“Works Well”

written by Doctorwhodini on 19/07/2012

I bought one to copy a TV show recorded on VHS to DVD. The conditions weren't ideal, because I was using a low spec netbook as the Windows XP PC(1.6 ghz chip and one meg of RAM) and a source VHS tape that had been recorded in low quality. So how did I get on? Everything installed easily. To give the netbook its best chance, I disabled virus checkers and everything I could running in the background that might slow it down. The results were remarkably good. There was the odd video glitch here and there, but I think that was the result of the original (feeble) recording quality of the VHS. I was very impressed indeed. So I can't recommend it highly enough.

Installed fine. Conquered how to capture the Video to burn to DVD.Please though someone tell me why it captures and when burned to DVD it appears in Black and white. I have tried manuals searched the net but cannot find an answer. The software will be good once I get it running properly

I bought this Dvd creator in November last, and have been struggling with
it since . The instructions are sketchy to say the least.I have rung the customer srvice for help, but no luck. Ican capture the video without any trouble, but to import it to a dvd is another thing altogether.Itcomes to a full stop after telling me that my material was unsupported ( whatever that means) I feel so frustrated especially as I have the film strip converter and the USB turntable and they have given no problems at all

I bought that Pinnacle Dazzle some years ago and it cost me '55. It was a load of rubbish' and PCWorld would not take it back. Then I noticed aldi selling this one' thought I would have a go as I know they would take it back. But to my surprise its very good. If you have a decent VHS copy it will turn out ok on a dvd using this. So aldi wont be getting this back.

Only problem I've had is when trying to record from a VHS video camera, the data records but aafterwards the pop up window says `format not supported` with no explanation as to what it means. none in instructions either. Seems to be a problem with the software rather than the converter

I bought this not to transfer old video's but to copy DVD's onto my PSP and Ipod (something I'm sure is fully legal as I've bought the DVD and chose to watch it personally on a mobile device) and this gets around almost all incryption software and produces a perfect image on my mobile devices. I was a little concerned that converting digital to analogue and back would effect quality but I use a PS3 to play the DVD (one BlueRay I've so far tried wouldn't copy due to protection) and a Windows XP PC to record with no problems at all. Picture on PSP3000 looks great and good stereo sound.

I tried to convert from an old video player with just a scart socket for output. I connected using the scart adapter, but not get a signal from the video at all. I've made all the connections correctly and tried it with and without an S video cable aswell as red white and yellow, but no luck.

I'm pretty hard to please, but after spending a lot of time trying to find a way to transfer VHS tapes to my PC, and also on software for Video editing, I stumbled upon this package and figured I couldn't lose much for $12 dollars (the price of a movie ticket).
I spent much more on video software that kept crashing. Everything worked beautifully and in no time I had my first video on Youtube. The only thing I had to provide was an extension for the RCA connections from the adapter to the VCR - which I happened to have.
I'm getting a second package for loaning to friends, so as not to risk losing MINE.

This Tevion DVD Maker was easy to setup, came with everything you need and its fairly cheap too one thing i noticed about this product well more the software, the quality seems not very good, but get your hands on roxio's media creator software, the software was alot better I paid £20 for the tevion but when i found the same looking product from roxio with the decent software for £45 i would have gone for that but for a cheap way of doing what it is intended for its fabulous

The Tevion DVD Maker setup wasn't too bad even for a greybeard.
Use wasn't too bad either.
but... ... what instructions? pretty bad and leaving loads unexplained.

I CAN'T GET SOUND TO RECORD NO MATTER WHAT. Tevion DVD Maker is small, should be perfect - if only I could get that sound. I found that an adaptor (scart to pin) was needed AND a lead male to male as the adaptor and the Tevion both had female leads. My model is VS-USB2800D

I'm using it with Windows Vista Home Premium. I've had no hiccups with either loading or using the software. I've used Windows Movie Maker and although it has many good points and has more options regarding transitions and effects, ArcSoft ShowBiz is more user friendly. Best of all was the price, AUD$39.95 from Aldi. The software can be used without the Tevion USB device, thereby allowing .wmv files, from any source, to be saved as a DVD.

“ Aldi stores sell this DVD Maker under their Tevion...”

★★★★☆

written by BobTech on 06/04/2008

Aldi stores sell this DVD Maker under their Tevion brand but it appears to be identical to the Dexatek unit which looks the same, has exactly the same model number and includes the same software.
After I got a refund on the Belkin F5U228 DVD Creator I reviewed here recently, I bought the DK-8701 on special at Aldi. I wasn't expecting it to work very well, but as they say, it rocks! It was very soon up and running and I was successfully saving old videotapes onto my hard drive. Now I'm starting to run out ouf hard drive space, but that's another story.
It took a bit of practice and experimenting, but I was able to edit my video files and create a fairly professional-looking DVD which plays properly on my DVD player, from some of them.
If you're looking for a good USB 2.0 video + audio grabber, I recommend this one way ahead of the Belkin F5U228 and the Cypress USB201 which I also experimented with and was equally disappointed by.

Bobtech's Response to BobTech's Review

Review Centre isn't a good place to discuss how to use products. There are lots of newsgroups inhabited by people who do video encoding etc and you're likely to get good advice if you post your question on one of those. Sorry I can't help any more than this. :(

I bought a Tevion DVD creator some years back to use on my computer which played Windows Vista. I have since bought a computer which is played through Windows 7, and although I can record the picture okay I can't record the sound. Why is that?
