Have been using 18185 for more than 10 years without any problems. Have my landline and mobile registered. Most of my calls are to Australia but also use them to phone friend's and relatives when they are holidaying outside the EU where you can phone a hotel in Turkey for 3p per minute using 18185 whereas it would cost £1 per minute phoning from Turkey to the UK using a UK mobile phone.

“Tremendously good value”

I have used 18185 for two years and things have gone very well. Occasionally, I don't get through first time, but always do the second time. I have never been cut-off. I have a direct debit arrangement, so they deduct the money according to their bill - which is always extraordinarily cheap. UK national calls are free, and when I recently rang Los Angeles it was 1p per minute. I regularly have to participate in a tele-conference based in France lasting at least one hour, and my subsequent bill is remarkably low. My experience is only positive, and I am puzzled by the negative comments on this site.

“Fine when it works”

I've been using this service for about a year now - not every week but had been fairly happy with call quality and the price is good. BUT it's a dreadful service if things don't go right. It's impossible to contact anyone and the website is one of the worst I've seen in a long time. Today, after just 25 mins, I was cut off mid-call with the message that "for security reasons" I'd reached my limit for the day and to try again tomorrow. Tomorrow! Well gee, thanks. That's kind of you letting me have my telephone privileges again tomorrow! My calls usually last about 50 mins and had no problems before with this - and as the first time I'd used 18185 this week, it's not as if I'm a heavy user. Off to someone else now. I'd rather pay 0.5p a minute more and have a reliable service that doesn't end calls arbitrarily.

“registration process impossible to complete”

I was totally unable to complete the registration process. On the first line of the form the screen cut out when I tried to move the selection dot from "Mr" to something else. Then I tried leaving it as "Mr" and continuing with the following items. But every single time, and I have tried at least 30 times, the screen cut out before I was able to complete it. It moved on to another screen which then froze, and I had to start again from scratch. Another little twist is that you can't actually use the "contact" process either online or on the phone unless you are ALREADY registered. So Catch 22 and around you go again.

Can't believe I am having the same problem with registering my Mum (I have used them for 8 years with no problems). There is no contact either, only a long list of FAQ when click on 'contact us'. This is end September 2016 so 2 year's later. Looks like they don't want any more business.

“Rubbish rubbish rubbish cons”

I joined right now and decided to make a call. It keep saying " we have a limit, you reached the limit". I have not even made any calls yet... This is C0N. I think these people only interested to my Credit Card details. Also, there is no way that you can speak to customer services.. there is NO customer services at all.

“Not easy to connect”

I have been using this service for many years, and at first it was very good. Excellent rates, easy payment by Dir debit, good detailed invoices, and I was using it from my landline or from my mobile phone. Problems have appeared recently. First, the service stopped working with my landline. When I contacted 18185 cust services, they told me the problem is with my landline provider (Post Office UK), that they block services such as 18185. I think the reason the landline provider blocks those services is to force their customers to use their own much, much more expensive calls. To use 18185 with my mobile phone I need to dial a number and when I get the message, dial the number I want. This was working fine until a couple of weeks ago. Now I dial the access number and after hearing the message I try to dial the number in the usual way, but now the screen goes blank, then comes on again, and goes on and off in a way that I cannot dial the number I need. So I think mobile providers are also blocking these services. In short, the 18185 service is good, but watch out for problems created by the competitors.

“Skype for Landlines is Cheaper and Safer ”

The 18185 service worked fine for me for a while, the call quality was good and had no issues with double billing from my phone service provider. However, as 18185 require you to set up a debit order and if there are ever any problems with billing, say goodbye to your money and forget ever being able to sort it out. If you click customer services on the website it just sends you to FAQ and one goes in circles. Once you finally do find the page where you can send a message, there is no guarantee that anyone will ever get back to you. A mistake was made on my bill and I was never able to sort it out. Thank goodness it wasn`t a large amount taken from my account. Needless to say I cancelled the subscription and also the debit order. Upon looking for a new option for my international calls I discovered that Skype charges less per minute to German landlines than 18185, and it is much safer too! I was never happy about the security issues with my sensitive information on the 1815 site. A Skype subscription for unlimited calls to land-lines in Europe only costs £5.74 per month and if you subscribe to a quarterly payment they offer a discount on that. Calls can easily be made from an app on your smartphone. So I suggest that one looks into calling international landlines via Skype as an alternative.

“appalling call quality”

Call quality has become so poor that nearly all calls have to be ended prematurely. There are considerable connection delays, then further delays during speech and very muffled, at times inaudible. Any sort of customer service is practically non-existent and to every email I send asking for help, they repeat the same mantra about doing 'test calls' and getting a ;'technical team' to look at it. It's all a lie, nothing happens because there's no-one running the service. I would say. don't bother with them - If your phonecall matters and you need to hear each other, don't use 18185.co.uk.

