The key element that makes for an effective support team is the ability to identify with the user's experience level. A good support man/woman is one who has been there, done that, made the same mistakes, and through hell and high water has come out of it with the idea that maybe they could help someone else.
When you are not at all sure of what you are doing, the support team will always have the patience to listen, suggest, and help you out.
