I studied physics.

The teaching was all pretty poor. It's not compulsory to produce lecture notes, teachers can turn up with a piece of chalk if they want to, & some do. Yet lectures are still compulsory to attend.

It seems like everything got put together in the 80's, badly, & was just left for decades.

Nothing's ever changed, or if it is it's too little too late.

I spent four years doing the degree with a foundation year & ended up failing 1 module in the 2nd year. They only let you repeat the year once, which you won't find out until they tell you to leave the uni, which is strange because if you had the money, they should let you carry on with it. Many things don't
make sense & it seems as though the cards are never in your favour.

Don't try to complain to the guy above the head of department, the dean of science, peter, you will just get a politically correct response, he will deny there is a problem, or just ignore you.

If you try to complain to anyone above him you will just get referred back to him.

All uni systems are flawed as teaching is not what's concentrated on. It's research by the teachers that brings in the stats & the money. I don't know who designed that system. God knows how anyone passes, or how the teachers managed to pass 20 or 30 years ago.

Then there's PASS. The Pastoral Academic Support System. Sounds helpful, but the only end you'll probably see of it is when you're getting some form of punishment e.g. every time you miss 2 courseworks you get a formal warning & a different coloured letter, after 3 formal warnings you are recommended to the dean to end your registration. So yes, that's 8 courseworks before you get thrown off the course. & you get about 4 a week. This is how ignorant they are.

If you fail the course, you can appeal against being thrown off, but not against the marking of your exam papers. They could've taken my coursework mark from the 1st time I did the 2nd year, which would've made the module & therefore the whole year a pass, but they didn't even though it was all the same questions. They wanted me to fill out appeals as it was evidently too much of a problem to solve, even though it meant I'd miss the start of term. They'll deny all your appeals. I done 3. The 1st was to the dean of science, the taking my best coursework mark bit was ignored & I listed problems that lead me fail, which he said there was no evidence of. My 2nd appeal was to 12 people with PhD's. I outlined the obvious ways in which the evidence could be obtained, & they said there was no evidence. The 2nd appeal had to be a 'prima facie' case, which means if it's not obvious they won't look into it. A lot of
use having 12 people with PhD's then. My 3rd appeal was ignored.

The accommodation office gave my house away twice to someone without phoning me 1st. They're always short of houses. The 1st time was when I didn't respond to a confirmation letter in time due to working in the summer, despite already confirming twice that I wanted it & paying the deposit. The 2nd was when I didn't move in for the 1st few weeks of term while I was waiting for my loan to come through.

The off campus accommodation is a rip off because you have to have a 12 month contract despite only being at uni for 9. So you pay about £900 over the summer even if you're not there.
