“Not suitable for backpacking on a budget”

Got this card so that I would have my budget for travelling and flights back without having to use my debit card. Went off to Asia with a big smile. Unfortunately most of the places I stayed wouldn't accept card payment, so I had to take money out of ATMs every so often (the maximum I could) - charged at £5 per withdrawal.

I then tried to take money from the card at a major bank company, thinking it would be cheaper to take a large amount out in one go, but it wasn't accepted as I needed to prove I was who I said I was and the card doesn't have your name on.

Several times I tried to login to my account and despite having all the login details written down I kept getting locked out - this happened 3 times in total. It resulted in the card being unusable when the account was locked. On the up side, my account was unlocked very quickly through email contact.

Finally, I attempted to buy my flight home, and for some reason I was being charged a fee for using this card - I have no idea why this fee was applied, but it wasn't applied to my debit card, so I used that instead.

Additionally, my sister had one of these cards, which she registered and should then have been able to top it up. However this was not the case and since she was abroad in a remote part of the world, between us we were unable to top it up - I was told on the phone she would have to bring ID in to a local branch to sort the problem, which is pretty useless advice when someone is abroad!

Overall I cannot recommend this card and won't be using it again, since it hasn't worked out cheaper and in fact caused more stress than it was worth!

Firstly there is no £5 for taking money out at an ATM it is £1.50. Any additional charge on that was the ATM you chose to take money out of so not the actual cards fault (read the terms and conditions next time). There is a limit to how much you can take from the card each day just like with a regular bank card. If you forget your login details you can use a memorable answer to send yourself out details. Your sister would need to verify her identity as this is a pre paid card that requires security procedures to be carried back out, again lol all explained in the terms and conditions
