“I recently purchased a full system in component form...”

Written on: 28/06/2002 by Spike. (1 review written)

I recently purchased a full system in component form from eBuyer.

The first major stumbling block was trying to select items which were in stock. Although reported as being in stock on the website, within a couple of hours of placing the order i received an email telling me that a number of items were not in stock. OK, this is viable once, but it took me four attempts to piece together a set of components that actually were in stock.

Once the order had been placed, i eagerly awaited delivery… Read Full Review

Written on: 08/06/2002 by Simon. (1 review written)

I'm fortunate not to have experienced many problems with ebuyer. I'm sure this is not a representative sample of opinions.

I have made about 7 orders from ebuyer and have been very impressed with all of them. I had a problem with a motherboard and although it does take a while for an exchange they do process them very quickly one the RMA is started.

The website has just been updated and is great to use, very user friendly.

They also have great prices, i challenge anybody to find a better… Read Full Review

Ink sprayed inside "new" printers
Reconditioned speakers sold as brand new (even came with a "reconditioned product" sticker on

“A few months back I ordered some parts from e-buyer. ”

Written on: 20/05/2002 by mark. (1 review written)

A few months back I ordered some parts from e-buyer.
Despite the fact that everything I ordered was in stock, the first time I placed an order I recieved an e-mail a day later telling me somethig was out of stock so they would hold back the order, I canceled and tried again, this happened twice.
At last my order was accepted, and now desperate I payed for next day delivery (an extra £10), so nearly a week later I was a bit upset.
I eventually got through(after quarter of an hour) to

E-buyer, you either love them or hate them, well i love them. I have used them now on 7 or 8 occasion and have never had any major problems. The first item i ordered was a hard drive everything went through then i got an e-mail to say that it was out of stock, i phoned them waited in a queue for about 15 minutes at least they did tell you how many people were a head of you. Eventually got through to a woman, explained the situation and asked if i could change the order. Yes was the reply. I… Read Full Review

Written on: 07/05/2002 by citysleuth. (1 review written)

I have tried on several occasions to buy goods from eBuyer, each time without success. In the latest episode they sent an email flyer out advertising a US Robotics broadband router/firewall for only £93 inc VAT. When I tried to buy it from their site the price came up as over £120 inc VAT. I then spent the usual age of time trying to phone them to query the price. Eventually they agreed to let me have it at the advertised price - as the flyer didn't show an offer expiry date.

After cancelling… Read Full Review

Written on: 30/04/2002 by Nick P. (1 review written)

In January I ordered a new motherboard, memory, Duron 900 processor and fan which all arrived OK. I put them into my PC and added my old 56k modem but every time I got online the PC crashed. So, I phoned Ebuyer and got put on hold for 15 minutes. When I finally got thru and explained the problem, I was told 'Go online and use the Online Returns page.
So I (again) told them that the problem was that I couldn't get online, they just said 'Not our problem.'
I then checked newsgroups and found I… Read Full Review

I ordered a full system in component form. On boot up no signal from motherboard. After 3 attempts on the phone and a huge bill i got through to a female who was, to say the least, unhelpful. She then put me through to the technical support dept(?) where i spoke to a person who said that 'this is what you get shopping mail order, cheap prices but not the best service'. I have returned the motherboard, chip and memory stick 2 weeks ago and so far no news or contact from ebuyer.

Written on: 23/04/2002 by Jammi. (1 review written)

I'd advise you all: DO NOT USE EBUYER. Simple as that. Their site is nice and quite reasonable, but contacting the company is very hard, especially when they disallow you access to their site. I wish to return a product, and am owed a chance to do so. The company is a joke, especially when compared to other excellent sites such as SMC, Dabs, or the great CCL computers, whose after sales care is awesome… Read Full Review

I am not sure if they can bar you from their site?? but if they can they it can only be because you were being abusive, if i am wrong then i apologise but i, like many others, have used ebuyer on numerous occasions without any problems even when i have sent faulty equipment back, you do realise that order equipment accidentally then sending it back encurs a 25% re-stocking fee? Maybe you were upset about this.

