“Very Dissapointed ”

As like most insurance companies there are lots of staff at hand when you wish to buy a policy. However, its a different case when you wish to discuss a claim, I have spent a week trying to get to speak to a member of staff regarding a possible basis for a claim. Its impossible the phone just rings out literally for hours, its hopeless!

“Buy only if you have the time to send documentation...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by LorenaMcGinnis219 on 01/11/2015

Will never again buy travel insurance. I had to put in a claim due to an emergency trip interruption. Only buy this if you have countless hours of time to send and resend information to the insurance carrier. By the time it was all said and done I actually had a hard time remembering the trip in question. When it's time to buy the plan they are touted as the best. When it's time to pay, you are better off trying to win lotto. Granted, I am sure not all insurance companies represented by these companies are the same but certainly left a bad taste in my mouth when you have to repeat the same thing over and over to a multitude of people. Probable that with risk analysis chances of getting re-imbursed promptly are probably lower than having an issue with your trip.

“Missed Flight Claim”

★★★★★

written by viking11968 on 12/11/2014

We missed our connecting flight to Zurich in Atlanta because of weather on the 1st leg causing us to spend the night in Atlanta and wait for a flight the next day. We also missed our 1st night's stay in Zurich. I called Insure My Trip and they said that would indeed warrant a claim. We filed a claim when we got back and they fully reimbursed us the hotel and meal expenses in Atlanta, as well as, the hotel for the missed night in Zurich. They asked for a lot of info to file the claim but they paid it with no hassle. Just make sure you get supporting documents from the airline. I would certainly use them again.

“Exercised claim for the 1st time!”

★★★★★

written by wevolpe on 30/05/2014

We have purchased policies through Insure My Trip numerous times. This past March we had to exercise the trip cancelation portion of the policy for the first time. The claims people were helpful and understanding. I have recommended this web site to many and will continue to do so. It does take some time to work through all the claim procedures, but not unreasonable.

“East to book, efficient way to buy insurance”

★★★★★

written by travelinggroup on 17/05/2014

I have been using InsureMyTrip for a few years now. I rarely have claims but when I did in the past InsureMyTrip was right there to assist. It is nice to know we have an advocate. Alliance was the company I selected for this trip and they were excellent to deal with. I had a small claim and was able to do everything on-line, their communication was timely and they made it easy to complete the claim by uploading the documents. No hesitation in booking with them again. I never travel without insurance and it is good to know we have choices with the top companies in the business.

“Costly, but probably necessary.”

★★★★☆

written by GretaAshworth297 on 02/05/2014

This was a good place to shop and compare for those of us that structure our own travel itinerary. I usually do not insure my trips, but this was a "once in a lifetime" trip where I was spending a lot more than I could risk to lose. So, I needed to buy coverage. Fortunately, I did not make a claim and do not know if that would have been easy or not. I would only insure a centrally booked package next time.

“Need to highlight known "gotchas" from insurance carriers”

★★★☆☆

written by pwHunter128 on 16/03/2014

My wife and I were booked for a cruise for almost eleven (11) months in advance and booked travel insurance through InsureMyTrip.com. I was the one who selected the insurer and policy but I would expect InsureMyTrip.com to provide some important guidelines for making the policy work effectively in the event you have to collect based on a covered condition. They didn't mention anything about making sure the travel dates were adjusted in case you booked flights in advance of the cruise travel date in order to be covered by the policy. Since the cruise was booked more than 331 days in advance of the travel dates no airlines reservations could be made. The date was an estimate for travel but the amount of coverage was set high enough to cover the anticipated expense of the air travel. When we had to cancel due to a covered sudden medical condition the insurer refused to cover the outbound airfare because it was a day before the cruise departure date. They only covered the return segment because it was on the day of the cruise ship's return to port. InsureMyTrip.com could have done better when they must know these conditions exist.

