Managed to transfer my domain to 123-reg and then got completely lost. However, I got on to the live chat with Cristian and Marian and had things explained precisely and simply, which is a first in my expereince with companies such as this.
I'm now off to purchase all the things I need and get our site back out there. And rest assured that if I need help - and I probably will, being dense! - my first port of call will be the superb on-line chat help desk.
