Just purchased a 60 plate with only 16000 miles and have to stay they are great looking vans but am a little concerned about tyre wear. Can you not get a XL (extra load) tyre which has a 99w rating to fit wheel size? Is there anyone who has tried or knows? please help

“My first impressions”

★★★★★

written by on 08/08/2011

I am very happy of owning the sport van from new for the last three months. It is really great looking, comfortable, and powerful. Three thousand km on the road now and everything working ok. The only thing I don't like is the green colour of the car computer display. It’s very difficult to read the information shown on the display, because of the poor display colour resolution. This is something that has to be changed.

“transit sportsvan abs system refuses and topspeed 160 km/h”

★☆☆☆☆

written by ronglas on 24/06/2011

first of al sorry for my english, i bought the car new at the dealer it started with driving on the highway when i had to make an emergency stop and the ABS system refuses, had to pump 2 more times before it works. The dealer checked out the car several times but couldn`t find anything. The same [problem happened 8/10 times that year before they decided to replace the ABS pumpsystem. Two days later when i stood still on a hill i was suprised that the stood still for about 4 seconds, called the garage whit a complane that the brakes where blocking, received a call back after 5 min whit the announcemend that the car had HILL ASSIST suprised as i was this was never told to me but it maby explanes why i had to change the brakes completly before 10.000km and i have also got the same problems whit the tyres. Then something else, i would like to know what other owners think about the speed ot the transit sportsvan, my van`s topspeed is 160 km/h and after tuning it`s know 170 pk the topspeed is still 160 km/h only accelleration is much better. I like to hear some more experiances about ABS and Topspeed of the sportsvan. Greetings Ron - Holland e-mail [email protected]

bought van march 2010, sea grey, silver bonnet stripes, van has had a lot of jealousy from fellow dudes in my joinery trade as it looks fantastic in comparison to their basic white junk!!, had roof leak issues and other minor probs but dealer in aberdeen been quite good at resolving them...then doin more damage...grrr!!!van turns heads everywhere and ill be gettin a stainless exhaust with quadruple pipes made soon to shut the mockers up!!, bit overpriced but i work hard and deserve the acclaim!!!

Had my sport van 6 months now and love it. Was worried about the tyre issue but ive done 9000 miles and ive still got just under half of the tread left! The bluetooth can be a bit flaky but ive been told alot of ford stuff is the same. Everyone comments on it too. Cant fault it at all.

“I bought my black 2009 Transit 260 Sport Van from...”

★★★★☆

written by on 10/02/2011

I bought my black 2009 Transit 260 Sport Van from Marshalls at Cambridge, traded in my Mazda 5 MPV, only 4000 miles on the clcok, but it just WASN'T Transit. I had been driving an old "L" reg, 1993 "Smiley Face" low roof for the last 13 years, don't do that many miles a year but it was time to upgrade. The Sport van I bought had been modifed inside with a massive great wide full FOUR person seat. It folds down flat if you wanted a sleep out in the van and also folds up flat against the back of the front three seats, giving MOST of your van space back when required and can be used as a full 7 seat MPV when you need it. Side walls and roof lining all fully carpeted and insulated behind the boards and privacy black glass (with sliding vents) fitted in the side sliding door and the panel behind the drivers seat. Would have been nice to have an interior mirror and some glass in the back doors. Hopefully when my pockets are not so deep or my arms get longer :-)
Having six gears, air con , cruise control and a six CD changer with an extra couple of speakers fitted in the back, makes this as nice to drive as any car I have ever owned and is a lot easier on my bad back getting in and out of it than a lower vehicle.
From the back it just looks like an old black van, which has supprised a few Audi drivers on the motorway when they flash me to move over and then see me sitting in their rear view mirror for a lot longer than they expected.
SPARE WHEEL? or the LACK of......very disappointing.
Like I am really going to trust that this squirty stuff is going to work when I need it?I DON'T THINK SO!
I have made up some metalwork which fits from the tie down bracket over the left whelarch and bolted into a couple of spare holes near the rear light cluster (my years of working in engineering wern't wasted:-) and one of my old 14" spare wheels from the old Transit is only ONE INCH smaller diameter than the 18" low profiles normally fitted.
AND this old spare will ONLY fit over the rear disc brake. The front front disc is a larger diameter and it is impossible to fit one of the older wheels, something of a safety feature as far as I am concerned. How many people have you seen driving a front wheel drive car with a "space saver" spare mounted on the front end of the car....SCARY OR WHAT??