Written on: 23/04/2002 by CHR15. (1 review written)

I've used Ebuyer over 50 times, mainly for building PC's. I've found them quick on delivery with the majority of orders arriving within the 3 day window. I have had defective items which have been returned to Ebuyer. I agree this could be quicker and for the casual shopper who only orders one or two things this can seem unsatisfactory. When I build a PC, if something doesn't work (DOA) it is quicker to order a replacement and go through the returns policy in slow time afterwards. Im quite happy… Read Full Review

I have bought a number of things from online merchant E.Buyer now. Only one component I have bought has had a problem, and that was more because the memory wasn't compatible with my motherboard than because the components were of low quality. When I reported this problem to E.Buyer (by e.mail), they responded within about 20 minutes providing a returns authorisation code and offering a full refund (which they very promptly provided about two days afterwards), I have every reason to recommend… Read Full Review

In what way have they used your credit card??? If it was because you sent something back to them to be tested as faulty and was found not to have a fault, e-buyer do say that they will debit the credit card that was used to make the original purchase for the cost of postage back to you. If this card has been cancelled then they will hold onto the goods until payment of postage has been paid.

Yep, they`ve took money from me without authorisation too. I can see this company disapearing one night and owing thousands of customers millions. This company might have a fancy website, but its got some seriously illegal consumer practices going on. Practices I`m seeing them in court about later this year.

“I recently wanted to return a purchase to...”

Written on: 26/03/2002 by Simon Witter. (1 review written)

I recently wanted to return a purchase to www.ebuyer.com that was unsatisfactory. So I call the customer support number. I was directed to use the "returns online" function of the web site. This does not take into account items that are not actually faulty, after all you can't tell when buying online if a product is any good. So I retry the phone number. Eventually I get "you are in a queue, there are x number of calls ahead of you" (just substitute x with the largest number you can think of… Read Full Review

I sympathise completely with your experience. I recently had my criticism published in Internet Advisor and Ebuyer's response, which was published in the article, may surprise you as much as it did me! I quote:
<br>
<br>"Ebuyer usually collects the incorrectly supplied item or offers to reimburse the postage cost upon receipt of the goods and a bill of postage"
<br>
<br>This is either a lie or its Ebuyer's best kept secret! I now shop around and on every occasion, so far, I have found somewhere cheaper for everything I have bought and have received excellent service. Each time I've also had the added satisfaction of knowing that Ebuyer have missed out on another sale.

Six months on from my initial dissapointment with ebuyer I was begining to mellow and even consider using them again. (They did eventually give me a full refund but only after I threatened legal action). Your post has re-galvanised my feelings and reassured me that mine wasn't an isolated incident.

I`m sorry but Ebuyer is a farce of a company who is using whatever illegal means it can to rip people off plain and simple. They have no customer service, they sell products incorrectly advertised and their returns service is a sham. I`m currently going through legal channels and hope to see them in court this year myself.
<br>
<br>I wouldn`t recommend anyone uses them.

Written on: 23/05/2002

Sorry mate but i have to disagree with mmost of what you say about this company. I mean firstly lets take your idea of not being able to tell if a product bought online is any good or not. Well try reading reviews about the product, go to the manufacturers website i recently bought a monitor from e-buyer didn't know anything about the monitor so i looked at the manufacuters website to make sure it did what i wanted it to do, then checked reviews on it.
<br>
<br>Next you say that when sending something back they don't cater for products that aren't faulty. Sorry but you are wrong they have 5 or 6 options one of which is ITEM NOT REQUIRED
<br>
<br>You then complain that you have to pay the cost of postage back well excuse me do you really think that they are going to pay for you to send an item back just because you don't want it, i don't think so also you complain about a charge for re-stocking well i believe this is standard and they can't re-sell the item as new because it has been opened also i find your ideas that a company should take back a product that you bought because you don't like ridiculous can you see one of the major high street shops refunding the full value of the product because you say you don't like it. I don't, maybe because it's an internet company and you don't speak to them face to face you think you can get away with anything.
<br>
<br>I do agree that you can sometimes have to wait a while when you phone them but at least they do tell you how many people are queued ahead of you.
<br>
<br>As for Mr Angry's comment yes i believe that they will pick up or refund the cost of posting for items incorrectly supplied, but this is when ebuyer may send the wrong item to a customer then yes they will collect or refund the cost of postage. As for finding every item that he wants cheaper else where then we only have his word for that and at least i have the knowledge that he is the one losing out on good prices as i can find some items cheaper but certainly not all cheaper than e-buyer

If you are looking at the page where it says received tested etc, on it then they don't fill that in until it is received by the tester. The page previous to that at the bottom will have a bit that says: 'boxes received'.
