“Easy and nice to deal with”

Written on: 03/12/2013 by oliviacooper (6 reviews written)

Having had our car hire with Easirent (booked through Argus / cartrawler) cancelled and not refunded, we had to hire a car on the spot at Edinburgh airport. Thrifty could not have been more helpful. OK, it was a lot more expensive than booking in advance, but there we no additional extras - insurance excess etc all included, petrol full just return full. Very easy and pleasant to deal with, would definitely recommend… Read Full Review

“Good service, good review”

Written on: 25/11/2013

I always have a worry about car rentals bacause of its bad reviews. Nevertheless, I have good experiences from Italy, Spain to Portugal, and now with the UK, Reading Thrifty office. I've booked an economy Fiat 500 for 2 days in very good price. I've paid walk-away insurance and GPS as extras. I forgot to take myself the flight ticket, but we can solve the problem on the spot. They charged me by 150 pounds as deposit. The car only covered 4000 miles, it looks like and clear like a new one… Read Full Review

“Avoid Thrifty Chelmsford Branch. Better, avoid them all”

Written on: 22/11/2013 by prontodave (1 review written)

I wrote the following complaint one week ago to Thrifty UK through their website. They have not even bothered to respond: I'm sure it is important for you to understand why a customer uses your service once and then never returns. I'd like to explain why I shall not be using Thrifty again. I hired a car from your Chelmsford branch yesterday, I was asked to produce a utility bill and credit card statement in addition to the usual drivers licence and credit card. I forgot the credit card… Read Full Review

Written on: 20/11/2013 by Knighty5 (1 review written)

Rented a car in USA, shattered after long flight, had prepaid in uk, told there desk at Sanford intl, no extras wanted, they assured me that there were no extra charges, 2 weeks later after arriving home, I find £64 taking on card, I complain and get sent a copy of signature agreeing to trips aver, I made many signatures there as they were saying just declining extras, absolute unfair, car trawler who look at complaint are complete waste of time… Read Full Review

“Watch out for the extras”

Written on: 17/11/2013

You get off a plane late at night all you want is to get your car and get to a hotel. The thrifty staff are fully aware of this and make sure you pay for it big time. Everything is sign for electronically now so not easy to see what you are paying for. Having to pay almost £90 for 2 weeks breakdown assistance really is taking the XXXX, I don't pay this for a full year back home. And why should I be paying for breakdown on their car!. Over £40 for tolls were also included, they didn't tell me… Read Full Review

“Don't rent Thrifty”

Written on: 12/11/2013

We rent a car from Thrifty in Tel Aviv. The car was filthy dirty, made a worrying grinding noise in the wheel, and the radio didn't work. We reported this to them and they did nothing about it. We returned the car to them 2 hours late because their brochure sad the branch was in Hertzilia when it was actually in Hertzilia Petluach. The branch didn't even have a sign outside it and was hidden down an alley. They then charged us a full extra day, were extremely rude and didn't ca that the car had… Read Full Review

“Complete Lack of Customer Service”

Written on: 26/10/2013

I hired a car from Thrifty whilst I was travelling in South Africa. The car broke down 200km from the nearest town. I phoned the helpline number on my copy of the contract and was told that I was too far away from their nearest branch and therefore I would have to make my own arrangements to get the car repaired. Not only that but I was also told they were not prepared to meet the cost of the repair as their cars do not just break down and so I must have done something wrong. They simply… Read Full Review

“BAD SERVICE”

Written on: 18/10/2013

Went in with the person who hired the car. There were others in front of us to be served. Well the way they spoke and served them it was disgusting bad manners they know how to deal with that it must be the way they were trained. Even when the manageress came out she was a very bad tempered person who in my opinion does known or ever heard of a charm school which she should go to weather she had a bad day but she shouldn't take it out on customer. Although I didn't hirer a car myself I would… Read Full Review

“Rip Off”

Written on: 16/10/2013 by MilesDunnet (2 reviews written)

DO NOT USE THESE GUYS. I specifically, specifically asked the girl at the Thrifty counter (San Fran airport) for absolutely no extras. Only after I'd had the car for a while did I realize she'd tagged a 'Tripsaver' (roadside assistance) fee onto my bill. At $7.99 a day, for the 27 days I had the car, it came to a whopping $322. It's just downright, in-your-face dishonest to do this without asking me… Read Full Review

“Great value and service!”