Would I buy another Transit if I didn't have this one?

YEP....no problem.

“Had this van from brand new. The van looks the part...”

★★★☆☆

written by on 27/11/2010

Had this van from brand new. The van looks the part but not really the part for a work tool. Had many issues with this van which to be fair to Ford have been sorted but took too much of my time. The screws to the steps (front bumper) were rusty and left bad stains on the alloy steps, these were replaced three times under the warranty as the same problem kept occurring, now the screws have been upgraded to avoid this problem but what a waste of the the plates when they should have upgraded the screws the first time the under the warranty. The main problem (let down) is the tyre issue with these vans. Mine is ready for its 5th set on the front now after only doing 36,500 miles. They are not cheap and certainly puts me off the van as who wants to be replacing tyres that soon. I have done well compared to many as I have had an average of 9,000 miles to a set but its still not acceptable. I was in talks with Ford about this and was brushed away so many times so time came to get some back up as I was told the same as everyone else, "not had any other complaints". Set a thread up on the www.transit.org site (Calling all Transit Sportvan owners) and this led to a protest at Brentwood with What magazine and the TV cameramen present. We were all looked after very well as they then listened to our issues with the tyres and were upgraded to the later Michelin tyres. (Still not that great for tyre wear on these vans. We were all then given the name by Ford as 'The Brentwood 9' (Cheggs is one of them) so suppose will go down in the Sportvan history book. LOL. Clayton

Excellent van since remap carried out, putting out 172 bhp. Better than driving a car. Great valur for money. I have had no issues what so ever with this van it has been a pleasure to drive. Since the remap it is giving me excellent mpg for a van of this size.

Interesting I have the same van but converted to a motor home. It's a 2008 and after 14,000 miles it broke down - suspected injector prob which caused a hole in the piston which meant a new engine! £3000. Now 1000 miles later broke down again - this time ford say new turbo! £2200. Is this just bad luck or a known problem. Lost all confidence in this vehicle which was supposed to be used for relaxing weekends away with the family but instead caused huge stress, lots of time waiting for tows and a huge amount of money!

“I have had transit vans for years & had no problems...”

written by on 13/07/2010

I have had transit vans for years & had no problems with them at all so when ford brought out the 'rolls royce of transit vans'I just had to buy it! What a mistake!A total waste of money,it is unreliable as the turbo cuts out almost everyday, the tyres are a total joke, the engineer at fords admitted off the record that this model have a real bad problem with the wheels buckling causing the tyres to wear,he said the only solution was to sell it privately as fords part ex scheme was a joke and would only offer me bottom book on it, or buy new wheels then offered to sell me a new set for £1,200.WHAT A JOKE!In 2 years I have bought 14 tyres at a cost of £1,678.67,I am now about to go down the tyre bay to have yet another replaced!Last week while driving along the crank pulley bearings collapsed resulting in the crank pulley wearing a big hole in the side of the crank case dumping every drop of oil in it, splashing over the brakes, body & underside!i called out the rac who could not tow me to fords as it was now closed so i had to be took home on a trailer, when calling fords the following morning i was told i had to call out the rac again to deliver my sv to them as they do not provide a collection service, they then had my van for 4 days, they refused to provide me with a courtesy vehicle! when i collected it,it was still covered in oil, they had not changed the brakes as they seem to think brakes dripping in oil is perfectly safe to drive!!!!!I CERTAINLY WOULDNT EVEN CONTEMPLATE DEALING WITH FORDS AGAIN,THEIR CUSTOMER CARE IS SHOCKING

