My friend and I go on a hack at Match Moor when we can we try to go at least twice a month. It is affordable and is great for stress relief. The staff are a credit to the owner, they are very helpful and respectable. We are not the best horse riders as we only started to have lessons a couple of years ago and are not the youngest of riders either. All the horses we have rode have a great temperament. We are lucky to have a great riding school within a reasonable distance to our homes… Read Full Review

I have been attending this rding school for the last 6 weeks with my 2 daughters aged 9 and 7. None of us have ridden before, but ALL staff and the temperament of the horses are first class. We hope to progress from just a hack to actual riding lessons in the up and coming future weeks, but every time we go we have great fun and learn the basics from the staff, whom accompany you on the hack to progress to actual lessons. In a nutshell the tittle of this review says it all!! Laurence… Read Full Review

I am in my thirties and have been riding since I was eight. I have ridden at many different riding schools over the years and I have never been to one as good as Matchmoor.
Their horses are home bred (they have a Fell stallion and several different types of mares they breed from). This means that all the horses are trained in the same manner and the staff know them extremely well. Obviously they are all very different and have their own personalities, however, they all respond to the… Read Full Review

I am a more mature gent. and started riding 14yrs. ago at matchmoor riding centre with my wife, the instruction we got enabled us to go on to own horses of our own, we have had some fine hacks out from matchmoor and some hard but good lesson's.I have always admired Sue for the way she has run her riding centre if it was not for her a lot of people would never have been able to afford to ride.

A balanced (I hope) view.
Variety of horses with a wide range of talents
Range of instructors
Straightforward no frills yard
Only outdoor schools which means it can be very wet, cold and windy in winter, occasionally iced over schools which are dangerous.
Horses can look muddy etc and appear to be cramped in some stables
Horses are regularly turned out.
Ill/injured horses are cared for with the aim of returning them to work at some point, however long it takes
Regular little… Read Full Review

I may only be 15, but I have been riding since i was 4 and this has to be the best riding stables i have be to in that whole time. I have been riding at these stables for around 2years now and I wouldn't leave for the world! I have taken part in practically everything the offer half hour hacks, lessons, private lessons, 1hour hacks and there's so much more. I've also taken many of my friends there and they have all agreed how brilliant match moor is! I would recommend these stables to anyone… Read Full Review

I have the previledge to visit the matchmoor lane riding school every year on my visit to Horwich.
As a Malaysian horse rider I was made welcome by the owner and staff at the centre . The horses and ponies are gentle and well cared for.

Although I have not been to Matchmoor Riding School for two years, I've always recommended it to friends and family who are keen to learn all about the equine sport. I have watched Matchmoor progress over many years.
Due to myself having many horses over many years (mainly for jumping and cross country), i tend choose Matchmoor for hacking out around the country side/bridle paths. There are quite a few trails to choose from.
I find the staff to be friendly, knowledgeable with many years… Read Full Review

I have been at Matchmoor for 7 years now and i love it as much now as i did when i first started. Before i went there i looked at several other riding schools but none were as good as Matchmoor There is a great selection of horses to ride which have all helped to improve my riding as i can ride anything from a 13hh to a 15.3hh due to my size, height and experience, i get to ride the easy ponies like chico and rags and i also get the difficult ones like bracken and seamus. I have been taught by… Read Full Review

I've now ridden at this centre for just under 8 years, i've seen horses and staff come and go. I feel that the team of horses and the relationship with staff at matchmoor now is a very well thought through and well developed. Its easy for people to come on this site and 'rant' away about rocky feild, cramped stables or bad grooming. However if they didn't notice the ridding school is situated in the moors, where there are rocks. Horse's are wild animals, they may be domesticated on the yard and… Read Full Review

I think Matchmoor is a perfectly nice riding school, with good instrucors and gentle ponies. It isn't the cleanest school ever, the horses don't get groomed loads, but they do get a lot of time out in the fields which are fairly large. I had to leave because I started loaning my pony and it would cost too much, but if not I would definately still be riding there. My friend now rides there, and she loves it! She is taught by laura, and so was I. She was very good. There is free boot and hat hire… Read Full Review