I am the Director of Customer Operations at InsureMyTrip and I'm very sorry to hear of your unsatisfactory experience. I am not able to identify you by your ReviewCentre name, so I can't follow up with you. But, if you'll call our Customer Care Department and ask for Peter (me), Lynne or Mike, one of us will review the details of your claim with the insurance provider to see if anything further can be done. We're happy to work with our customers to help facilitate communication with the insurance provider and advocate for them when we feel a situation needs further review. I hope to hear from you. In the future when purchasing travel insurance, remember to use the date you leave home as the departure date and the date you return home as your return date. Thank you for the feedback.

“Top Notch Company”

★★★★★

written by ff1705 on 15/12/2013

I was very impressed while shopping for a company on Insure my trip web site. I asked several questions through email and they responded immediately. I also called and asked a question. They were very friendly and helpful. It seems like they offer some very good choices. We don't leave until the end of February, but after my questions were all answers I am confident we maid a good choice. They offer much better plans than our cruise ship company offered for a much cheaper price. Thank You Insure my trip. Sincerely Mike Zahm

We had a claim of about $400 for expenses due to a trip delay. About two weeks after we submitted the documentation, we received a check for that amount. The response was prompt, fair, and hassle-free. That's all we can ask for.

“Almost cost me my life....”

★☆☆☆☆

written by bertbrunke on 16/10/2013

I bought a medical policy from IMG through Insuremytrip.com.The third week I was in Thailand with my wife I suffered a series of heart attacks. The fourth attack landed me in the ICU of a Thai hospital. When I was able to call Insuremy trip I was simply told that this was an insurance company issue and was simply blown off.I finally got in touch with the insurance company and was authorized 5 days in the hospital.I was in pretty tough shape and the doctor did a heart cath.He found 4 blockages and said I needed triple bypass now.I had no history of heart problems.I turned the financial aspect of everything over to the hospital. They attempted to work with the insurance company IMG but were stalled throughout the process, delays in answering emails, telephone calls etc.In the end I was discharged from the hospital with 4 blockages and left to fend for myself because IMG would not gaurentee payment for the bypass.Only thing IMG said was pay for the bypass out of pocket and they would review the claim back in the US.Do you have the funds for a major surgery???Next time you travel overseas don't expect these companies to be there for you.I bought believing I was protected only to find the insurance wasn't worth the paper it was written on.Trusting both these companies almost cost me my life......

“trip interruption”

★★★★★

written by conlt37 on 13/09/2013

Our trip was interrupted due to flooding in Central Europe in early June 2013. Your personnel help us get a last minute airline ticket which allowed us to leave the next day. Your personnel was also prompt in covering most of our extra expenses. One suggestion - It would be appreciated if an acknowledgement could be sent when you receive claims paper work. We have used your service on almost all of our 20 trips to Europe and will continue to do so in the future.

Very professional organization; efficiently run. No high pressure salesmanship; just stated the facts and delivered the quotes quickly for me to decide. I would definitely do business with InsureMyTrip.com again! No complaints with the company at all. My doctor had recommended them to me and I'm glad he did.

“Site is OK, Tru Travel product is not”

★★★☆☆

written by on 22/08/2013

Insure my trip does a reasonable job of presenting all the information for different insurance products and allows you to compare their offerings reasonably easily. However, the reviews that they publish for each product are pretty useless because they include reviews from people who say they never had to make a claim, so everything was fine. After reading 20 or more of those, I still didn't have a good idea of the customer satisfaction level from people who actually filed a claim and the stars awarded to a company do not really reflect customer satisfaction. One unsatisfied review from someone who had a bad experience with a product is hidden by lots of raves from people who never had to file a claim. I am an unsatisfied customer of TruTravel but know that my review will get buried by all the drivel.

This review hits the nail on the head. There should be a separate listing detailing the Insurance Companies perform in dealing with claims. Reviews from people who got what they want - cheap insurance - will almost always be positive but will in no way reflect the Insurers performance in dealing with claims fairly, quickly and courteously. I disregard any review that does not contain details of how claims are dealt with.

