“A very sad place for animals. I will not be returning.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by taMcHugh126 on 14/04/2014

I just went to Shepreth Wildlife park last weekend with my husband and 2 year old daughter and I just found it a very disappointing and sad experience. I do like zoos and I was looking forward to visiting the park, having heard good reviews about it. Unfortunately, I found the place depressing and disappointing. First of all it is very small but still very expensive. A lot of the enclosures were empty. There often only one sign about what was contained in the enclosure, and not obvious to find. But the worse thing was seeing several of the animals displaying behaviours clearly related to being in enclosed spaces, i.e. pacing up and now repeatedly. I may have expected that of the big cats, as this small zoo doesn't seem a place big enough for them, but actually the two tigers looked quite happy just sleeping there. No, surprisingly, it was the lynx and raccoon that were pacing up and down the same route, over and over, like prisoners in their cells. But even more unexpected was the armadillo that was frantically running in a circle over and over like a madman. I am not an animal expert but even I could tell that these behaviours were the result of stress or boredom. The play area is probably the best thing about the park, but doesn't justify the £11 per adult that you pay at the entrance! I think they should just give up on the big animals. This park is just not geared up for it. I will not go back.

they say wonderful things come in small packages and this definitely sums up Shepreth. The animals are housed in suitable exhibits, looking lively and enjoying enrichment opportunities! All keepers are knowledgeable within there area and are only too happy to answer any questions, they really do show passion for their animals. a great value for money day out for all the family, would recommend it to everyone looking for a day outdoors.

“A Good and Varied Collection !”

★★★★★

written by LPH17 on 15/01/2013

Something for everyone here from the smallest insects to the largest tigers ! Dedicated keepers with a passion for their animals. Always good to visit, but especially good on one of the 'special' days such as the Tiger Day, which are held throughout the year. Good provision for children if the day is wet and plenty to do on sunny days too, as well as looking at the animals. This wildlife park not only keeps a varied collection, but also fund raises for endangered species, keeps native species too and manages to rescue hedgehogs on top of everything else. Punches well above it's weight! LPH

“Lovely personal experience”

★★★★★

written by GreenApple9 on 11/01/2013

Recently took my niece to Shepreth and although it was cold, we had a lovely day. There weren't many people there so we got to talk personally with all the staff at each animal talk, and felt like we had a truly personal experience! The staff seemed to know a lot about their animals, and were happy to answer my nieces "sillier" questions, like "how high can it jump?" etc!! Being cold, some of the animals were hiding in their nice warm houses, but with some patience, we managed to see pretty much everything. When we got a bit too cold, we went for lunch in the large cafe and playbarn, which had some great childrens play equipment. Overall a lovely day out, and we'll definitely be going back in the summer!

“My 4th Visit”

★★★★★

written by johnny872 on 11/01/2013

I have just written my second review on TripAdvisor about this park and then came across this review centre. To say I was shocked to see one particular negative report is putting it mildly and I wonder if this person has actually been to the same zoo as me. My first visit was last year and since then I have been back a number of times at different times of the year and on each visit I have been very impressed. The animals are happy and the enclosures are brilliant for the size of the zoo. There are plenty of animals to see from bats, rabbits, lemurs, pony's, wallabies, otters, parrots, owls, little monkeys and tigers, to name a few. So many animals there to list. The tiger feeding is fantastic and the education centre is very well run and fun! All the staff I have spoken to on each visit have been very pleasant and helpful and the keepers talks which go on all day at different enclosures are informative and tailor made for the particular audience. The whole day out is a pleasure whatever time of year I have been and I will be going back a few times this coming year too.

Brilliant place to take kids. Super-helpful staff. Love the fact that enrichment and education are priorities. Lucky to have Sheprethwildlifepark on my doorstep and go there often. Prices in line with other similar locations.

“Why the negative review?”

★★★★★

written by on 10/01/2013

Don't listen to the obviously moronic negative review of the park. I have visited the park on multiple occasions with family and friends and have not had a bad word to say about the place. The staff have always been helpful and accommodating with any questions we have had about the animals and the regular talks that occur I have found informative. The enclosures for the animals seem perfectly suitable in both size and more importantly the right type of habitat for them. There is an information centre for the children to learn more about the animals of the park as well as native species to the area. I also find the entrance fee to be fair in comparison to other wildlife parks and as this is a family run park I would prefer to support an help them. Keep up the good work all at the park and you will certainly be seeing me again soon!!

Amazing what they've done with this site. Surprising selection of animals in a nice size to explore without being overwhelmed. Seem to have a real interest in native species conservation as well with a new dedicated hedgehog hospital. Staff happy to answer questions with a smile.

“shepreth prison”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 11/11/2012

wow, this place is depressing , 1 animal in each section , these animals looked dead and and given up ,not a place i will be returning to, i would advise not to give your money to support such a prison, i love going to see animals in zoos, where they atleast look happy and enthusiastic where they have multipal animals with eachother. i will not be spreading a good word about shepreth wildlife prison where animals are kept in bad conditions. and at £10.50 ripoff this should without a doubt be FREE

This place is amazing. I took my kids there before Xmas and they had an amazing time, keepers were polite and engaging and we could get close up to most of the critters there. We could stop and ask staff all sorts of questions and they answered and chatted to the kids for ages. There are plenty o educational activities and its not just exotic animals but also farm and native animals as well.

“Hidden Gem!!”

Having lived in the local area for nearly 4 years. We finally decided to pay a visit to our local wildlife park 'Shepreth'. We took our son there for his 3rd birthday and I have to say I was extremely pleased and surprised at the range of animals and educational information available. The park is just the right size to keep younger children entertained, with plenty of outdoor and indoor play areas to keep them amused. I would highly recommend paying a visit. We now intend to sign up for an annual pass.