“18185 charge you twice”

Do not use 18185 if you want to save money. They take the money twice and refuse to refund it. First of all they sent an email saying the bank wouldn't pay the direct debit (possibly due to me not using 18185 for a long time), it was still set up on my bank account. I was made to pay by card and told to set up the direct debit again. I did this and the 1st of the next month, they took the same amount by direct debit. 18185 have accepted they owe me money but refuse to return it and say I can have it as credit which I don't want and had already closed my account with them.

Be warned, if you have them send you an email stating that you must pay them then expect to have them again take money from you: You end up paying twice. You cannot get through to them for love nor money.

“6½ years of savings!”

I've been with 1899, 18185 and 18866 (yes, I have accounts with all 3 and use the one that's cheapest for the particular destination I'm calling) for 6½ years and can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times a call has failed or the connection has been so poor that I had to disconnect and re-dial. The savngs I've made (the GL makes 40+ minute calls to her sister in Spain each week and, at 4p connection + 1p/minute, there's no need to worry about her racking up a big bill).

“ quality has deteriorated”

We have been using 18185 for the past three years to call Thailand Europe and Australia, we were delighted with the possibility of making cheap calls for family and business purposes; the bill at the end of the month was always surprisingly low; an unusual occurrence. Australia is still ok, so is Germany but unfortunately calls to France and Thailand, have been rendered impossible by the poor quality of reception. we can hear the correspondent but he or she can’t hear a word we say. We’ve tried registering complaints on the 18185 website but just receive formulaic replies telling us they have checked their system and there are no problems and to address our problems to BT. We did in fact call BT and they called us back to say the engineers checked our line and found no problem. If we use BT (at great expense) the quality is perfect, if we receive calls from Thailand the quality is also perfect, so we can only assume the problem is with 18185. We are looking at alternatives for cheap calls like Skype at present. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

I've just discovered that BT can override their interface and I'm paying twice for the calls! 18185 just shrug it off! DONT USE THEM unless you are sure that your provider cant override the 18185 service.(SERVICE?what service?)

Well it's September 2016 and it's still happening. I notice someone had same issues in 2011. Have been trying to persuade my Mum for years to use this service as I haven't had any issues in 8 years but looks like they aren't bothered about any more business - they must know about how difficult it is to register and contact them

Been with them for years, gets worse year after year. Terrible connection (almost always does not connect). The other side does not hear any ringtone (on most occasions I had to text them or ring them to pick up the phone which beats the whole purpose of trying to get a cheap call!). Keeps ended up into a voicemail (kept getting charged each time). Drops frequently when connected, poor reception.

Don't know why I didn't leave sooner (too lazy maybe). But have now cancelled my account and moved onto SimpleCall. Fingers crossed.

My daughter lives in Jersey, Channel Islands. We were both spending a fortune on calls - me with BT and her Jersey Telecom.
I signed up with 18185 and all my calls now cost only 5p with zero p. per minute. As my daughter is not with BT her calls are internation so I always do the calling.

I have had no problems to date and have saved lots of p. The inability to locate or call a customer service does worry me somewhat as does the visibility of my bank account details when I log in.

I suppose the amount saved would not be possible if the company had to employ people to deliver a customer service. I am still using 18185 and have had no problems to date - though only use it to ring the Channel Islands.

I work in a school and signed up for 18185 after my brother highly recommended the service. It was excellent until recently when they stopped the texting service. What are we supposed to do now? Everything was working so well but now I have major problems because I have to use my own phone to send text messages and its costing me money.

The system works reasonably well, all apid via direct debit monthly and only occasionally does it suffer poor connections but as I had forgotten to print off 2010 invoices I needed to contact them -that's when I realised it was impossible to query anything as their link to "customer services" email went via the FAQs which merely looped back to the start so I could never get an email address for customer services or any tel no- they are uncontactable which worries me if there is a money issue with incorrect payments- how would one resolve these?!

I have found 18185 to be very good for people with a small pocket. I find this blog a little 'unsettling'.
I have only just come onto site to see what the latest tarriff charges are BUT I can't find it anymore.
I can only presume that "18185" are facing cost pressures which is rather sad. I find them part of my necessary staple diet.

I have been with them for many many years and the system was excellent - the basic function still works well, but now they are slipping - they put the connect price up with out informing you by email, and now they have removed the text service without notice finally and they is no way of contacting them - that is disgraceful!! such a pity that a good product that works well dont have a long term commitment to get bettter and better - they are just stale now! and on the way down. The first time since joing them have I started to look for an alternative
