Batteries are the cheapest lowest quality. They would discharge themselves just sitting there doing nothing. Then when you go to charge them there is no power.

It not very good when you have too buy New drill when the battery is no good why kant you buy battery for dril SO you don't have to throw away the drill

This drill was bought from argos to put up pictures in a masonry wall. After waiting 6 HOURS! for drill to charge it died after four 5mm holes! The build quality is terrible, the batteries are giant for such poor run time. Everything about this product is bad from the ground up. I later went to screwfix and bought a 50 pound titan combi drill with 2 batteries which has unbelievable run time for the same stated ah rating as the challenger. On a side to side comparison the titan drilled masonry twice as fast on a battery straight out of box in charged and never lost power once. It goes to show how bad a product this is. Avoid this like the plague!

Used three times and then stopped working just outside of its warranty period. Not good value for money at all...,paid £65 for it

I got a new challenge 18 volt drill .clearly not made by same company as my older challenge drill as it is far inferior in build quality and performance and my old one is only 14 volts and far more powerful and looks and feels far better than my new one.

Got money to burn? You will with this drill. Do yourself a favour and take those pounds and have a bonfire with them, you'll have more satisfaction than trying to use this useless piece of you know what? There is absolutely nothing to like about it, Oh! maybe the case? Xtreme? More like extremely useless.

Great to begin with but now won't charge. Opened the charger up and found the circuit board black and leads melted. Not happy that you can't buy replacements.Argos get your act together as this must surely be a fire risk waiting to happen. Recall the item and get a charger pack that is fit for purpose. I am sending this to Watchdog to speed up your reply as I'm sure that they will be interested in the fact that you have known of the problems and done nothing

Bought drill in 2012. Worked firn on first very limited outing and gave the appearance of a well made tool. How wrong could I be. Not used again until March 2015 now both batteries refuse to charge, needless to say it is now out of guarantee. So only used once then throw away. A very expensive way of DIYing. Argos should not be selling such a rubbish piece of equipment

My original challenge BD4909 purchased circa 1997 would still be used if I had a replacement battery which is no longer available, so I bought the the above CD1224MN to replace it, a big mistake The first one was supplied with dead batteries so was exchanged, the next one's drill worked but drained quickly, the hammer action did not work when I came to use it. They are poorly made with a ''hear the power quickly go down the plughole''battery life. It was only bought for DIY purpose but struggled drilling softwood such that I ended up using an old hand drill. There is nothing good about this tool, it is only fit for the recycle centre, Challenge were great in the past as my old tool proves (I would use it if I had a battery that fits) but the replacement I bought is worthless scrap. DON'T BUY ONE. Had I known how poor it was I would not have got ot and I will never buy any Challenge tool again.

This was purchased for me for Christmas last year , when I first used it in March all was ok , then I come to use it in September this year and the battery charger does not charge the battery's , I don't have the receipt now , so it's been a waste of money after being used once , nice drill but very cheap quality might aswell be a toy

my wife bought me this drill for Christmas last year and played up from the start.went about 4 months then had hard job charging.argos changed it but dead on end of warranty refused to charge had it tested by electrician who said hed had about 30 of these same problem, chargers melting refusing to charge.now I'm without a drill and lumbered with a useless bit of kit.it looks good but that's the only thing in its favour.cant even find where to purchase a new charger, come on argos stop selling grade 2 electricials as one day someone could be injured or worse still electrocuted through these items.

Thought when I bought this from Argos that I'd got a bargain...how wrong can you be! Once charged the power diminishes with every second of usage and knowing that this unit only benefits from a long sustained charging procedure, I left it on charge for five hours.....Didn't realise the implications of such a decision... When I returned to unplug it from the charger, I found the charger had actually melted and become mis-shapen. So I now have a cordless drill with no means to charge it. So if you want a decent cordless drill DON'T BUY THIS ONE.... and if you don't want a fire from an over-heated charger DEFINITELy DONT BUY THIS ONE!!!!!

The contact points corroded, battery pack packed up, poor power output. Why buy it?

From the box this drill looked very good, and but unfortunately for me I'm not a tech person so I couldn't really work out the specifications, but the problem I found is that the drill is not up for the challenge, is too weak to drill into a proper concrete wall so it basically was no use to me. I can recommend it though if you have simple work to do.

have two challenge xtreme drills, one bought, one given as birthday present to replace first one. chargers packed up after very little use.no spares available, no help from argos or homebase. advise buying accredited makes.

I used my drill (as a light use DIYer) for less than a year, first one battery would not charge then after a few more weeks the other one went the same way!!! These batteries are not "fit for purpose" This screwdriver should removed from sale. These batteries are Xtreme, extremely poor that is!!!
