Booked flight for following week. The next day, my father passed away. Called Booking Buddy and asked if:
1) I could change the flight destination to attend his funeral
2) If not, could I change the date
3) If not, could I get a partial refund
The representative told me none of the above was possible, and that the carrier (Delta) was called and would not refund or change the flight. He told me that "Federal requirements" prohibited their refunding more than about $30 of a $350 charge.
I called Delta directly and they graciously allowed me to change the flight. There was no such "Federal requirement"

Most airlines will work with their customers when there is a death in the family. There used to be special low fares for such situations.
