One of the best luxury SUVs on offer when it was introduced in 1998 for the 1999 model year the Lexus RX 300 re-defined luxury, performance and reliability in the 4X4 market.. The Lexus RX300 competes with BMW X5 and the like in the luxury SUV market. Its a high spec 4x4, five-seater estate with good off road capacities although slightly more tuned for cruising down the motorway or grappling with suburban roads. Although two models were offered in the UK the more expensive higher spec SE version was more popular. Lexus pioneered the crossover SUV mixing luxury saloon and sports utility with 4x4 capabilities. It was based upon the Toyota Camry platform. The RX was available in both Front Wheel Drive and full-time AWD. A 3.0 Litre V-6 provided 220 HP and 222 lb.-ft. of torque.
