As with everyone else he filter clogs and leaves a trail of mess worse than when started! I don't understand how vax still have it on the market, and can justify taking our money! I have given it a one star rating but it should really be -1! (read more)

I think I have solved why my Vax power 8 pet has been useless since almost the first week of use, After revisiting their web site before chucking the thing away I found something I had not spotted before That there is meant to be a seal on the outer rim of the dust emptying flap of the dust cylinder. OH? I can not recall one being there and must assume that it went in the bin with the first lot of dust being emptied. Now to me to have a seal which is on a flap where it opens and is shaken... This has got to be the WORST MOST USELESS PIECE OF JUNK I have ever had the misfortune of buying. I was taken in by the spec of such a powerful motor, size of canister and length of lead. Dirt and pet hair gets stuck at the entrance to the cylinder and blocks it. Dirt comes out the bottom of the cylinder and blocks the filter within a couple of minutes use. It blows out dust everywhere. The hose has no suction at all and won't even suck up a cobweb, (i'm sure i could here the spiders... (read more)

I've had problems with this vacuum from the start. The suction was great for normal hoovering but all the dirt collected at the top of the fancy spiral thingys and never made it into the clyinder. And using the nozzle end was pointless, no suction at all. I rang vax about the problem and the lady knew what was wrong straight away I was missing a rubber seal on the base of the cylinder; she sent a new cylinder out to me for free. Since putting this new cylinder on suction has improved... (read more)

Bought this vacuum today to replace my old dyson totally regret buying now! Started hoovering like normal and worked fine its only when you pull out the hose that you realise the faulty design!! The hose is far too small and barely has any pull in it...I was literally crouched beside it hoovering the corner when the thing came flying towards me and poked my eye! In other words you cannot use the hose function without it collapsing on you! It's very unstable - I warn anyone using it to be... (read more)

Leaves more dirt and pet hair behind than what it picks up. The filter clogs within 2 minutes of use so spend more time cleaning out the vacuum than actually trying to get it to pick up whats on the floor. I`ve bought vacuums that were half the price, that have done a better job. (read more)

I was taken in by the technical specification ( "air wattage") over that of say a Dyson (that I have used for the past decade) and therefore justification for paying at least £120 more for a vacuum cleaner, when this Vax machine seemed to offer an extraordinary package for the money. I now know why there is the price differential and why it is worth paying it! This Vax model cannot have been rigorously tested by the manufacturer for average domestic use, let alone in properties... (read more)

Good at picking up but you can only do this for 5 mins before the filter gets blocked and you spend another 5 mins cleaning it.. When the filter is clogged you can't get any suction in the hoses. Thought this was the best thing since sliced bread for a whole 5 mins. (read more)

This really is the most infuriating vacuum hoover I have ever come across. There are several features which leave me completely confused as to what on earth the designer (if you can call them that) was thinking. Once youve learnt to deal with the minor but no less irritating features such as a far too short hose and awkward return to upright postion, which both result in the vacuum falling over more times than I care to mention, you get to the most ridiculous and unforgivably useless design... I wish I had read some reviews before purchasing this utterly useless contraption! It worked perfectly for 5 minutes ... until the filter clogged! We washed the filter and re-installed it but it did no good! The cyclonic techology just doesn't happen. Like other reviews i have now read, i have to take the damn thing apart every 5 minutes to unclog the top where the dirt and pet hairs first enter the vac. It simply doesn't make it any further then this point - certainly not as far as the... (read more)

I completely agree with you on every point. BTW, you don't need the receipt, just proof of purchase so a bank statement or credit card statement will be fine.

Used to have a Panasonic with a bag, thought we'd try a bagless. Big mistake. The dirt does not make it into the clear collector. When you turn it off the dirt falls back onto the carpet! The HEPA filter blocks within minutes and you lose all suction. The Turbo brush thing does not rotate, I guess it is meant to be sucked round, but without any suction it doesnt! The thing is coated in fine dust as the blockages mean the dust is blown out everywhere. Bought a Panasonic UG 302 instead. (read more)

