What Twitter applications are available?

As you use Twitter more and more, you might want more functionality than the website (www.twitter.com) has to offer.

For example, your desktop computer is not mobile so it restricts where and when you can 'tweet' and you also have to keep refreshing the page to see new tweets. There are many Twitter applications (or Twitter apps) out there to help you make the most of Twitter.

Let's start with your desktop computer:

Tweetdeck - Is perhaps the most comprehensive application for your desktop. It uses Adobe AIR to make sure it keeps running in real time (updating automatically). It has a great selection of tools in terms or re-tweets, search, groups, replies, direct messages and now it integrates with Facebook so you can see Facebook updates too.

Twhirl - Clean, crisp and not much different to Tweetdeck in terms of what you're able to do. Complete app for all your Twitter needs.

Twitterfox - Is a small, nimble application that runs as part of your Firefox browser. Twitter can be a massive time drain and Twitterfox deals with that by being discrete and direct. It is limited with how much you can do, but covers all the basics.

Twitpic - Lets you share pictures with your followers. You can post pictures to TwitPic from your phone, the TwitPic home page or your Twitter account.

Twitter search - Does what it says on the tin. Is a search engine for Twitter.

Mobile Twitter apps:

Tweetie (see iTunes store) - An iPhone application that lets you manage your Twitter life on the go. Very easy to use.

Twitterfone - A service that lets you send messages to Twitter with your voice, just using your phone.

Dabr - Championed Twitter service for everyone without an iPhone or a Blackberry. A must if you're looking at mobile Twitter apps.
