The Skoda Superb is Skodas flagship executive car which was based on the platform of the VW Passat although it is longer. The name is a resurrection of an old Skoda, a large 1936 model. Skoda Superbs latest range offers a wide range of options including diesel and petrol engines and choice of transmissions. Depending on the engine, the Superb is fitted as standard with either a five or six speed manual
transmission. An adaptive Tiptronic automatic transmission is also available as an option for the 1.8T 20V 150bhp and V6 193bhetrol engines as well as the 2.5 V6 diesel engine. This intelligent five-speed automatic system electronically adapts to driving styles and prevailing road conditions but can be switched to manual transmission without clutch pedal if required. Clutch manual transmission control is operated from a hydraulically-activated single-plate dry clutch with diaphragm spring, asbestos-free coating. Automatic transmission is via hydrodynamic torque converter. Other features with the latest Skoda Superb 2008 include climatronic electronically regulated air-conditioning, height adjustable steering wheel and drivers seat, ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System plus EDL (Electronic Differential Lock) for added safety. Cruise Control and ESP (Electronic Stability Programme), Bi-Xenon headlights, rain sensor, plus acoustic rear parking sensors are also standard on many models.