Bought a Vax Power 8 just before christmas 2012. My first impressions on getting it out of the box were that for the money it looked quite good value. When I plugged it in and fired it up, I thought an Airbus A380 had just landed in the adjacent room! It sounds like a jet engine - believe all the reports you read when users say it's noisy - it most definately is and borders on the pain threshold. Having said all that, for the first 30 minutes of use, suction levels were great and it did what... (read more)

owned a Vax Power 8 for 3 months. On 3rd drive belt already and the suction reduces to almost nothing after one use due to the filter blocking. It also gets blocked at the inlet to the collection cannister. Rang Vax to complain, the first vax employee hung up after hearing my complaint. The second told me it was getting blocked because it is so powerful and to wash the filter!!!! Who in their right mind designs a hoover with a filter that has to be washed then dried for 24 hours every time... (read more)

wow someone agrees with me !! pet hairs clog it up , the "filter" is a joke use the hose and it tips over and the crevice tool has holes at the end of the pipe making the suction non existant ! looks great but is useless. certainly NOT suited to pet hairs . realised why it was cheap .. dont buy !!

Forgive me for wondering, but isn't a filter supposed to filter out the dirt? It seems to me that if the filter is clogging with pet hair then it is actually doing what it is supposed to do. Yes I do have one of these, and yes it does blind the filter at least for the first few uses. Then after the majority of the hairs that the old Vacuum cleaner had failed to collect had been removed by the VAX the 'problem' ceased to exist and now I clean the filter once a week. Of course I groom my dog regularly during the moulting season to remove most of the loose hair before it can get on the carpets maybe that is why I don't have the continuous clogging problem others report.

I have 2 hairy dogs and this is brilliant.I vacuum everyday and I have none of the problems that others have mentioned ie clogging up.This is my third Vax and I have never had any trouble with them.I have also had a couple of Dysons and would recommend the Vax over the Dyson every time.In fact I currently have 2 as I keep one upstairs for cleaning.Very pleased that they have increased the length of the lead.I can now clean the whole of downstairs without changing plugs. I have spent more time unblocking this vacuum inside the dirt compartment it's a complete waste of space. I contacted the company and they are sending a new filter. Can't imagine how that's going to stop it clogging up inside. If that fails they will investigate further. This product does not do the job it's designed to which is basically clean. I have no faith in this being resolved without buying another vacuum. Buyers beware. (read more)

very funny, unfortunately also very true! My Vax replaced a Dyson, how I wish I had stuck with Dyson. I sent mine back to VAX after a couple of weeks as it did not pick up. The"vacuum unblocked". I can hoover about 3 times before it 'blocks' then I have to spent approx one hour unblocking it. It is the most useless piece of equipment I have ever used. I would neither buy nor recommend a Vax again.

I'm the first to admit that I'm useless at assembling products, but I quickly managed to assemble this vacuum with ease. Easy to use on stairs and tight corners with the use of the tools provided and has excellent suction power, I was amazed to see how much dog hair which was sucked up in comparison with my previous pet vacuum. The 10m power cord was also a bonus as there was no need to keep unplugging/replugging as I had with my previous cleaner when vacuuming different sections of my... (read more)

Pros- easy to assemble, fairly lightweight, great length lead, powerful, great attachment for getting rid of pet hairs especially on furniture, extremely easy to empty. Cons- bit stubbon to click back to upright for the first few uses. Having already owned a Vax, this was a step up. It is more lightweight than my previous model and more powerful. The extra length on the lead was also a bonus. Very easy to assemble. Great on all floor surfaces (I have wooden floors, tiled floors,... (read more)

This is my first Review on any Product and what a great first Product I'm Testing! Being used to Dyson Vacuum Cleaners, which I bought mainly because of their constant Publicity, I have grown used to, and dreaded, the daily struggle trying to hoover up pet hairs around my house but then I was lucky enough to be asked to test the Vax Power 8 Vacuum and what a surprise I got, although rather noisy it does such a brilliant job that I'm willing to overlook this minor detail. With the old saying ’all I want for Xmas’ I am glad I picked this model before Xmas just to clear any unwanted mess up. I have had Vax products before but this was a long time ago and to be honest it is now probably obsolete , hence a new model . This product did not disappoint. Easy to assemble, easy to use and easy to store. It is lightweight, manoeuvres easily and with the 10mtr cable ( life saver ) and just over a 3mtr hose it covers the entire downstairs easily. The motor is very... (read more)

I totally agree this hoover is useless, the dirt goes straight to the top of the cylinder affecting suction, its even worse if you try to use the hose the suction just isn't there- its far too short to reach up the stairs, the hoover 'topples' over on you when your using the hose. I've had mine 6 weeks and regretted buying this useless piece of junk within 10 minutes of first using it and don't even get me started on the animal attachment think vax were having a laugh when they invented that!!
