Verdict of Nikon D70

The Editor's Summary provides you with a comprehensive report of all the reviews we have received from consumers so far. We know that reading through a high volume of reviews can be time consuming, so The Editor has taken all the points made by our visitors and summarised them in this area of the site along with an overview of industry commentators.

Reviews

The Nikon D70 is one of a number of digital cameras enjoying more thumbs up than thumbs down from our reviewers. Versatility, body and lens quality are just some of the features that have made this item a hit among the ranks of professional photographers and serious amateurs alike.
Many feel the D70 overcomes the traditional weaknesses of digital cameras providing both fast power-up and snappy continuous shooting.
One reviewer was quick to remark image quality was "just stunning" while another hints at its simplicity and quality, revealing: "Whatever level you are as a photographer you won't be held back."

Japanese Award

Perhaps it is no surprise that this compact Nikon was winner of the prestigious Japanese Camera Grand Prix last year before a panel of Japans leading photography and camera journalists.
The D70 was voted the single most outstanding still camera from 172 nominees released between April 2003 and March 2004.
Judges felt this was a groundbreaking model delivering superior balance of performance, price and size, as well as being: "loaded with features that challenged even higher priced products."
A fast and precise auto focus system, menu options that are easy to view and understand and a quality feel and design consistent with Nikon's heritage were other factors.

Industry View

Nikon D70 Rear View

Elsewhere other industry commentators have welcomed a new digital SLR camera that is ready to perform and accessible to a wide audience.
PCMag.Com described this versatile camera as: "a pleasure to use," going on to add that this point and shoot or fully manual SLR will reward those who want to explore more creative avenues with their digital photography without breaking the bank.
Such positive responses led the Nikon D70 to become one of the best selling models of 2004 along with its higher than average price tag.
