I paid for damage refund insurance with Axa via Ryanair. I suffered a small amount of damage (not my fault) to a car I hired.
Axa make it impossible for you to make a claim. There is no contact number for Axa on the documents apart from in Belgium and it is unobtainable. There is no contact on their website. They also require you to have an international bank account to pay you back. It's incredible that Axa are happy to suffer this sort of reputational damage.

I was interested to read your experience with AXA concerning damage refund insurance for a hire car. We have recently returned from a holiday in Sardinia where I hired a car. I had arranged the hire prior to leaving the UK and took out excess damage insurance which turned out to be with AXA. When I returned the car to Hertz, the car rental company, they alleged there was a small scratch on the driver's door and charged my credit card for EU 168.
On return to the UK I submitted a claim to AXA and managed to track down a contact telephone number in Redhill, Surrey. After 3 weeks of hearing nothing from AXA I telephoned them only to fobbed off time and time again saying my claim was with the Claim handler and they would settle within 24 hours. Nothing happened. i made a formal complaint to AXA - still nothing.
I have reached the end of my tether so am submitting a claim through the Courts. This firm cannot be allowed to treat their customers in this manner.
