Had one of these for 8 months now applied online got a phone call next day offering initial limit of £1000. I didn't provide a landline number just my mobile. I use the card to build my credit score back up after a default with Capitol one. I use it to purchase fuel then pay the off in full or there abouts every month and on time. Still not had a credit limit increase at all but I do have around 8 numbers from vanquis blocked on my phone as they hassled me constantly trying to sell PPI… Read Full Review

“Good for rebuilding Credit, Bad for Customer Services”

I took this card out after being young and stupid with money and getting into debt a few years back in a view to rebuild my credit. It's a good card as long as you pay your balance in full every month! But when you do have an issue they are very reluctant to help so these days I just tend to stick to the online e-vanquish service, as you cannot go wrong. I work at vanquis "executive relations" I think you have been lied to. We don't have a call centre in Jo-berg. Our offices are in London,Chatham,Bradford. Inbound calls such as customer service are in Chatham. Collections are based in Bradford.Retention's and admin are in London. So I am afraid I agree with previous comments. I also find your comment strange. Everybody who is successful in gaining employment at vanquis is credit checked,so I am somewhat surprised you gained employment. Why would you ask a customer service agent if vanquis have a centre in Jo-berg,when you supposed to have work there. Very strange.

After six months closed automatically. Such rubbish. You make the rules up as you go along, or perhaps it's THE SYSTEM!

Hadn't used my card in two years. Applied for a new one and had to go through usual address, security etc., got a new card delivered fairly quickly but because I didn't use the card in six weeks THEY decided to cancel it [or perhaps it was THE SYSTEM]. Pathetic explanation, just glad I got a free phone number for these ......

“My Card was lost or stolen”

My card was stolen last year in Nov 2013 and till date they couldn't investigate properly. Now they are holding me responsible for being honest that my pin number was written in my diary. Never use their card and never give any recommendation. just a quick review, had this card 4 years now, I'm ex bankrupt, and my limit started at £250, i used , i paid, limit increases every 4 months, high interest but people who are applying are high risk. as long as you keep within the agreement that you signed everything will be ok, if not you ruin your second chance of having a credit card, so really its all down to you. today i received a limit increase to £3500 so it does exist , I'm happy but now I'm also sensible with my cards… Read Full Review

Sorry Snake, but I find your comment very unfair.

I work in the banking industry, and there are people, due to some misfortune that end up not in the best of financial situations. Bankruptcy is not an easy route for anybody to take, and it takes many years after being declared bankrupt to regain any credit if not any at all.

I have not been in this situation, but I have many customers coming into branch who have suffered through no choice of their own. So please, until you have experienced this first hand, please do not abuse others or make fun of other peoples circumstances.

Unfortunately, this is how Vanquis sucker people in. I started off at £500, which was manageable, and then they increased me up to the maximum £3000. It's cleverly done as they class this as a 'reward' for being a good customer for paying on time and staying within your limit. In truth, it's just to tempt you to spend it and see your minimum payments rocket. I was paying £150 per month and seeing the balance reduce by pennies each month. Owing to a small windfall, I was lucky enough to pay them off in full (although they still stung me for a further £107 in 'cash interest' the following month). There was no greater relief than receiving the letter confirming my account was cleared and closed. They advised that I was welcome to return as a Vanquis customer. Personally, I'd rather stick pins in my eyes than return to these clowns!

There is no point in keeping this card after the card becomes GOLD status for Vanquis/ not for you guys. Because at 40% interest no one in suicidal minds will use it for 2 months payment plan.
That's 600 pounds of Britain in year effectively 50 quids a month.

Once you become GOLD status for them then it's time to change card to better up gear.

Unless Vanquis establish a new Black Card scheme to greedy show off brainiacs.
That's so to keep a better looking plastic in wallet at a fraction of a bill.

