We've had quite a good experience with Nationwide but also we have had a fantastic broker working his magic for us. We submitted our full application on Wednesday 15th August and received offer yesterday Monday 10th September. So we can't really complain but as I said earlier our broker has really been very helpful so overall not a bad experience...now to deal with the solicitor! (read more)

It's now approximately 2 years since we first took out a Santander fixed rate mortgage. Moving into a new build house with 5% deposit paid by the builder I was told that Santander were probably the only option for a mortgage. We have had our Mortgage with DBS for several years, in my opinion their staff have always appeared clue-less. Even a basic task such as paying our mortgage with cash in the branch seems to difficult for them, we have to repeatedly tell them the amount, they have to count several times, often miscounting and hardly ever know what change to give. Rather foolishly some 7 years ago,at the height of the property boom, took out a 15 year fixed-rate, self-certified mortgage for 115% of my property's value with Northern Rock. Big Mistake. HUGE. When things were good they were happy to lend, but now things are tough - and like so many others my income has fallen dramatically - they just don't want to know.