Written on: 10/10/2013 by PeeJayEn (1 review written)

We live in the UK and have been holidaying in Florida once or twice a year for 24 years. We generally book our rental vehicle through Holiday Autos, who I have always found to be great value compared to other companies. They have previously provided us with vehicles from Alamo and Dollar and other than the long lines at the rental counter we have been happy with the service. For our holiday starting Sep 27th 2013 we were provided with a voucher for Thrifty and when I read the reviews on this… Read Full Review

“Hidden fees, bad service and inconvenient”

Written on: 10/10/2013

I'm a frequent business rental car user and have booked hundreds of times with all of the major companies over the last 8-9 years. I recently booked a car for two weeks from Dublin airport on Travelocity with a guaranteed rate of about 140 Euros (a good rate by the way). I always waive the insurance on rental cars since I have private insurance that covers this. At the kiosk I discovered that they charge a 28 Euro administrative fee to waive insurance plus block 2K on the credit card. I… Read Full Review

Written on: 09/10/2013

We hired a car in August for one week. They were extremely busy when we returned the car to Heathrow and my husband didn't get them to check the car (we were rushing to get to the airport), they just parked it and said it was fine. We have now received an email to say that they was a slash to the tyre? They want over 300 pounds for the damage and worryingly staff seemed to have forged my husbands signature on the hire form to sign for the damage (my husband didn't sign when he returned the… Read Full Review

“Shocking. Absolutely shocking”

Written on: 07/10/2013 by Witchary (1 review written)

Neither of the cars we booked and paid in advance for were in available on arrival in RSA or Namibia. The first vehicle in the Namibia, which we waited over an hour for, wasn't even vaguely roadworthy let alone safe for Namibian roads. We waited another hour for a replacement vehicle, still not what we booked or paid for and missed our first night in Etosha as the delays meant we missed the closing time for the camp gates. Thrifty - Costing you time. Costing you money. EFS… Read Full Review

“Completely ripped us off”

Written on: 30/09/2013 by kj693 (1 review written)

After renting a van for the day to move all of my furniture, when I took it back, a gentleman who worked there noticed a scuff mark the size of a 5p coin on the van. I totally understand that I was responsible for the scuff and expected them to deduct the cost from our £450 deposit but they took the opportunity to completely and utterly rip us off and charged us £250 for the tiny miniscule scuff. Completely unreasonable and unnecessary. Will never use them again… Read Full Review

“Heathrow London - beware of them adding damage to...”

Written on: 27/09/2013

Heathrow London - beware of them adding damage to your check out report after you've signed off. Without any warning I got emailed to say £500 is being debited owing to damage I was neither aware or made aware about on check out. Awful customer service, horrible company. Never, ever again! PS make sure you get them to write "NO DAMAGE" on the check in forms, rather than just blank like mine… Read Full Review

Same thing has just happened to us. We hired a car in August for one week. They were extremely busy when we returned the car to Heathrow and my husband didn't get them to check the car, they just parked it and said it was fine. We have now received an email to say that they was a slash to the tyre? They want over 300 pounds for the damage and worryingly staff seemed to have forged my husbands signature on the hire form to sign for the damage. If there had have been damaged we had already taken out a policy to cover the excess so it would have cost us nothing. They may be cheap compared to other hire companies but we will NEVER use them again.

“Dont go there!”

Written on: 26/09/2013 by tomschultz1 (1 review written)

WARNING! I rented a car here for two weeks, paying 358 USD. I rented the car via my business travel agency back home in Sweden where I rent all my cars around the world. Ticked in every box so that it would be NO MORE EXTRA FEES (as I do with other companies as Alamo, Budget, Avis, Hertz etc and theres never a problem). Left the car back after two weeks at Thrifty and today I received a bill of 150 USD where they charge me for something called "tripsaver" + other mumbo jumbo fees and taxes… Read Full Review