Awful vile company. After having the card for a year they decided to hike my apr up for 39.9 to eye watering 59.9%!! Their so called customer service staff are a joke, rude unhelpful and sound like they couldnt care less when you speak to them on the phone. I ended up cancelling mine. “Second chance”

I spent years chasing my tail with debt and only now I'm in my 40s I'm getting on my feet. I was delighted to be accepted by Vanquis and started on £500 limit 2 years ago I'm now on £3500 ( I didn't know it went up so high). The interest is high but I've always stayed in my limit and paid on time and have been rewarded by Vanquis with constant credit increases. My grandad is terminally unwell , he couldn't afford the card and he was on his limit of 3000 for a long time we called to explain that he couldn't aford the payments, they wanted near 160 a month he 84 and has a life expectancy of 2-4 years at best , we said could we just pay 45 per month so they get something back, the delightful person said if we send proof of diagnosis theyd most likely wipe it off, we sent it in with a letter in January 2014 , were still waiting haven't paid and there just threatening collections and adding interest and charges per month nearing 200 . What can we do ?

I have had a Vanquis card for only 3 months.. Every month I spend about £120 and pay it off the day after the statement is produced. This month I paid my balance off in full and had to spend £20 on the card. Because the balance on line had not updated it let me also make that £20 payment too! If you have another option don't use Vanquis, if you do use them avoid their Repayment Option Plan as its PPI in another form. Customer service is very poor, you will get through to them, but they are quite rude and argumentative. The card does what it says but at a cost of high APR. “Fantastic Credit Card”

I applied for this credit card back in 2010 and was accepted pending my address being verified. I was given a £200 limit which was sufficient given I had very bad credit following a split with my partner. They were the only ones to give me a chance! My credit limit has increased every 6 months and I am now at the maximum £3000. I do all my banking online and pay the balance off in full every month and have never had a problem. Why be loyal to them? Had used the card for 12 months got a credit history started of at £500 increased to £1k , never had credit before..Applied for the asda card instant approval with a limit off £3500 also applied for the MBNA platinum instant approval of £5500, I've got no loyalty to vanquis, I kicked it to the curb..nobody likes those sort of cards in they wallets

Yes they really ARE that rubbish. The card has served its purpose for me as it has helped me repair my credit. I agree. I always settle my monthly online account in full. It usually takes ages to log in; so much so that I refuse to use their site; instead I have set up a payment through my online bank accounts. The idiots in sales/customer services try to sell clients worthless payment protection insurance. I just tell them to try selling something else as they clearly have very little or indeed no comprehension of 4,000 % credit card interest. Paying in full every month, even when spending 4 or 5 times the average amount particularly at festive seasonal times is sensible, all be it not good news for credit card providers when they must make do with the commission paid by the supplier of goods or services for the privilage of flogging stuff this way

“Not a customer but bombarded by calls”

I was called every single day, three times a day, for three weeks over the Christmas period. I'm not a Vanquis customer, and they were looking for someone else - despite my protests that I don't know this person. I only got this to stop by emailing the CEO, contacting the Financial Ombudsman and complaining to the Information Commissioner's Office. For other people's reference, you can cancel the credit card within 14 days. Unfortunately, applying for it will have lowered your credit score and I'm guessing you will have several "administrative" fees to pay off first.

Furthermore,one credit search will not affect your 'credit score' you are allowed three searches within six Months. Haven't been able to use card for three days now as it's always declined. I am a supposed Gold card member but all that seems to entitle me to is rubbish customer service an like you, a card the works when it wants to. Luckily I've been accepted for a proper credit card elsewhere but am about to fight with the "billed deferred finance charges" of nearly £50 they've slapped onto my account. I've already chopped up my card and returned it to them with a scathing letter to which they will never respond, telling them how useless they and their CS staff are.

Vanquis DO block cards if you carry out X amount of transactions within a small period of time. When I had their card (which, thankfully, I no longer have) I did some Christmas shopping. I used the card in M&S for a small transaction of around £12, another store for around £10 and when I went to use it in another store for around £8, it was declined. It being Christmas time, their was a massive queue behind me and the assistant didn't help by booming out that the card was declined. I called Vanquis to ask just what was going on (their was plenty of available credit on my card) and the advisor said they did this to counter fraudulent transactions. Now if I'd have made numerous high value transactions, I could understand, but transactions totalling £30 using chip and pin? Ridiculously useless, just like the company and its customer service!
