My mother fell while visiting me in Monaco and required a hip replacem)ent in The Princess Grace Hospital. First Assist took over absolutely everything and were friendly, professional and very knowledgeable. Took out anual insurance 2 weeks ago detailing all our medical conditions. Rang today to tell them I had cellulitis returned and they've charged another £58. I thought anual insurance would cover anything for the next year. Apparently not, if you develope an illness you are requested to inform them, and then they increase the premium. What's the point? I had a kidney removed due to cancer 2 years ago. I then had bladder cancer, always a risk under such circustances, but this has been eliminated over time without the need for radoitherapy or chemotherapy. I take no drugs of any kind and I am now 100% clear of cancer. At 70 I am as fit as a fiddle, nothing wrong in any respect. I go hill walking and some climbing, and am still working. I now know why it's called SAGA as any dealings with the company are a saga! I'm just over 50 and well used to IT technology but even I find any dealing with this company a complete nightmare. They use excuse after excuse and delaying tactics at every encounter. How many older people ever manage to access their policy documents through the complicated email and weblinks. I have a very dear friend who sadly has recently lost her husband. A wise man who took out insurance with saga for two cruises they had booked for this year. He recently passed away suddenly from a heart attack, for a 90 year old not such an unusual thing, but when his widow , herself 86 years old has tried to make a claim on this, very expensive policy, saga are attempting to wriggle out of paying compensation, claiming "an undisclosed medical condition!" I took out Saga insurance last April. Rang them in August as i dropped my laptop and it broke. Was told i wasnt covered as I didnt have extended warranty and portable electricals are not covered, so I swallowed this. Rang again in March this year as I lost my watch on holiday and again they said you are not covered as you dont have cover away from the home. I just bought Saga insurance online, when they emailed the policy documents their website would not let me access them, crucial as I leave in 2 days and won't be home to collect post before I go. Instead it gave 0845 nos to ring. I rang and complained about lack of website access. We have used SAGA over the last few years for single trip cover but this year we are going to Europe a few times and thought we get an annual trip cover quote. However, I have a proven aortic valve which is leaky and my husband had a stent fitted two years ago in his heart. Neither of these problems require follow up and both of us are deemed fit and healthy. However, we were refused annual cover and quoted a stupid amount for single trip insurance. Very simple, Gatwick closed due to the snow, told by airport not to travel, printed it ll out. Phoned Saga who said it would only accept claim if we had booked in. Told them we had booked in 24 hrs before departure on-line. Had boarding passes etc. Saga then said that they would not accept on-line book in. We had to go to airport. This is my first time with Saga Travel Insurance and my last. Was stranded in Gatwick last week,spent most of the day trying to get my ticket sorted to get to Glasgow.In the end got a tranfer from London City Airport and to Glasgow at 8pm. Had to stay overnight in hotel for my connection to the Western Isles, the next day.

I bought saga insurance for a cruise holiday my husband and I were taking on the 24th April 2010, unfortunately due to the volcanic ash cloud rearing its head my husband who suffered a heart attack in 1998 felt under to much pressure to go ahead with the holiday, when buying the insurance I informed Saga all of our health issues including the heart attack and was accepted.

My dad rang the SAGA travel insurance call centre for a quotation, not sure if he could get cover for his wife. The operator wasnt interested in listening, was very rude to this 70 yr old man and even told him to 'just answer Yes or No'He was so upset he put the phone down. He rang back later and asked for the duty manager, the next day he had a call from someone who said they would investigate and get back to him. 1 week later we are still waiting. I have had an annual policy with SAGA for 2 years. I declared my existing condition of gallstones. I recently report that I have been placed on awaiting list for surgery. SAGA cancelled my annual policy.
The operator informed me initially that my policy would continue but when I rang to ask where my written confirmation was I was told that the policy was being cancelled. This reflected my earlier experience that the operators are incompetent and mislead customers.

After buying annual travel insurance from SAGA, my mum (a non-smoker) was diagnosed, and successfully treated for lung cancer with a lobectomy. As she was recovering well, we arranged a trip to the Canaries. She phoned to check that her annual policy would still be valid. I have been a home insurance customer of Saga for some years. I have never made a claim, and I have paid my premiums, including interest, by direct debit. Recently, I decided to take advantage of a special offer by another company and cancelled my policy with Saga. The cancellation charge was a whopping £35. No reward for loyal customers then. I have just received a travel insurance renewal reminder from
Saga. It is showing a huge 42% increase over what I paid last year.
No explanation, no justification. A ripoff!
Do be sure to check alternatives before renewing with Saga.
