have driven two hours up here to look at a car that isn't the price we thought it was! Went through the finance for the car and with all my name, bank details etc and then he just got his calculator out to work out if I could get the finance! Everything about the place felt dodgy!! We knew something wasn't right and as we were leaving he said well I've got your details now so we can keep in touch! I didn't want to leave all my personal information there with bank details etc. When I asked for the sheet with all my details on the take away he wasn't friendly at all! Avoid!!

“Beware the hidden charges”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Nelsonvx284 on 20/09/2016

They include two additional charges which are not declared anywhere on their website. There is a £150 admin charge and it is not clear exactly what this is for. Then there is a £300 care package. It is not clear whether the care package is optional or not, but it certainly appears that without the care package you will be left with no warranty.

“BMW 1 SERIES”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Moralesyl208 on 24/06/2016

I purchased a BMW 1 series over a 18 months ago now from this company, wish i had not. Nothing but issues after the 12 months, you name it it has been replaced on the car, now the car has completely packed up, turbo gone, engine now needs a recon, not very good at all. I would not recommend buying a car from Strood Motor Company, bad service and you are also forced to spend £500 on a warrenty and service pack which is useless. TAKE MY ADVICE, STAY WELL CLEAR...

When I said once again I didn't want the warranty he didn't want to sell me the car and questioned if I could afford the car, to which I left.

I planned my Saturday to go and view one of there very reasonable priced cars. The Friday before I thought I will just check the Garage out before I drive over hundred miles . Thankyou everybody who has left a review about this garage because there is no way I would buy a car from this garage with there attitude to customers and after sales. So many reviews cannot be wrong.

“Dangerous, life threatening cars sold here!! ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by TyreeBoyd373 on 21/01/2016

I would like to thank Strood motors for the worst experience of my life! I purchased a Mini Cooper from them with all the money I had. When I left there warning lights came on straight away! Apparently they do MOTs onsite. Which are obviously FAKE! I took my car to a mechanic a week after purchasing and they informed me the engine wasn't attached to the car. In which case if I had reved hard enough the engine would have fell through the car, potentially killing me ! Strood motors said "prove it" . Their reply to me saying they sold me the car this way! As I had warrantee here too they refused to fix it. Said I must of personally removed the bolts from the engine ! Pathetic and ridiculous. I am a young girl and they are willing to risk life's to make a quick buck. It is disgraceful. This place should not be allowed to trade !!!! Please do not buy your car here !!

“They are liars”

★☆☆☆☆

written by KiraYork294 on 29/11/2015

They forced me to buy a warantee £300 and HPI indemnity £150 which was part of the compulsory 'care package' and lied about the full dealership service history. I later found out they sold me the car, took my payment and ithe car had outstanding finance on it. Stay well away, check their claims and ask for proof before driving to that garage.

“CONMEN, UNTRUSTWORTHY, DON'T BUY FROM THESE GUYS”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Jasminey306 on 03/11/2015

I was interested in a car that was only one year old and apparently belonged to the owner of the business. It had apparently been lovingly cherished and he was the only owner. We had almost agreed a sale, when the rude salesman told me I had to pay an additional £550 indemnity insurance. I queried this and was told it was to cover the cost of the warranty. When I pointed out it was still covered by it's manufacturer's warranty, he checked and said yes it would only be an extra £150, this was to confirm there was no finance outstanding, the mileage was correct etc. I said I could HPI check it for a lot less, but he was rude and arrogant, insisting I had to pay this, as they had already paid it. There was nothing stated anywhere on their website about this payment and I was told it was on the invoice. I said this extra cost should be shown up front, as I wasn't likely to see the invoice until the time of payment. He got very rude and angry and just said that is the price of the car, you can either pay it or go away. You can imagine what I chose to do!!

“SHOCKING!!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Mark613 on 27/10/2015

I phoned to ask why a car I wanted is not offered with an MoT, and I was told I have to pay an additional £400 so that they can do it. Who in their right mind would buy a car from this place? When I remarked that plenty places sell cars with a one year MoT, he most arrogantly replied that he has 170 cars to sell and if I want I can go somewhere else. I certainly will!

I have now done a quick cash buy at another garage for the same model where they were polite, helpful, and transparent. Strood's loss!!

