Westerns have been produced for over a century with their roots in the birth of cinema. It is a genre boasting some of the most well known films ever made, as well as actors including John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, Charles Bronson and Lee Van Cleef. Westerns were usually set in Western United States in the later half of the 19th century but sub genres such as osterns, spaghetti westerns, contemporary westerns and acid westerns saw them set in different historical periods (including the future) in more diverse geographical settings.
