“Great value for money”

★★★★☆

Don't understand all the negative reviews on this vacuum. I've had one for 2 years and it's a powerful little machine easily coping with its job, doesn't overheat or cut out and is simple to empty and clean. Tip out the dust regularly, wash filters monthly and that's pretty much all the care it needs.

“Works just fine!”

★★★★☆

I have one of these and it's a brilliant little vacuum. The suction is powerful enough to lift door mats and carpet and it picks up all sorts of dirt easily. Performance only drops when the container becomes full or when the filters clog - both can be washed in minutes. It is reliable, compact and lightweight, simple to empty and clean - what more could you expect from a low-cost cleaner? Other reviewers here have complained about hoses tripping them up and and stability issues. Just use it remembering that it doesn't weigh much so it might tip over occasionally and the long plastic part of the hose doesn't retract so just watch where you are stepping! If you can't cope with those things then there are other cleaners out there but usually at a much higher cost. For a less expensive yet powerful vacuum, I have found this one to be ideal.

“Rubbish”

Having used this hoover 6 times in a tiny bedroom it made a loud whirring sound then went bang and there was a strong smell of burning. Possibly the worst household product I have ever purchased. Vax customer service poor.

“Waste of money, totally useless product”

This was on offer in Asda, fairly inexpensive but I'd had a Vax before which had been quite good. This has totally put me off Vax, will not buy another. Works okay for a few minutes, then as soon as there is just a little dust & debris inside, it clogs up and all suction is lost. At best though, when it has just been emptied, the suction is very unimpressive, it just pushes the crumbs & fluff around the carpet & you have to go over & over the same area without much effect. The metal hose keeps falling off, doesn't seem to fit properly, and the plastic hose has become detached several times. Not a fan of the bagless design, having had 2 now, I find them very unhygienic, you get filthy when they need emptied and the dust goes everywhere. Only good thing I can say about this vacuum, it looked good, nice colour and design, but who cares what it looks like really, would rather have something that actually did the job! I do not recommend Vax C88-W1B.

“rubbish!”

I would not recommend this hoover. I am on my second hoover the same as this. It takes me about 5 hours just to hoover one room because of how rubbish it is because it keeps cutting off and I have to wait about half an hour for it to come back on again. That's just after having it on for 5 minutes! I will not be getting this hoover again. Do not buy this. It is now 11:20 and I am still in my pyjamas because I am still waiting for the hoover to cone back on as I am waiting to have my shower!!

“CAUTION REQUIRED”

★★☆☆☆

written by belowstairs on 13/01/2014

I bought this from Asda who refused to publish this review. The metal tubes are too short, causing back pain after extended use. The hose is too long, creating a dangerous trip hazard in tight spaces (I stood on and tripped over the hose several times in the early stages before I learned to be very careful). The power cord is barely long enough. The cable rewind is good. The tools are mostly too small but the crevice tool is too big. The bristles of the dusting tool are too short and too stiff, making it more of a scrubbing brush. The suction is good but the power regulator does nothing for the first 33-50% of rotation. The carrying handle is attached to the canister. This detached itself from the motor section when I first lifted it, causing the heavy motor section to crash alarmingly to the floor from waist height. The filters are easy to reach, which is just as well because they must be cleaned every time the canister is emptied. This requires 24 hours to allow them to dry. And Vax recommends they be replaced every 6 months, which would double the cost of the machine before the end of the two year guarantee period. The instructions are poor and misleading.

“Worthless Guarantee”

★☆☆☆☆

written by DennisTurner on 13/11/2013

I am an ex-pat living in Portugal. Just seven months ago I purchased this machine in UK and took it home (Portugal). The motor has burned out with very limited use after just six months, I contacted the customer support at VAX to be told that I have invalidated the guarantee by taking the product out of UK. In these days of increased trade via the internet and bearing in mind Portugal is part of the EU I think the 500,000 or so expats in Europe should be made aware of the unfair fine print exclusion used by VAX. I will go out of my way to advise as many as I can not to consider their products and to buy from a company that offers consumer protection, at least throughout Europe.

“Value for money”

I bought this from a supermarket for less than £50. Suction is good and it isn't too noisy.
