I applied for a vanquis card face to face on the 2nd august 2013. I was told i was approved for a £1,000 limit. I was happy condiering my credit hasnt been the best and i have been working to build it up over the last year or so. I don't believe you! Vanquis are based in Bradford,With offices in London and Chatham,read the company portfolio,it's states " we are based in the UK,and are proud that we are the only credit card company not to outsource overseas" cannot stand liars,and your one of them

My account shows 4 purchases that I did not buy ( I still have the card), well over £400, and I have tried for 4 days to contact them on the lost card number and the automated phone system, I am still waiting for someone to to answer the phone!! Any company that pesters you with 20+ emails a week to apply for a card with no option to unsubscribe is a bad egg in my books. I have clicked the unsubscribe link on the email many times but there is no option to unsubscribe anywhere. And what company these days doesn't have a contact email address??? “easy to get accepted but steep apr and poor service”

i got accepted for this card easily and received my card swiftly. vanquis claimed that i would get increases every quarter, which never materialised after holding the card for just under a year. i never went over limit and paid in full every month (thanks to a steep 59.9%APR) but still that was not good enough to get an increase. i hold an aqua card and a barclaycard which they gave me credit limit increases much sooner (both after about 4months) so the vanquis became obsolete so I closed the… Read Full Review

“Whatever you do dont get one.”

Everything was going alright until a couple of months ago. Living in Scotland and my parents live in Hampshire. My father was diagnosed with terminal cancer and shortly after my mother called me and said I think you need to come home quickly. A payment was made around the same time as I headed south. Totally know what you mean and sorry about your Dad. They ring me on an hourly basis even though I have taken them to the Ombudsman, I wrote to them and twice to the CEO but they deny getting the letters (sent recorded so I know they got them), have given up calling them as the phone numbers are premium rate ones and no alternatives are given, It amazes me that if you are in financial difficulty they only supply a costly number to call.
They are the lowest of the low and rip off merchants.

Firstly, I am very sorry to read about your father. I can totally understand your comments about this shoddy excuse for a credit card company. They're nice as pie to you when you're paying on time but as soon as you hit a problem, something not necessarily your fault, they will not listen to reason. I think the staff are put through an intensive customer dis-service course before they are let loose on the 'help' line.

The best thing I ever did was to pay these clowns the balance in full and shut the account. Even though, they sent me a 'statement' for July 2013 and the account had been closed since December 2012. When I called to query it, one of their gorilla's, rather rudely, barked it was a 'mistake'. Getting the card in the first place was my 'mistake'.

“Unethical Loan Sharks and Theifs”

Avoid getting any credit card from Vanquis. My experience is they are unethical and do not care about UK credit regulations. I have had nothing but un substainated charges applied to the card up to £1000. They claimed mistakes and errors and keep saying they will refund but instead keep adding charges. I had to make one claim when I paid a deposit for flights to Spain but the agency I paid to went bust, ATOL advised me Vanquis should refund the costs. “SERIOUSLY CONCERNED ABOUT THE LEGALITY OF THIS FIRM”

Telephoned Card Company on Monday to pay card off in full. Paid CASH into a major Bank over the counter into this company's account. Hang on a sec - I've got a vanquis card and I've never had a problem with them. You have to appreciate that Vanquis lend money to people like me (I had some rather unpleasant financial problems in the past) and presumably are concerned about default.

Whilst I wouldn't condone 6/7 calls a day - which clearly is excessive. If you'd paid on time there wouldn't have been a problem. Presumably you paid by debit card as soon as they spoke to you to remind you about the missing payment - at that point, once they'd made contact with you the and you'd paid surely the calls would stop.

i agree with rich,if you missed a payment on gas,electric,contract phone,landline,etc they call you,so why bleat on here when you paid late,ok my only gripe with vanquis is the 550 limit im stuck on been with them since 21/3/2012 and had one raise from 150 to 550 always pay at least 110 off a month,never been late,and clear my balance about every 6 months,but other than that cant fault them

Agreed also with Danthemam, I have my vanquis gold card with £3000 credit limit for 4 years. never used more than £1500 on the card and pay full balance by direct debit if I use the card. Never had a problem with them ever.

Because I was gullible when I was a bit younger when I got made redundant I could not keep up being out of work only able to pay a few months on JSA, Which at this time they still charged unknown things on the card and at no point did they help when I was made redundant !

“Bankrupt to Excellent Credit rating with this card”

Got this card about 2 years after opting for bankruptcy due to unmanageable levels of debt and ludicrously unhelpful lenders. I went from a £500 limit up to £1000 in 4 months, and then up to £1750 4 months after that. Mine fluctuates quite a lot, depending on the time of the month that I check my score.

Where this is the only line of credit I have, if I check at the end of the month before I have paid the balance, my total used credit is considered very high, dropping my rating like a stone.

Try checking a week or so after you have paid to give the decrease in utilised credit a chance to update.

So you go bankrupt,then apply for credit,people like you don't deserve a second chance! It's a pity your so called spending money didn't go towards your creditors. All you had to do is go to the citizens advice or go to a solicitors ever of them would of advised you. Oh and a score of 980 means nothing try apply for a mainstream lender and you'll be declined,simply because your bankruptcy will still be showing for at least two more years!!

Do help you build your credit if you've not had any before but seriously hard work should you move/get married. I got married 2 years ago and unless I send them my original wedding cert or pay for a solicitor to authorise a copy they won't change my name- have offered to send scanned copy, proof of new name(scanned passport/utility bills etc)but refused to do. Before they increase your limit they tell you this by letter. It clearly states. If you keep within your limit or not get too close to the limit, you will get the increase. I you clearly did the opposite, thats why they cancelled the increase.

“Just try to pay off this card!”

Hi - our son got into problems with credit card and we stepped in to help. Every other card company gave us an outstanding balance which we could just pay off - end of story...... Vanquis however would not give a final balance to enable us to pay the card off - they just gave a vague amount then said that further interest would be added in the next month. I guess they prey on people with bad credit and then don't actually want them to pay off their outstanding balance. I only hope that… Read Full Review

“Avoid, Rogues, Wrongfull Charges on a Nil Balance !!!”

firstly, Dan please don't comment on my review From my experience, vanquis are a rogue company I have never had bad credit, instead for years I have had no credit cards, so had to build up a good credit file. I paid off my balance every month on time, but vanquis managed to put various fee types on to my account, all compounding on each other. hi Vespa, i too have the same issues with vanquis, and lodged a complaint with the ombusman 8 months ago.Im still waiting to see if they can resolve the problems, because i have been plaqued by phone calls from vanquis, and dont feel i can take much more What was your outcome with the ombusman? i was told that they never rule against vanquis, so im not holding my breath, apparently they are not as neautral as they make out.

God you're right there. I did the same thing and shock of all shocks the Ombudsman ruled in favour of Vanquis even after saying they didn't understand many of their practises. Bankers all in it together.
I refuse to pay them and sod my credit rating, highway robbers!

ombudsman service was ok, they negotiated £25 compensation, not a satisfactory result considering the year + I spent asking Vanquise to stop charging me incorrect charges and charges that din't exist on any of their literature and charges on these charges because I refused to pay them

“Extreme Danger!!!”

A number of people, including myself, have taken out Vanquis cards and set up Direct Debits to pay. Vanquis then fail to take those Direct Debits and charge you late payment fees, over limit fees and any other fee they can think of. This happened on my first scheduled payment. In response Vanquis usually appear to say that no DD was set up, despite reassurance that it was set up when the card was taken out. Currently I have a DD set up by Vanquis from my bank.
