Bastet2015's review of Trip Advisor www.tripadvisor.co.uk

“Liars and corrupt, beware!!! Mislead people.”

I signed up in 2007 and had published many, many reviews. I'd achieved all sorts of ranks, badges and points.

I always left professional, accurate and polite reviews and never used names or obscenities. The reviews which vanished were for restaurants which are still open and have not closed down - not that that matters, because most closed venues remain on Trip Advisor, with visible reviews, with the addition of 'CLOSED' in their name.

Over a year ago, I noticed a few of my reviews had disappeared. Some of them weren't even bad reviews. I reported it to Trip Advisor and they responded that the reviews had never existed and implied I'd simply imagined typing them out. I remembered the venues and reviews. Trip Advisor was THE only website I used to review restaurants and venues, so I didn't get confused with another review site.

I shrugged it off and reposted the reviews.

This year, a one star review for a particularly bad afternoon tea restaurant vanished. Despite being a one star review, I was respectful, professional, didn't swear or use names or anything that constituted a breach of the posting regulations. This review had been replied to by the manager of the restaurant, although his reply was quite unacceptable.

Again, Trip Advisor's support told me the review had never existed and had never been posted. I knew 100% it had. I remembered word for word what I'd said AND what the manager had replied. Trip Advisor were insistent that I was mistaken and that the review had never existed.

It was clear that they were censoring certain reviews, possibly at the request of the restaurant managers. They must have some back alley deal with venues to remove certain exposés in exchange for something? There was no legitimate reason for Trip Advisor to remove my reviews. To then erase all record and to lie and state I was simply imagining posting said reviews is unacceptable.

After 8 years on the site, spending a great deal of time contributing to the community, I've closed my account. I will not be part of a sly, underhand and corrupt review website.

Bonzocat's Response to Bastet2015's Review

Totally agree! Tripadvisor is corrupt. I had a review of Coat Aillis gite holidays removed after 5 weeks with no explanation. New glowing reviews then popped up disagreeing with my honest experiences. I complained about these fake reviews but they remained. Tripadvisor are NOT to be trusted and are allegedly receiving financial incentives to run their corrupt website.

I wouldn't be surprised. It's free to use, so they might get advertising cash and a sly £10 here and there from businesses to remove reviews they don't like.
