Luxury mid size 4x4 SUV whose USP is a revolutionary petrol-electric hybrid power system offering decent fuel savings. The high performance hybrid makes sure that power is sent exactly where it's needed. It combines a 3.3-litre V6 petrol engine (208 bhp); plus two electric motors, one driving the front wheels and one the rear, offering a total power output of 269 bhp. When you want acceleration, power from the petrol engine and electric motors is sent to the wheels. When you are slowing down, the energy produced by the petrol engine and from vehicle braking is used to recharge the batteries. The system promises a smooth drive, jolt-free acceleration; formidable performance and impressive fuel economy. The RX 400h is the leading light of the Lexus RX Sports Utility Vehicles series, the other being the RX 350 with a V6 3.5-litre petrol engine. The RX 400h is the high performance hybrid option. RX 400h also benefits from Lexuss distinguished look, featuring distinctive round fog lamps, 18-inch five-spoke alloy wheels and the usual luxury accessories and stylings.

History

The Lexus RX 400h is a hybrid luxury crossover 4X4 made by Toyota Motor Corp for its Lexus luxury division.

The RX 400h was launched in 2005.

The RX 400h became the world's second mass-produced hybrid sport utility vehicle, after the Ford Escape Hybrid.

The RX 400h is the first luxury hybrid in this class.

The Lexus RX 400h was one of only four SUVs to achieve recognition on JD Power and Associates 2006 Automotive Environmental Index of the top 30 most environmentally-friendly vehicles.

JD Power awarded the RX 400h top slot for entry-luxury SUVs in 2005 for its design and usage.

The 2005 UK GreenFleet Awards - Lexus RX 400h 4x4 Manufacturer of the Year award.

Other Features

The RX 400h four-wheel-drive system called E-Four raises efficiency and security on the road. When the RX 400h is starting up, accelerating, braking and stopping, all wheels are driven, keeping you stable and in control. When cruising E-Four automatically switches into two wheel drive to improve fuel economy.

The RX 400h also benefits from the latest generation of Lexus's Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM). This pools together the car's safety and stability resources to anticipate and deal with problems on the road before they trouble you. VDIM extends the car's dynamic capabilities.
