3G - In A Nutshell

Sony Ericsson K600i front

Data transfer on mobiles was initially very slow based on old fashioned dial up technology until GPRS came along and speeded things up. Now, 3G or third Generation phones are capable of very high data rates, wide bandwidth and increased capacity to transmit bulky multi media data for Internet access, gaming and global roaming. The verdict is still out on 3G which has received a mixed reaction from shoppers, initially due to cumbersome handsets, cost, and teething problems including poor reception. But successive models are making progress.
