Reading other reviews on this site, I can only assume Halifax and their insurer have got their act together since 2012.
Due to bereavement December 2013), had to cancel holiday one week before departure. Initial contact to start claim was easy and met by a very sympathetic lady. Forms delivered very quickly. Returned, four days later text received to say full cost of holiday to be paid within five days.
Highly recommend Halifax Rewards and full marks to First Assist Insurance Services.
