Somebody else said it here, but I was also sceptical about the Kindle, I love reading and I love books, physcially holding them.
But a mate of mine showed me his kindle and it looked good and then my husband bought me one for our wedding anniversary.

I haven't looked back. As an avid reader, I'm amazed that in the past 2 months since owning this, I've been reading even more. It's just great.

My only issues are
1. As an Irish owner, I was automatically signed up to kindle.com US site, so I couldn't get the UK books and sales. (Although I did with a little playing about with the settings, but that's a pain)
2. I wish they featured the books on sale etc on the Kindle book storefront, I only saw the offers, when I was online at my PC - it has Wi-Fi, so why can't I view the sales and browse them as I would on the main kindle site

but over all 10/10
