I have the previledge to visit the matchmoor lane riding school every year on my visit to Horwich.
As a Malaysian horse rider I was made welcome by the owner and staff at the centre . The horses and ponies are gentle and well cared for.
I look forward to my visit again this coming November and December.

Ive been riding at Matchmoor now for nearly a year, i went to a few different schools before i found Matchmoor.
At the other farms and never learnt how to canter on even trot over a pole. - But at my first week at Matchmoor we actully used time vaulibaily. we went over poles and cantered.
I know get some off the harder ponies to ride like Rags and Kim and also i few other.

There are some thing that need fixing up which is the road, it got all holes and ditches. Also the horses do need to be… Read Full Review

Written on: 07/09/2010 by horse2010 (1 review written)

Although I have not been to Matchmoor Riding School for two years, I've always recommended it to friends and family who are keen to learn all about the equine sport. I have watched Matchmoor progress over many years.
Due to myself having many horses over many years (mainly for jumping and cross country), i tend choose Matchmoor for hacking out around the country side/bridle paths. There are quite a few trails to choose from.
I find the staff to be friendly, knowledgeable with many years… Read Full Review

I have been at Matchmoor for 7 years now and i love it as much now as i did when i first started. Before i went there i looked at several other riding schools but none were as good as Matchmoor There is a great selection of horses to ride which have all helped to improve my riding as i can ride anything from a 13hh to a 15.3hh due to my size, height and experience, i get to ride the easy ponies like chico and rags and i also get the difficult ones like bracken and seamus. “I've now ridden at this centre for just under 8 years,...”

Written on: 17/08/2010

I've now ridden at this centre for just under 8 years, i've seen horses and staff come and go. I feel that the team of horses and the relationship with staff at matchmoor now is a very well thought through and well developed. Its easy for people to come on this site and 'rant' away about rocky feild, cramped stables or bad grooming. However if they didn't notice the ridding school is situated in the moors, where there are rocks. Horse's are wild animals, they may be domesticated on the yard and… Read Full Review

Im not being funny but if the horses were cramped then they wouldnt have got BHS aproval. The schools have recently been redone and are fabulous to ride in. The horses are brushed every morning before they are tacked up and their feet are always checked and picked out. You have clearly never worked at a riding school cos if you did you would know that it is impossible to give every horse on the yard a full groom every day. All the staff are lovely and easy to talk to and give great advice to customers.

On the contrary, i believe the riding school provides good horse care and the animals are well looked after. You may not know this but looking after 50+ hoses on a working yard daily is a tough task, it would be impossible to give a full groom to every horse every day. All the horses have a quick groom, feet picked out and a check every morning and evening as well as regular care during the day to maintain good health. As Matchmoor is BHS approved the care must be good as the BHS have high standard, also the arenas are well kept (especially as they are outdoor, which are much harder to maintain). The staff provide high quality teaching and are kind and considerate, offering advice and service with a smile to ALL customers.

“I think Matchmoor is a perfectly nice riding school,...”

Written on: 22/07/2010

I think Matchmoor is a perfectly nice riding school, with good instrucors and gentle ponies. It isn't the cleanest school ever, the horses don't get groomed loads, but they do get a lot of time out in the fields which are fairly large. I had to leave because I started loaning my pony and it would cost too much, but if not I would definately still be riding there. My friend now rides there, and she loves it! She is taught by laura, and so was I. She was very good. There is free boot and hat hire… Read Full Review

I can honestly say this is the best place I have ever ridden at and would not change riding schools for anything! ALL instructors and yard staff are lovely, very friendly and helpful and there is a fantastic range of horses and ponies for all abilities. Owner is lovely and really will go out of her way to accomodate your needs and there are many fantastic opportunities for you to improve your horse care and knowledge as well as your riding. Great summer shows, both jumping and Dressage and… Read Full Review

I absolutely love Matchmoor, I had lessons with Sarah until she left for Australia which we were gutted about! But now I have Keeley and I can honestly say ive never had so much fun riding. The lessons are great I get to push myself and challenge myself whilst learning and enjoying the lessons. We laugh loads and learn loads its a great balance. ~I would recommend this school to children and adults alike. to be honest i think you have exagerated this way to much! if this riding school which i have ridden at since it opened was that bad the BHS would not approve it and would have it closed down. the horses are not cramp and the horses stay out in the field yes fields can have rocks in but horses are meant to live out in the wild so you statements seem to be useless and injust if you want to learn to ride properly then your going to the wrong lace. horses feet do not need to be picked out after every lesson unless you are riding in bad conditions. also no child is allowed to pull fur out of silver they were prob trying to sort out its mane !! and silver is naughty the horse prob kicked out at the owner so get your facts straight