“Stay away”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Haglov on 25/10/2015

I travelled from London on the train to look at a car here (so was a fair chunk out of my day) car seemed in okay condition but absolutely covered in Polish/wax,inside and out. We then took it out for a test drive, it seemed okay at first but by the end of the trip there was smoke bellowing for the engine compartment/ warning lights flashing. Obviously this car was not in any condition to sell. I was then told that to get the car up to standard would be an extra £400 and that this was standard policy there. I have issues with this as the screen price should be for a drivable car in good condition unless stated otherwise. It seems like they are doing this just so they can undercut the competition and get customers on the forecourt. Although in reality they are no cheaper than any other dealers, in fact with the £400 add on's they work out more expensive. This business strategy is seriously floored, the screen price should the drive away price. Wasted half of my day - avoid.....

Hi, I wonder if you can confirm what the £400 add ons are? I agree they hide extra costs from the advertised price.

“Cons”

written by 443RossiItalian on 23/08/2015

I got a car from here . A week later it broke down and the engine light come on . I had to replace the battery because it never started. After that the car work but the light was still on . I took it back and they said it's the battery what made the light come on and it's the common fault with the make of the car .we took it in for its mot last week it failed on emissions . The bloke said there is 28 faults wronge with the car. The car had only done 2000 miles since a got it from strood motors. When we got it they said it was service by them which we paid extra for this. The garage has said all this faults have made the engine light to come on ,that's funny strood motors said it's the battery . The garage looked into the car and said it has not had a service it's still got all the same parts what it would of come out the factory with. He said the car did not start or the engine light been on because of the ecu was broken . When strood motors done the mot they must of used a nother car for the emissions test , and just turned the engine light of just to sell it and they must known of this fault

“NEVER BUY HERE!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Wyatth400 on 21/04/2015

I've worked as a Business Sales manager for a number of years in the past and this was genuinely the most shocking display of customer service I've experienced! I called in advance to ask if they still had the particular car I was looking for, which was abruptly confirmed on the phone ...after the 70 mile journey I was greeted by a seemingly friendly salesperson who told me to take my time and look over the car. Once I had spent 5minutes looking at it he sauntered back over and started the most patronising sales patter that came straight out of the 80's. Literally zero questions were asked about what I was looking for in a car or even basic pleasantaries, it was as if he wanted this conversation over as quickly as humanly possible. He kept calling me by the wrong name, which I had to correct him 3 times. At the end of the spiel he refused to let me test drive the car as he irrationally and erroneously didn't believe that I was serious about buying it...I just travelled 70miles?!! He tried to ask me to trust him and that he had already driven it and that it was fine, like I was supposed to say 'oh you've got a point, just have a load of cash, I don't need to see what it drives like'. "We've failed at the first hurdle haven't we?" He exclaimed as he shook his head and walked away from me...I was furious.

“Great service - recommended”

★★★★★

written by Vauxhallbuyer on 17/04/2015

We read the reviews here after viewing a car and then worried! We didn't need to. All was great. Which is why we wanted to add this review. Our experience of Strood? First class. Here's the low-down : Let's start with the adverts. The price advertised can be bumped up (your choice) by £150 or £450 extra if you take the security check or check & warranty. Needless to say the sales pitch kicks in once you start looking. This can make you feel a bit ambushed on the forecourt. (That's nothing new - I got the same treatment in PC World yesterday, buying a laptop). Think about it, do the maths and decide if it's worth it. We opted to take the warranty. Partly because this meant that the vehicle would have a full, independent MOT before they gave it to us, with all the advisories being dealt with as well so that it came with an MOT clean sheet. It would also have a full service. We also did an AA inspection just to be sure. The garage was really supportive of the AA check, and waited for the AA report so that if it turned up anything they'd missed they would fix that as well. AA found nothing the garage hadn't already highlighted.(Still, independent check gave us peace of mind). It was Easter weekend, our AA inspection delayed the fixes and MOT but still the sales guy (Ray) went out of his way to arrange for the car to be MOT'd, serviced, valetted and ready. The car we bought was in great condition, genuine low mileage. We ended up spending more than we thought we might, but the price was cheaper to begin with, so we ended up spending about the right amount anyway. Worth it for peace of mind and great service.
