“Verging on the ridiculous”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Subpost on 17/06/2016

On a recent holiday to Australia we hired a car and moved between hotels and apartments thinking we were fully covered by our Virgin Money Annual Travel Insurance, how wrong could we be!!
The car was broken into through the back passenger window and access was made to the boot via the fold down back seat.
A rucksack with our Passports,an IPad ,Binocular and several other items was stolen.
Made a Police Report, called Virgin in the UK and opened a live claim.Told not to worry sort it out with us on your return the Uk.
Subsequently filled in several forms, made two phone calls, received several emails, jumped through hoops, pleaded!!
Money and Valuables left unattended in a motor Vehicle are not covered!! By a "special exclusion" clause
So that means if you are between Hotels you can not park your car anywhere with luggage in it you have to take everything with you ,even if you just go for a coffee as we did.
Ok,accept begrudgingly that but surely I can claim for the stolen passports and the 400 Dollars spent on an emergency travel document.??
Put in your claim and we will consider it I was told only to be informed three weeks later that this also had a "special exclusion!!! As well
Passport loss is not covered unless they are lost or stolen whilst on your person or from a locked security box??!!
Really not worth the paper it is written on

  • Annual insurance

    Type of Insurance

  • Unsuccessful

    Was your claim successful?

  • Unfairly

    Were you treated fairly?

  • Value For Money
