For other people's reference, you can cancel the credit card within 14 days. Unfortunately, applying for it will have lowered your credit score and I'm guessing you will have several "administrative" fees to pay off first.

Why would their be any 'administrative' fees if the card hasn't been used,you simpleton! Furthermore,one credit search will not affect your 'credit score' you are allowed three searches within six Months. Instead of spell checking other's on here perhaps you need to know the facts regarding the consumer credit act!

“Avoid at all costs”

Haven't been able to use card for three days now as it's always declined. Customer so called services are useless, promise to unblock it but don't, last spoke to them on sat afternoon and was told by the rude girl half way through discussing the situation that she was now going home and I would have to wait till Monday morning to call back and hung up. I am a supposed Gold card member but all that seems to entitle me to is rubbish customer service an like you, a card the works when it wants to. Luckily I've been accepted for a proper credit card elsewhere but am about to fight with the "billed deferred finance charges" of nearly £50 they've slapped onto my account. I've already chopped up my card and returned it to them with a scathing letter to which they will never respond, telling them how useless they and their CS staff are.

stop lying! You maxed the card out and never paid, or you are cashing it out at ATM's. Vanquis never blocks any card they issue, unless you abuse it!

U r lying, they will block a card if they think u r using it too much, example is if u only make small purchases and the suddenly use it for a high value purchase. How date u insinuate that I have abused the card, I have never gone over my limit or missed a payment.

Vanquis DO block cards if you carry out X amount of transactions within a small period of time. When I had their card (which, thankfully, I no longer have) I did some Christmas shopping. I used the card in M&S for a small transaction of around £12, another store for around £10 and when I went to use it in another store for around £8, it was declined. It being Christmas time, their was a massive queue behind me and the assistant didn't help by booming out that the card was declined. I called Vanquis to ask just what was going on (their was plenty of available credit on my card) and the advisor said they did this to counter fraudulent transactions. Now if I'd have made numerous high value transactions, I could understand, but transactions totalling £30 using chip and pin? Ridiculously useless, just like the company and its customer service!

“High APR but it gives you a credit rating!”

Everyone that gets this credit card is more than aware that it has VERY high APR. As long as you pay your minimum payment on time, it isn't a problem. If you can't afford to pay it back or don't like the APR, surely you shouldn't get a credit card. Be aware of their version of PPI - it is the same thing pretty much, just a different name and they may put it on your account and charge you without your knowledge. “Gone over limit”

I have loved my vanquis card until TODAY. I pay the minimum amount every month and check my balance almost weekly. At the beginning of last week I checked my balance, I spent half of what was available. Hi I would say no as they work on an automated system. So the chances of the increase happening becuase of what happened is slim. Unless a line manager would be willing to override it however I doubt they would do that . Sorry couldnt be anymore help

Why apply for and use these type of cards if you know you cant afford to pay the balance of each month or if not, at least twice the minimum payment. Did you not check the APR.

Hi, I think this might happen to me too. I have gone over my credit limit by 30p, ( as I withdrew cash and thought the fee got deducted at next statement not immediately) and spotted this yesterday .... the same day I received a letter telling me about a limit increase.
I've paid a few pounds to being me back under the limit, but am now thinking I'll miss out.
Did they say when you might be eligible again? Can I ask if you were over your limit by much more than 30p?

Paying the minimum payment is very dangerous,the interest along would amount to nearly the minimum payment amount! As for going over you're credit limit that is your own stupid fault.Furthermore, Vanquis will never increase your limit as a result! It seems to me maxing up your limit gives the impression your irresponsible and credit hungry! Personally, pay more than the limit for example, if your minimum payment is five pounds three would be interest,so I would suggest you pay at least fifty to sixty per month.

Been with vanquis for 18 months never really had a problem to be honest with you guys. I just never heard of this deffered interest. Never had a late payment charges etc. I would suggest that anybody who spends is to avoid maxing it out. I cannot work the interest out correctly despite having a mathematics degree. I'm going through this at the moment with my card. I am prepared to fight the deferred finance thing though as mine is nearly £50 ON TOP of £21 interest. I think the staff read from crib sheets which is why they have no clue what they are talking about. Can't wait to be free of them I can tell you.

