I read this book a little over a two weeks ago. I had been searching for a good book to read when I stumbled upon this title and all the reviews for it made it seem like the fiction book reader's heaven. So, I thought I'd give it a try. I was, however, very disappointed.
First of all, there was nearly no description in this book. I mean, who wants to read 'she did this' or 'he did that' with absolutely no detail in between? *Yawn* The book had no character; and I do wonder how it got published.
Another thing that greatly disappointed me was the 'thirteen reasons.' Now, I'm sure many people do commit suicide for similar reasons as Hannah Baker (main character). The reasons were obviously believable, but it made the story line such a bore. I waited over half the book to find out why Clay (the other main character) was a reason she committed suicide, and of course, he wasn't! He was just a connecting piece to the next person. I mean, what's the fun in that? Where's the juicy gossip-y reasons it was lacking?
The ending was decent. At least the kid stopped the next girl from committing suicide, or so we can only suspect. But hello, Mr. Asher, you kind of left us hanging with the ending. That's okay, next time you can do better. I just can't guarantee I'll be one of your faithful followers.
The only reason I'm giving this book two stars is due to the fact that it didn't make me fall asleep. It could have been much more intriguing though.
