Despite being fully comp with high excess we were told that we couldn't have a courtesy car unless we paid for it. Result - no family car for a week. We had to do all the running communication wise. Will not renew with them, better off with Churchill- a company that cares about their customers.

Following a bad accident on ice that wrote off my vehicle Direct Line has been appalling in its failure to communicate with me. e.g. unfulfilled promises that a representative would phone me, ignoring my mail, dilatory follow up when I ring and finally offering me below market price.

I was hospitalised after a serious car accident. Direct Line were very sympathetic and sent an engineer to view the car within a few days. They phoned me with an offer for the car which was a total loss. I only had to sign a form to say accepted the offer; there was no other paperwork.

Direct Line Car Insurance are a really good company, I also get discounts off of my home, breakdown and travel insurance which is a bonus. Really pleased with the service and attitude, it makes me feel like a valued customer.

I rang at least 20 insurance agencies, Direct Line kept coming up far cheaper than others. www.tesco.com almost matched them, but not quite.
