VW Sharan

Overview

Launched in 1996 the Sharan is a quality larger size seven seater people carrier. Its more expensive than many of the alternatives from other manufacturers but does offer some extra features and a good reputation for reliability. A wide choice of petrol and diesel engines are available and there was also a 4motion all-wheel drive model during the initial production run. In 2004 it was given a makeover developing a more contemporary look. From 2006 there was another transformation refining the elegance and the range was cut down. Expect further enhancements from what is becoming a good seller for VW.

In 2006 Volkswagen decided to reduce the number of vehicle engine, trim and specification combinations on a number of models, including the Sharan. The main changes were withdrawn upholsteries.

VW Sharan Facts

The name Sharan is derived from a Persian word meaning Carrier of Kings.

The Sharan was awarded a three star NCAP crash test rating by the European New Car Assessment Programme out of a possible five stars.

VW describes the Sharan seats as business class, on account of the space and comfort inside.

Another good feature of the current Sharan is the flexibility of removing the rear seats so you can use up to 2,610 cubic litres of storage.

New models are available in S, SE, Sport. Accessories include iPod connectivity, 6 speed CD changer. Leather upholstery available on Sport model only. Cloth and Anthracite options on other models. Metal and pearl effect paintwork available at extra cost.
