Daimler Overview and History
Daimler is a division of Jaguar Cars Limited. The British
firm Daimler was bought by British company BSA, which at the time was a major
manufacturer of motorcycles, in 1910. In 1960 Daimler was sold to Jaguar.
Also, confusingly, the name Daimler is used by two completely separate groups
of car
manufacturers. The history of both companies is connected to the German
engineer Gottlieb Daimler, who sold his patent name to the
British firm while cars continues to manufactured in Germany under the Daimler
name. Daimler as well as in Germany
has, since 1896, been the car marque of the British
Daimler Motor Company, based in Coventry, England. The

patent rights to
the Gottlieb Daimlers engine were purchased in 1893 by Frederick
Simms In 1924 in Germany, the Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft merged with Karl Benzs
company
to form the Daimler-Benz car company which built Mercedes-Benz
cars and trucks. In 1998 Daimler-Benz took over the Chrysler Corporation to form DaimlerChrysler.
Known as Britains
oldest car marque, Daimler became the official transportation
of Royalty in 1898. So you are in good company if you drive one. The Queen of
England has a few also. The British Daimler company has also been heavily
involved with the production of military transport, including tanks, especially
during World War Two; and after the war, buses. Since 1960 the name Daimler
continues to be used to for high end top-line XJ Jaguar cars. As of 2007
British Daimlers production is limited to only one model, the Daimler Super Eight, a superb luxury limousine.
British Daimlers are sold under a different name in the US
to avoid confusion with the DaimlerChrysler Corporation.

Introduced to the UK
in September 1997, the Daimler Super V8 continues to this day to be the highest
luxury vehicle in the Jaguar lineup. The first new
Daimler model for seven years, were launched in 2005, the latest Daimler Super Eight
offering amazing luxury and innovative design, combining the latest Jaguar technology
with the timeless craftsmanship of the Daimler luxury brand. Expect luxurious
Burr Walnut wood veneer trim on the dashboard, soft leather upholstery and
thick lambs wool carpets. Behind the famous signature fluted grille there is
also a 4.2 litre 400 BHP
supercharged V8 engine which is a current masterpiece of car technology. The
refined six-speed automatic gearbox ensures smooth power delivery. Computer
controlled air-damped suspension provides decisive, precise handling even at
high speeds. Equally equipment levels are generous allowing passengers
unrivalled comfort. The Jaguar Daimler is in insurance group 20, the highest
bracket. All Jaguar Daimler models are an expensive insurance prospect.
