“Horrible!!!!!”

NEVER get one of these! It's the cheapest most problem prone boiler I have ever seen. The one they put in new build flats because it is cheap, badly installed, impossible to make room for a replacement unless you pay exorbitant prices. It's like they do it on purpose to ruin your life!

“Ideal Icos Isar junk ”

written by Lardy1uk on 15/05/2016

It is well known fact among many in the trade that Ideal certainly dumped a Turkey into the market place with these models shockingly bad imho were do you start with these boilers failing heat exchangers , pcb's , sumps that leak , internal insulation panels that drop off ect On the combi's ideal ditched the conventional hot water flow switch or flow turbine & fitted a temperature sensor that sensed via temp change when a hot tap was opened. that proved so successful that they dropped it on subsequent models They also brought out the shockingly bad (imho) over complicated Ideal Response combi another Turkey (imho) Eventually they got to the stage were they had to buy in some one elses boiler & rebadge it as there own Ideal Mini C = Biasi

Just spent £400 for new mother board, after recently moving in...I spend more time in airing cupboard pressing the reset button than actually in living room. Never had a problem like this with other boilers...Cannot afforded New boiler after paying out this.

Been fighting with BG for 11 years over this disaster! No more than 2 months goes by without having and engineer to come out and fix it. Been waiting 11 years for a new kitchen which has not been possible due to big leaks and downpours from boiler. Have given up and getting a Worcester fitted next week. Better take out a homecare plan on this dud.

“Terrible, broke down twice in 9 months”

★☆☆☆☆

written by shanajackson on 19/01/2016

we moved into our house two years ago and the combi boiler has broken three times in that period. Ok it is around 10 years old, but the plumber who fixed it has said the parts are like chocolate very easy to break, very unreliable. Anyway, we have spent over £200 fixing it. We are now saving for a new one with a better reputation worchester or vaillant. Anyway, my advice is to avoid this boiler at all costs

“Not ideal”

Worst boiler ever, now on its 3rd pub and probably cost at least 3 times the purchase price in repairs despite being serviced every year plumbers love this product as it keeps them very busy, don't waste your money.

“Not Ideal”

★☆☆☆☆

written by sam666 on 08/11/2015

The boiler came with our new house and for the first 3 years didn't have any problems until last year when had to replace the pcb that cost me 70gbp so not bad at all and installing it was very easy. Yesterday, so about 16months later, the boiler stopped working. Ordering a new pcb hoping that it'll fix the problem. At the moment cannot afford to buy a new boiler so will have to survive somehow the winter and start saving up for a new boiler. It's a waste of time and money. Don't even consider buying this pile of rubbish unless you have a lot of spare time and money to fix it.

“A very neet compact boiler but has some drawbacks.”

★★★★☆

written by on 25/04/2014

I have had the ISAR HE for about 2 years now and although I have had to buy and fit a new PCB within the guarantee, the boiler itself has performed quite well. The downside is, I have a fault, in that it is wasting Water and Gas. I will explain. Last year to save money we had a water metre fitted, with our eye's firmly on the usage and cost's. However when we have the heating running in the cold weather It will waste unto 3 gallons of water till it reaches temperature. This is because of the very slow operation of the change over actuator. I even tried fitting a new one of these also. I am a retired installer and I do understand how these things work. If there is a mod: out there now that I could fix, please let me know. The whole point of having the boiler change in the first place was to economize. I wish I could have my Myson Midas back. Regards Alan Sutton

After sources our new boiler from a well know supplier every thing started to go wrong with it. New control board, heat exchanger and lots of other faults and parts. Having problems for past 2 months now insurance cover dosn't cover the fault as they say its the water at fault. Willing to scrap it at any cost and start again.

Agreement about the terrible review above...Worse mistake to have our immersion water heating removed and have it replaced with this bag of sh.t!Problems from the word go...now left with no heating no hot water and no means of getting a replacement since this was through a government heating scheme...Single mum and will have a 3rd cold winter with no heating or hot water....

