“Shocking. Absolutely shocking”

Written on: 07/10/2013 by Witchary (1 review written)

Neither of the cars we booked and paid in advance for were in available on arrival in RSA or Namibia. The first vehicle in the Namibia, which we waited over an hour for, wasn't even vaguely roadworthy let alone safe for Namibian roads. We waited another hour for a replacement vehicle, still not what we booked or paid for and missed our first night in Etosha as the delays meant we missed the closing time for the camp gates. Thrifty - Costing you time. Costing you money. EFS… Read Full Review

“Completely ripped us off”

Written on: 30/09/2013 by kj693 (1 review written)

After renting a van for the day to move all of my furniture, when I took it back, a gentleman who worked there noticed a scuff mark the size of a 5p coin on the van. I totally understand that I was responsible for the scuff and expected them to deduct the cost from our £450 deposit but they took the opportunity to completely and utterly rip us off and charged us £250 for the tiny miniscule scuff. Completely unreasonable and unnecessary. Will never use them again… Read Full Review

“Heathrow London - beware of them adding damage to...”

Written on: 27/09/2013

Heathrow London - beware of them adding damage to your check out report after you've signed off. Without any warning I got emailed to say £500 is being debited owing to damage I was neither aware or made aware about on check out. Awful customer service, horrible company. Never, ever again! PS make sure you get them to write "NO DAMAGE" on the check in forms, rather than just blank like mine… Read Full Review

Bemason's Comment

Written on: 09/10/2013

Same thing has just happened to us. We hired a car in August for one week. They were extremely busy when we returned the car to Heathrow and my husband didn't get them to check the car, they just parked it and said it was fine. We have now received an email to say that they was a slash to the tyre? They want over 300 pounds for the damage and worryingly staff seemed to have forged my husbands signature on the hire form to sign for the damage. If there had have been damaged we had already taken out a policy to cover the excess so it would have cost us nothing. They may be cheap compared to other hire companies but we will NEVER use them again.

“Dont go there!”

Written on: 26/09/2013 by tomschultz1 (1 review written)

WARNING! I rented a car here for two weeks, paying 358 USD. I rented the car via my business travel agency back home in Sweden where I rent all my cars around the world. Ticked in every box so that it would be NO MORE EXTRA FEES (as I do with other companies as Alamo, Budget, Avis, Hertz etc and theres never a problem). Left the car back after two weeks at Thrifty and today I received a bill of 150 USD where they charge me for something called "tripsaver" + other mumbo jumbo fees and taxes… Read Full Review

“Oplichters!!!”

Written on: 26/09/2013 by ries (1 review written)

Read Full Review

“IF I COULD I WOULD GIVE NO STARS! AVOID AVOID AVOID!”

Written on: 24/09/2013

Our company needed to rent a car for 1 day on short notice. Our sales person’s car broke down in the morning, and he had a business meeting to get to urgently, 60 miles away. As we are based in Northamptonshire, Thrifty on the Moulton Park Industrial Estate was close. We were told that we needed a utility bill, 2 part driving licence and a bank statement of the paying card. All of these had to be no older than 8 weeks! We rushed back, printed the statements online – because nowadays NO… Read Full Review

“WOW!”

Written on: 10/09/2013 by antbyrne88 (1 review written)

I was reluctant when I first sore the prices and some of these reviews but took my chance anyway. £41 if I pre-booked a BMW 320d or similar which compared to other local rental firms was extremely cheap (£80less than most) and £10 cheaper than an Enterprise Astra. I turned up on the day and was greeted politely by a member of staff took me through all the addons and I opted for the £0 excess for £18. All was going well, took me over to a car and it was a 4 week old BMW 320d with all the… Read Full Review

“NEVER AGAIN ”

Written on: 07/09/2013 by Onassis (1 review written)

Don't waste your money and your time with Thriffty. They're rude, cheaters and no customer care at all. Been there twice (Thriffty in NYC atthe JFK airport and in Killeen, TX). The first time thought was just a rude employee but I was wrong, they're all rude and unprofessional, all they want it's your money and no responsibility. You think they're cheap so you can save money but it's not true… Read Full Review

“Overcharged”

Written on: 14/08/2013

Until now I've happily hired cars from Thrifty; not anymore. The shuttle buses from Heathrow Airport to Thrifty ended before my scheduled time to pick-up the vehicle. No signage was present to advise when the last departure was so I wasted time waiting for nothing. Then upon taking a taxi to Thrifty I was charged a late pick-up after phone ahead to enquire where the buses were. To top it off the car was returned on time and yet again the shuttle buses ended before Thrifty closed for the day… Read Full Review

“Rip off”

Written on: 06/08/2013 by London1985 (1 review written)

I gave the car back on a Monday with a little damage to the bumper which I pointed out to the thrifty employee. He said the damage would be check and I would be contacted with a price. Instead, what actually happened is that thrifty proceeded to take money from my bank account over 3 days to the total of £900 with absolutely no warning. When questioned I was told that that's just how much the damage came to and I would receive an invoice in the post. He also lied and said he had tried to call… Read Full Review

“website booking times don't reflect actuality”

Written on: 01/08/2013 by gilliefish (1 review written)

You can only have a car or van until the branch you return it to NOT the time you book and pay for. “Thrifty Warsaw : never again !”

Written on: 30/07/2013 by shoebaloo (1 review written)

We booked a car in Warsaw from UK through internet and confirmed by phone. The guy on the phone didn't seem very profesionnal and couldn't answer our question regarding the insurance. Once in Warsaw, we had appointment at 10. A.M. to pick up the car. We've been said that we'll found them in front of Novotel. We arrived earlier, spent a lot of time trying to find their office all around. We phoned them and we've been answered to wait in Novotel as they were coming soon. At 10.30, after 1/2 Hr… Read Full Review

“Thrifty is ok”

Written on: 20/07/2013 by Paperback (1 review written)

Rent a car at Keflavik Airport/ Iceland. Brand new car, Mazda 3. Because of too many negative reviews of all the car rental company's at Iceland I checked the car very precisely. We found one scratch. Friendly stafff at the counter. Some questions about additional insurances, like I expected, but it wasn't annoying. When we returned the car I demand a signed paper that confirmed that the car was ok, just like I have signed when I got the car two weeks ago. They couldn't give me one because the… Read Full Review

“Heathrow t5- terrible location, shuttle service even...”

Written on: 18/07/2013 by Cowbiscuits (1 review written)

Ok so we knew when we booked that the pick up at Heathrow T5 was off site but didn't realize just how off site. It is run from the tatty old Sheraton (not the Skyline, the other one). The shuttle service is supposed to run every 30 minutes which really isn't often enough anyway however when we were waiting it was 50 minutes which no one wants after a long flight. The driver was surly to boot. The rental office is up a flight of steps or a long ramp so if like us you have several cases and kids… Read Full Review