“I cannot reccommend Shepreth enough. ”

I cannot reccommend Shepreth enough.
Son was very scared of animals and the satff were brilliant with him!
There is a great range of animals, but not too many of any to overwhelm anyone!
They have a great outside play area with a pirate boat climing slide thing and various other climbing/slides aswell as a couple of rides you can put money in to go on if you want. they even have a little train for your chugginton type fans!!!
They have a lovely yummy cafe with good food (sandwiches / hot pizza/ coffee tea etc) at a reasonable price and yummy home made cake! they have a good little indoor soft play area.
Lots of hand washing stations dotted around (and good clean toilets)!
I think shepreth is suitable for everyone and every age, they have good diabled access and good pushchair access, and to be honest i cant wait to go back!!!

I recently visited shepreth wildlife park with my three children (6,4 and 1) and we all had an absolutely brilliant day out. The staff were really friendly and the animal talks we listened to were really interesting and held the attention of my children which is not always easy to do! There were lots of opportunities for the children to interact with the animals, particularly in the discovery room which was great. We had lunch in the new cafeteria which also has an amazing soft play area. There was a good choice of food which was very tasty and good value. We then spent the next few hours in the outdoor play area which has a great pirate ship and fort. All in all, we had a brilliant day. It was definately good value for money as we spent the whole day there. My children are already asking when we can go back again and our whole family would recommend it to anyone looking for a great zoo day out.

After reading some other (critical) reviews of Shepreth Wildlife Park, I wasn't sure what to expect. However the park certainly delivered for us - providing five hours of entertainment for three children aged 2, 4 and 6.

It's not huge, but there was still plenty to see and some good hands-on animal experiences. The education centre was only too happy to let the children hold stick insects and rats, and they also stroked rabbits, donkeys, goats and horses. Plus the great nocturnal section included a darkened walkway where bats flew right overhead.

The soft play area and adventure playground were good, and the food prices were not as expensive as I've come across at attractions elsewhere. Yes, there are some sections where you have to pay extra, but we didn't bother - and still found there was enough to keep everyone happy. A good day out.

We had a great time at this very well kept park. It has a lovely feeling about the entire place and you can see the care and attention that has gone into all details. A great variety of animals that our kids (4 & 7) really enjoyed seeing in well kept animal friendly enclosures. They had a wonderful time in the playbarn and in the outdoor playarea which they spoke about for weeks after! The keepers were enthusiastic and knowledgeable and entertained the kids with talks and hands on experiences in waterworld and bug city. All-in-all a fun and enjoyable day out that the kids just don't stop talking about!!!

Shepreth Wildlife Park is a lovely place to visit for a day as its just the right size to make your way around and not feel exhausted at the end of it! It has a variety of animals to look at and lots of different enclosures. My little girl loved the tropical house and the nocturnal house where it is all in the dark and the bats fly free (although I was a bit scared!!). The tigers and monkeys were obviously a favourite too. It rained when we were there but thankfully there was still lots to do and the indoor fun barn came in really useful when it was pouring. This is why I think the place is great as you can never rely on the weather and sometimes you just want a friendly sized place to enjoy an afternoon. I highly recommend a visit!

I have been taking my children to Shepreth Wildlife Park near Cambridge on and off for 12 years now. It is a very imaginative use of a small zoo/sanctuary, it is well kept, clean, relaxing and interesting. There is loads to see - all designed in a comfortable manner. Animals all appear content, enclosures clean and busy to give interest to the residents. Every year at least one new attraction is added so the place is always changing. My kids (13,9 and 5 years) all love it and we manage to lose many hours there when we visit.
The pirate ship is a huge hit in the play area, as is the zip wire and now the soft play barn too. On a sunny day- lounging in the play area is a great way to end the day (for me while they play).
The bat house is a great feature and quite magnificent in its offering as bats swoop over your head - we all love that the most. Although the kids also really love watching the tigers and lemurs too.
The staff are very friendly and offer excellent talks and displays too and sometimes you even get to touch creatures too such as skunks, birds. lizards, snakes etc. The Education centre is fantastic and for anyone with kids - you must make time to visit the team up there- they have amazing exhibits and creatures to hold and learn about.
It's a well rounded excellent day out away from the sofa for the whole family!!

We had a lovely day at Shepreth with our 2 year old, I thought the park was laid out really well and though the range of animals was a bit ltd many were displayed imaginatively. The park and enclosures were generally clean and well maintained and we found it ideal for yound children as it was not to crowded even on a sunny saturday in july and not many older kids as it would prob not be enough there to entertain them. The outside play area was just enough to supplement the other attractions, we didnt use the inside one.
Unfortunately on the down side the baby changing and toilet areas were not so good, baby changing smelt like the nappy bin hadnt been emptied for a while! the food was not brilliant but most people had picnics which we would do next time.
Also take some hand sanitising gel as there are lots of farm animals around that can be fed or stroked and we found that gel was not always available close by and that several times gel or soap at these stations had run out.
It is also quite expensive especially for kids but I guess its an expensive place to maintain!

We took our 3 children here at the weekend (sunday) and had a very enjoyable few hours.
For a start the place wasn't rammed so it was nice to be able to wander & stop at our leisure.
The park itself isn't huge which was great with our lazy kids..!!! but the animal enclosures were well kept & the walk through bat enclosure was particularly scary..!!!!!!!! The keeper talks were nice & informal with staff willing to take as many questions as were thrown at them.
All in all a pleasant place to spend the afternoon although the prices are a little high when you add on Bug world....over 40 pounds for the 5 of us.