“IDEL ISAR AVOID AT ALL COST !!!!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 02/07/2013

After 11 years and on average call out of British Gas at least 3 times a year, we have had it removed , every engineer without exception has said what a load of rubbish they are!! The last straw with us was a major water leak from within pile of junk causing major damage to wall and ceilings, The Idiot at BG call centre asked for policy number even after answering Hello Mr Faithorn , sorry to say the F word came out as I was trying to contain the water. JUST DON'T BUY ANY IDEAL BOILER !!!!

had an isar 30 fitted by Warmfront over 4 years ago , i have lost count of the breakdowns . when the warranty ran out we took out cover care with British gas . good job we did now we are having problems with the water keeps running cold , British gas must have replaced every part in the boiler but they still have not fix it . on the last visit we was told we needed a power flush which would cost £600 . well i flushed every radiator myself , but it didnt make much difference, now after reading all these revues i think what the engineer advised was a load of rubbish . its just a rubbish boiler i would not advised anyone to buy this load of rubbish

“RUBBISH !!!!!!”

written by on 09/04/2013

We had a ideal isar installed by a government grant ,warmfront installation . They threw them in !.What did I expect for a freebee . The boiler broke down two to three times a year . It was a good job I took out an insurance and I bet they were upset that they insured me, good old swinton .£7 a month . It covers boiler, drains, locks, windows, roof, check it out everyone no excess ect ect, but you have to service your boiler once a year, ideal boiler marks out of ten F,ALL , minus zero.!

I agree, what a total pile of kak ! And British 'rip off' gas actually fit these things !
I had to change the aav on one recently,it's right in the back corner and you have to strip half the boiler down to get to it ! Such a bad design of boiler in every way, give me Vaillant quality any day.

“Shame on British Gas”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 20/01/2013

This boiler , the Ideal Isar, was recommended and installed by by British Gas. My husband and I were pensioners when we signed up for the credit agreement. If We had only been told that it would cost us over twice the £6000 installation charges we would never have signed on the dotted line. My husband died in December 2010 and we had already paid out £6000+ with another 5 years to go.After a further year of struggling the debt got out of my control and for several months I received letters threatening court action, etc, from the designated credit company. In the end my daughter paid off an agreed settlement figure of over £1000.Prior to that she had taken out a Homecare cover for my boiler because of the amount of times it had gone wrong. My previous Homecare cover I had to cancel after my husbands death since I could not afford it. Today I have freezing cold weather and inches of snow, and a dead boiler once again. British gas are indirectly responsible I feel and should be culpable.

“2 faults a year for 5 years and now condemned”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 13/01/2013

If you want to waste lots of your life waiting for British Gas Engineers (who I still believe to this day are culpable for this over priced rubbish installation), then go for this boiler. The only reason this boiler gets one star is there is no option for zero stars. Electrical failures, leaks, mechanical parts breaking down. There was nothing left to try and fix so it's now condemned. Thanks Ideal and thanks British Gas. You are both a waste of space and have cost us time, effort and introduced a great deal of stress in a family's life. Disgraceful.

“Rubbish!!!!!”

written by CathyF on 24/12/2012

What a pile of rubbish. Recommended by Beitish Gas 7 years ago and fitted by them, nothing but trouble since. It has now got so bad that our home breakdown company have told us they won't come out to it any more after coming out to it six times in about 18 months (twice in two weeks).

“Unreliable heap of trash”

★☆☆☆☆

written by chrissie2 on 19/12/2012

Had this installed under the warmfront scheme in 2007. Nothing but trouble from the start. Each time it broke down warmfront took up to 2 weeks to repair, so I insured with british gas and I get an excellent service. I have called them out at least five times this year, lost count of the number of visits from subsequent years. If I could afford to replace it I would.

“Avoid ideal boilers at all costs”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 27/11/2012

Had an ideal isar for 5years and must call the service engineer out at least 3-4 times a year .its a pile of rubbish so avoid at all costs.Thankfully I'm covered on a maintenance contract or it would have cost me thousands !! I think it's probably had all the parts replaced at least 4 times by now .whats also annoying is the amount if days off you need to have from work . Enough said !

Had an Ideal Isar Boiler for 7 years now and have had at least 3/4 major problems eash year. The boiler has now had all parts replaced. Latest incident is the pump has melted following boiler overheating. Engineer has attempted to blame contractors who have recently fitted new bathroom and had to empty sytem. Ideal Boiler Maintenance have actually advised to the contrary and says boiler should have cut out. Can anybody confirm which information is correct