van looks good ecomonical 33 mpg Had issue with turbo hose coming off AA man said common problem with 2.2 Engine due to poor clips, tyre life ok my van came fitted with Michelen primacy Hp tyres Front tyres lasted 19,000 miles rear tyres still only half worn, I see other vans come fitted with conti sport contact tyres maybe there soft compound, 245/45/18/100Xl tyres will fit the 7.5J rims much more common size than 235 you can get mid range tyres online for £100 and premium for about £140 upwards, no jack, wheel spanner and Spare wheel carrier come with the van, 16 inch spare wheel with 205 65 profile tyre should come with the van instead of tyre sealent I experience with a front wheel puncture sealent would not repair tyre

“I Bought a brand new transit sport in september from a...”

★★☆☆☆

written by SLATES on 24/05/2010

I Bought a brand new transit sport in september from a reconised ford dealer . After closer inspection I discoverd CV boot split , overspray around passenger door lock , and passenger door not shutting right , runs in paintwork around front wheel arch and above side skirt , dirt in paint work up near side ,overspray over side door rail , large bubble of paint on roof peeling , bonnet out of line , screws holding front bumper on missing , black transfer on front spoiler peeling , dent below filler cap . I am now told that the sport van is built in Turkey and not the Uk , I have also discoverd the kit is not supplied in house but by an outside firm. I was also dissapointed with the lack of under seal on the under side of the vehicle with large bits missed . I think if the Sport Van was competing against the rest of the van world on looks it would win hands down as proved to be a real head turner , The performance was pretty good as well , the cabbin was very spacious with good visabilty and good leg room and a comfortable seating position however I did miss the second arm rest as fitted on previous models. Hill Launch excellent idea taken I think from the Landrover Discovery . I did find the ride a bit bumpy and the shock on the near side possibly suspect ,It also struggled when pulling avay with a trailer on and stopping was a bit of an effort , but for being the RS of the ford van range I think the Ford Management really need to get back to the factory floor and sort the finishing touches out as lets not forget this is a £20k + vat van it has the looks but needs to be improved on build quality .
Needless to say I returned the van and spent a month off the road with no vehicle and paid a solicitor and a qualified vehicle acessor several hundred pounds on gettting a refund Fords Customer Service did not help at all .
I would consider another one but will wait until Ford get there act together or bring back the man who was in charge of the Mk2 RS Escort , or the Cossie Sierra.

Transit sportvan, black, 2 leather heated seats fitted rather than bench seat. Its an excellent van love it, just dont love the tyre wear. 25k miles and onto third set on front. Got 14k out of second set which were Kuhmo. This is better than 9k on the continentals that were originally fitted. So another set on today, hopefully another 14k miles on these ones. They are not too badly priced either. The only headache is getting a punture, bloody stupid goo and compressor dont seem to do a lot

written by LLCJ4 on 08/01/2010

Bought the van in July, I've had 5 transits previous, Panther Black, Ford fully lined rear, first 2 services towbar and tank of diesel for free. Drives like a dream, no tyre problems, after 8k, yet. Only problem has been trim rattle under nearside wiper, had been booked in for 6/01/10, but Ford wouldn't road-test in snow, so has to be re-booked. I'm planning to superchip or Bluefin upgrade, any thoughts on this ? Cheers. James Weldon. P.S. Ford have said there is a 5 pot, Volvo, engine,180bhp, lined up for the New Sport.

I love my Ford Transit Sport Van 2. I have chipped and delimited it and to address the tyre issue I have filled them with Nitrogen so the walls dont flex as much and at 6000 miles the tyres look perfect, I sometimes find the van starts and cuts out but I am updating the ECU this week so hopefully that will be sorted with the update.I have put an HID kit which is perfect.
