“Broken pivot wheel (no support to remedy)”

★★★☆☆

written by 1Stewart on 21/04/2015

The front pivot wheel failed 3 months into ownership. Terrible design and I can see why it wouldn't last. No help from the retailer and the manufacturer. Worse still is that they can't supply a new wheel so it's now being used with a towel wrapped around the front so it doesn't scratch the polished wood floor. Looking at other reviews it's seems like a common issue.

“Too Much Maintenance”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 28/11/2013

We have a long haired German Shepard and this vacuum is a real disappointment. The top gets clogged up way before the cylinder fills and it is an absolute nightmare to have to continually unblock this. Nice long cord is the only plus. Would not recommend. The on/off switch is very hit and miss.

“Great performance with electric shock!”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 06/12/2012

Purchased this one after have to endure poor suction from one of the chinese made vacuum they sold in ebay. Arrived today and tried straight away. This vacuum does much better than our old one, sucking everything on its way. It sucks so hard it feels like it sticks to my carpet. It pick up hairs and all the dust that we thought were not there. However, after 10 minute of usage the machine was down because of overheating. The internal filter was clogged. After we cleared the filter the machine was back on, but this time it gives me electric shock everytime I touch the power adjuster (for adjusting suction power, NOT the power cord). I tried to get other people to touch it, and everyone felt the same! Definitely electrical shock. Going to exchange or refund this one. Still worry that this is a design failure as another reviewer also mentioned about getting electrical shock.

“When it works it's great!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 08/05/2012

Third Vax hoover I have bought since February! After reading great reviews we dedided this was the hoover for us. First one purchased in Feb kept giving an electric shock, second one wouldn't turn on. Decided to try a third one as the reviews where just so good. Third one has worked great until the last few weeks when the clip that holds the actual hoover bit to the collection bit snapped off then the wheel on the hoover fell off and now the hose bit has snapped. Called Vax they are no help what so ever, luckily bought it from Sainsburys and they are going to refund. Very disappointed because it actually is a great hoover when it isn't breaking down.

“Exasperating”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 05/05/2012

Bought this model in Argos and am so disappointed with it. The dust, hairs etc clog up constantly in the central column leaving the main dust barrell empty and stopping the suction. Then there is no access to the clogged mass to clear the blockage. Tried unsuccessfully to do so with my finger whic is an unhealthy thing to doBrought the cleaner back to Argos who have referred me to a vax care line. Any good features are outweighed by the fact that it still doesn't work satisfactorily.

I am not sure if you still have the hoover, but if it is of any help the centre area that you are describing that gathers alot of hair that you are unblocking with your finger actually detaches, it is not clear in the instructions. I hope this helps, as this is one hoover I am personally over the moon with.

“POWERFUL VACUUM CLEANER FOR THOSE WITH OR WITHOUT PETS”

★★★★★

written by on 23/11/2011

First of all, the Vax Power Pet 7 cleaner was extremely easy to assemble. In fact when it arrived, I called my husband down from upstairs to help me to do it, as I usually cannot cope with technical instruction manuals. However, by the time he had come downstairs I had done it myself in only a couple of minutes, as all you had to do was to take it out of the box, connect/slot the extension hose to the front of the unit, and either the combination floor head or one of the tool accessories to the hose. It came with a selection of assorted tools including an upholstery tool, dusting brush and crevice tool, which would deal with the every surface in a house. The machine was nice and compact and lightweight, which meant it was easy to move around the house. It had a long extension tube, so as I am quite tall, I did not have to bend over all the time as I had done before with my old cleaner. This meant I did not find it as tiring to use, and the cleaning took less time to do. It came with a very long lead so I did not have to unplug it for each room, which was helpful, as I do not have to keep unplugging all the radios etc when I want to use it. The lead also retracted easily and quickly back into the machine when not in use, without any tangling. I also thought the hose was exceptionally long, as it enables me to vacuum half the stairs from the hall, and the remaining stairs from the landing. Previously I had had to drag and balance the machine on the stairs to try and vacuum some of the stairs, and inevitably the cleaner would fall off the stairs and crash down into the hall, which of course did it no good at all. We have a mixture of tiles and carpets, and the Vax cleaned both very easily. It has a powerful 2000W motor which gives very strong suction indeed. There is an adjustable dial for the power and I found I did not need to have it on more than half way for carpets, and much less for tiled floors. In fact we had had new carpets laid in several rooms about 6 months ago, and they are still producing a lot of fluff, which my old vacuum could not really cope with. I was amazed to see how much fluff the Vax picked up, because I had to empty it it after I had cleaned only 2 rooms the first time, and on full power you could see that the suction was actually lifting the carpet up from the underlay. The Vax picked up everything including all the hairs, both dog and human. The large bagless container meant it was very easy to see when it needed emptying, and the container itself was very easy to detach and clean. I am also pleased that I will now not have to spend money on vacuum bags from now on. I also quite liked to see all the fluff etc whirling around in the container, whenever I stopped for a breather, as you could see you were actually accomplishing something. Also, when you emptied the container, you could see a large amount of dust, which showed the HEPA filter was working, and which I think would be a boon for people with dust allergies. Overall I am very pleased indeed with the Vax Power Pet 7 as it is compact and lightweight, easy to store, and cleans extremely well, which is just what I needed