So I run my account well and pay it off every single month in full. To be honest given that fact and that I never ever give them any money I don't have an issue with them at all. i.e. I never need to contact them, they don't contact me and all is good. if you want a credit card from the company then may i suggest that you call them up and apply that way i was the same i had a very poor credit score and i did not get a card for the 6 times i applyed then i got told to try calling them when i called them they gave me a basic card with £300 credit limit and after 6 months my credit score had went up a good deal and i got a credit limit raise to £1500 and now i have had contract mobile phones no problem as long as you keep all debts up to date you will find them a great bank

Same Here I Am In Hell Of A Pickle With Them, Tried Closing Account Down With Them They Keep Slamming Interest On And Don't Tell You, You Can't Talk To Them On The Phone As They Have Very Little English, I Entered On To A DMP And They Accepted The Monthly Offer, When It Come To Due Date They Would Sell Debt On But They Cant Tell You Where It Has Gone. So I Phoned DMP Up And Took Them Off The Plan They Wont Even Update My Address.

I applied for a Vanquis card in 2007 and got it with a £250 limit with an Apr of 39.9. Shocking I know but with a £250 limit it didnt seem too bad to try and handle to get my credit rating up. 3 years went by of not really any issues just allowed them to take the direct debit. 2010 credit limit increase, great went up to £1000. “easy to get accepted but steep apr and poor service”

i got accepted for this card easily and received my card swiftly. vanquis claimed that i would get increases every quarter, which never materialised after holding the card for just under a year. i never went over limit and paid in full every month (thanks to a steep 59.9%APR) but still that was not good enough to get an increase. i hold an aqua card and a barclaycard which they gave me credit limit increases much sooner (both after about 4months) so the vanquis became obsolete so I closed the… Read Full Review

“Whatever you do dont get one.”

Totally know what you mean and sorry about your Dad. They ring me on an hourly basis even though I have taken them to the Ombudsman, I wrote to them and twice to the CEO but they deny getting the letters (sent recorded so I know they got them), have given up calling them as the phone numbers are premium rate ones and no alternatives are given, It amazes me that if you are in financial difficulty they only supply a costly number to call.
They are the lowest of the low and rip off merchants.

Firstly, I am very sorry to read about your father. I can totally understand your comments about this shoddy excuse for a credit card company. They're nice as pie to you when you're paying on time but as soon as you hit a problem, something not necessarily your fault, they will not listen to reason. I think the staff are put through an intensive customer dis-service course before they are let loose on the 'help' line.

The best thing I ever did was to pay these clowns the balance in full and shut the account. Even though, they sent me a 'statement' for July 2013 and the account had been closed since December 2012. When I called to query it, one of their gorilla's, rather rudely, barked it was a 'mistake'. Getting the card in the first place was my 'mistake'.

“Unethical Loan Sharks and Theifs”

Avoid getting any credit card from Vanquis. My experience is they are unethical and do not care about UK credit regulations. I have had nothing but un substainated charges applied to the card up to £1000. They claimed mistakes and errors and keep saying they will refund but instead keep adding charges. I had to make one claim when I paid a deposit for flights to Spain but the agency I paid to went bust, ATOL advised me Vanquis should refund the costs. “SERIOUSLY CONCERNED ABOUT THE LEGALITY OF THIS FIRM”

Hang on a sec - I've got a vanquis card and I've never had a problem with them. You have to appreciate that Vanquis lend money to people like me (I had some rather unpleasant financial problems in the past) and presumably are concerned about default.

Whilst I wouldn't condone 6/7 calls a day - which clearly is excessive. If you'd paid on time there wouldn't have been a problem. Presumably you paid by debit card as soon as they spoke to you to remind you about the missing payment - at that point, once they'd made contact with you the and you'd paid surely the calls would stop.

i agree with rich,if you missed a payment on gas,electric,contract phone,landline,etc they call you,so why bleat on here when you paid late,ok my only gripe with vanquis is the 550 limit im stuck on been with them since 21/3/2012 and had one raise from 150 to 550 always pay at least 110 off a month,never been late,and clear my balance about every 6 months,but other than that cant fault them

Agreed also with Danthemam, I have my vanquis gold card with £3000 credit limit for 4 years. never used more than £1500 on the card and pay full balance by direct debit if I use the card. Never had a problem with them ever.

I HAVE REGISTERED A COMPLAINT AND AFTER 7 LETTERS, 2 PHONE MESSAGES AND HUNDREDS OF EMAILS (COPIED AND PASTED AND SENT EVERY HOUR) I HAVE ONLY RECEIVED A REPLY OFF THE IT DEPT SAYING THEY'D FORWARD EMAIL TO CUSTOMER SERVICE. Join the repetetive email club. In the same process myself. Can't find the 'No Action' team's email.

This is, without doubt the worst company I have ever dealt with, and I've lived in some rubbish countries!
