Bought a Vax Power 8 just before christmas 2012. My first impressions on getting it out of the box were that for the money it looked quite good value. When I plugged it in and fired it up, I thought an Airbus A380 had just landed in the adjacent room! It sounds like a jet engine - believe all the reports you read when users say it's noisy - it most definately is and borders on the pain threshold. Having said all that, for the first 30 minutes of use, suction levels were great and it did what it said on the tin / box - but then the design faults kicked in. It blocks up every time you use it. Debris simply collects in the head of the unit and never makes it into the clear plastic collection chamber. I have spent more time taking it to pieces and unblocking it than I have using it and that it not exageration. That fault is bad enough, but what really ticked me off with the thing is the filter located at the base of the unit. This blocks every time you use it - usually within 5 minutes. Suction then drops to practically zero. Add to all this, it falls over incessantly and if you have hard floors, this is serious. In summary, a crock of ....!