Good point - I am currently reading through all these reviews thinking there is something suspicious with all these positive reviews from people who have never made a claim...pointless reviews really as a great insurance provider is only known when you need to make a claim. I think on this basis I will steer clear of this company.

“CSA CUSTOM LUXE:excellent choice when husband was@ER...”

★★★★★

written by on 20/08/2013

For your information, i submitted the information for CSA insurance for my cruise / trip cancellation on 9/7/2013 and i received a check today 9/20/2013 for the reimbursement for my trip cancellation. Every thing was done via 2 email attachments, and i got automatic confirmation for both as per their arrival at CSA. It was a complicated set of documents that they requested, but i submitted every single one and VOILA the check arrived today. Highly recommend this company even though i would not want to have to cancel the trip in the near future for such a reason as we had to do for this done.

“Easy to compare and purchase!”

★★★★★

written by on 14/08/2013

I have used insuremytrip.com several times and I have always had a good experience. This website makes it very easy to both compare and purchase travel insurance. When planning a trip, anytime something is easy to shop for and buy, I am very happy since there is usually so much that I need to do. I really like that I was able to pick the features I wanted and show lists of insurances that were more relevant to me. The side-by-side comparison feature is extremely helpful when making that final decision. I really can't think of anything I didn't like. I would definitely recommend others use this service (actually, I already have recommended it to someone who then made a purchase). I would also not hesitate to use it for my next trip.

My wife and I are citizens of the USA, but we are permanent residents of Mexico. We have our 'Residencia Permanente'. We are even plugged into the 'Seguro Popular' health insurance down here. We need USA medical coverage insurance for a July 23 to November 04 visit to the USA. We are both '60-64' years old. {I've seen that age-span on other websites.} Can InsureMyTrip help us?

Have yiu tried emailing IMT? They do reply promptly. Remember they are only a BROKER - not an insurer. The companies they rep are high quality. I like IMT because it's a place to see ALL various options. It won't help you, but they are great when I PHONE them (toll free in US) about a question.

I could only recommend you to ask for a quote on IMT web page and decide upon the result of it. Yet, I have found that sometimes you can find a better price using a local insurance company.

I have used them twice in the past to obtain medical insurance for my family when we traveled to Cancun, Mexico. I found their prices to be very reasonable and they offered a variety of options. We never had to file a claim, so I cannot address that issue. Would definitely use them again. My wife and I have a long term relationship with a young couple in Moscow (we tried to adopt the young woman when she was 12). They are like a daughter and son-in-law to us and we found that we could provide them with medical insurance through InsureMyTrip if they traveled to the US to see us. They were not able to come because our own US Embassy refused them visas to visit.

From the site's Learn/Basics section: Question: HI, We were on a cruise with alot of British people. We told them about insure my trip website and they were really excited about it. I told them I did not know if they could get insurance on insure my trip from the UK. They all did have national health insurnace as a base insurance. Can they use this website? They all are very interested, we want to e-mail they. Several of them were specifically intrested in my kind that I got, Geo blue trekker. Thank You pamT, 05/24/2014 Answer: Yes, people that live outside of the US can still purchase coverage on our website for Medical, Evacuation and Accidental death. Only US residents are eligible for cancellation coverage. If the travelers enter their personal trip details into the quote tool, the website will show them the plans that they are eligible for.

Insure my trip offers Medical Travel Insurance only, not the full range of services offered in the US. You can access their website at and enter your home country to find out what products they offer. They are the aggragator of insurance companies not the actual insurer, this allows you to find all companies that fit your travel needs at one source.

If you purchase you travel insurance in the usa, you will list the countries where you will travel during the period of your insured travel. Europe and the UK are covered if you list them. If, however you are asking about the purchase of travel insurance by a British citizen in the UK, you must email the Insuremytrip company directly and inquire about purchasing from other nations. Good luck, M