“fantastic”

★★★★★

written by katana on 18/11/2011

I found the vax very easy to put together and the instructions were easy to follow. It came with a good range of attachments and a HEPA filter which is washable. The vax comes with a 2.5m hose and a good length of cable which means I can do the whole house without having to unplug it for every room. The first time I used this I was shocked at the amount of fluff and dog hair came out of the carpet, and how it reduced the doggie smell. The vax was also a lot quieter and was very easy to empty. I would have no hesitation in recommending this vacuum cleaner.

“The Best Little VAX in the World, Hoovering is now a Joy!!”

★★★★★

written by on 16/11/2011

The Power 7 Pet Cylinder by Vax is an absolute must for all. The best on the market to date in my opinion. Firstly, putting together the vacuum was so easy and the attachments made cleaning my house an absolute breeze. The hose is long and the rounded handle is so much easier for all to hold including my 8 year old son who likes to help out now and again, also the extendable pole made it easy for all members of the family, as I have found that being 6ft tall you end up bending over far too much and back pain used to be an issue after vacuuming but not with this little beauty. Some of the tools you would not use on the high power suction as if like me you use it for cleaning excessive cat hair from the back of curtains or blinds, you are more than likely to suck them off the rails! But the dial on the vacuum which allows you to have minimum or maximum suction is a great initiative. I also found that hovering the stairs was so easy and for me personally that used to be the worst part of the house to hoover, especially as they are high traffic areas and not only do the cats lie on the stairs and leave excessive amounts of hair but my dogs little muddy foot prints, sons shoe prints and husband dropping dry grout when coming in from work, the stair carpet always took me 30 minutes to hoover, but with the handy tool and powerful turbo brush, I now don’t put off hovering the stairs. The tools for hovering laminate, wooden or tiled floors is also a great asset as it does not mark the floor as you are hovering and also picks up a lot more than my old hoover. Emptying the hoover is so much easier and as the filter is not in the area where the dust/hair is collected the filter does not have to be cleaned as often and the easy emptying latch is great. The hoover itself is lightweight so anyone should find this hoover easy to move around. So overall, an amazing hoover with great HEPA filtration system. Easy to use, great suction power and an assortment of tools that make hovering a lot easier. My mum has borrowed this instead of using her hoover as thinks it is amazing, so we know what we will be buying her for Xmas! I would highly recommend this hoover to anyone.

“An Asthamatic , Dog Owning Persons Best Friend.”

★★★★★

written by Khala on 15/11/2011

This machine is a joy to use. It was easy to put together straight from the box instructions were clear and well diagrammed. But O joy , a super long lead reached downstairs and up-stairs from One socket. But wait why is it so quiet? Why are my three dogs not barking.... because the pitch of this new high powered motor is so quiet it does not effect their hearing...Thank You Vax my husband can keep working without disturbance. The turbo head cleaned the carpet so well that the pile stood up again. The dog smell was removed and the room did not smell as though you had just vacuum. As an chronic asthmatic I usually dust with a damp cloth but with the vacuum lowering control I was able to dust the furniture and vacuum the curtains. The standard head was a better design than my other Vax cleaner and cleaned up to the edges. After cleaning the house for the first time with The Vax Pet 7 the dust container filled up after every room but was easy to empty and clean as were the motor filters. The savings will come as I have had to pay over £1 per bag and was using on average 3 per month due to my asthmatic condition. My floors are so clean it takes 4 rooms now to fill up the dust container. One bonus point, my husband used the small turbo head to clean the seats of the van that transport the dogs. The head has now found its way into the car cleaning box and I noticed the seats were not damp when I sat down as he usually uses s wet cloth to get the dogs hairs off. I can highly recommend this machine as it is much faster to clean and the results are fantastic.
