“Needs some work...”

★★☆☆☆

I agree with most of the negative reviews on here. This vacuum could indeed use a lot of work!

To start with, the cord is only 6m on this vacuum, which isn't enough to clean our small bungalow! When you plug it in and turn it on, it is immediately VERY NOISY! It makes more noise than my car does when you start it - and my car is quite loud. It makes your ears ring for ages afterwards. I found myself wearing earplugs whilst vacuuming which is unacceptable! The plastic build seems OK, but it still feels very flimsy for a vacuum. It fails to pick up very much, even though it has a high powered motor. This is because it has one of those evil pleated paper filters. This will need washing after EVERY time you empty the dust container - about once a month. It also needs replacing every year at the cost of £10.99! Otherwise this results in dreadful suction - which it has anyway - and after a while, overheating.

The tools supplied are adequate but it would be nice if the turbo brush carried on rotating once it touched the furniture/carpet! The hose is terrible. it is very flimsy and it isn't stretchy, which means if you have stairs it will be impossible to vacuum more than about 5 of them without lugging the freaking thing with you.

It also has a dirt container which isn't bottom-empty. This would not be a problem if the filter stayed un-clogged long enough for the dust to be packed down. when I empty my Dyson Dc04, I usually just let it vacuum until all the dust has compressed down and it just falls out. Not so with the electrolux - it loses suction too fast so when you empty it, dust flies everywhere, but not the really fine stuff, since it isn't powerful enough to pick this up.

The price is what ruins it for the Vitesse. £100 is unjustifiable to spend on a vacuum of such poor quality - particularly when you can now get a refurbished Dyson DC04 (made in England before Dyson switched to cheap-o plastics) for about £75. Used ones in good condition go for £20-30 on eBay.

So unfortunately, I cannot recommend this vacuum.
